AIBU to regret DD’s name?

My DD is 2.5 and I loved her name when I chose it. However, unbeknownst to me, when we chose it we picked THE most popular middle name ever. Every little girl I meet has it! I’ve also met two girls with exactly the same first and second name. I’m starting to really regret the choice of middle name now I know every girl has it. I feel like my DD will grow up to hate it as it’s so common. AIBU? Sometimes I consider changing it before she is aware but then think I’m going mad? I’m 30 weeks pregnant so names are in my mind a lot.

Another middle name Louise here. I went on a school trip abroad when i was 16 and half the girls going had Louise as their middle name!

midnightmisssuki · 13/03/2018 16:17

Nobody uses middle names. Yabu.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 13/03/2018 16:18

Oh OP you probably are BU but it’ll be the hormones. As others have said you chose it for all of the right reasons and must have love do it at the time. Have a Brew and try to plan some nice things to do with DD before the new one arrives Smile

Retired65 · 13/03/2018 16:21

Well, I never use my middle name.

TheImprobableGirl · 13/03/2018 16:22

Ive got an Isabella with the same middle name as your dd - she absolutely loves it now she's 7. there was another with the exact same first name/middle name combo in the hospital when i had her, but haven't met another Bella since! a couple of Izzy's in years above but this is a 600 child school. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that even if a name is wildly popular then it doesn't mean it will be actively popular

curiousitykilledthekitkat · 13/03/2018 16:22

DD middle name is Rose.

We picked it because of DH Nanny.

It never gets used and people don't know unless they ask - which never happens anyway.

lecossaise · 13/03/2018 16:24

I think most people hate or are indifferent to their middle names! Unless they're named after someone, that is. Mine is one of those generic late 80s names (not Louise but it may as well be). I think Rose will probably age better!

HouseworkIsASin10 · 13/03/2018 16:31

I think Rose is a gorgeous first name, it shouldn't be hidden as a middle name.
Reminds me of Rose in Titanic.

(But I don't like Rosie)

AJPTaylor · 13/03/2018 16:33

Really?
born between 1967 and 1974 and a woman more likely than not you have one of 3 middle names
Jane
Ann
Louise
it hasnt had a detrimental effect.

LurkyMcLurcker · 13/03/2018 16:43

Another middle name ‘Louise’ here, I really don’t like it but mainly because my two sisters got ‘Cordelia’ and ‘Gabrielle’.

I defitely feel short changed!

mollied · 13/03/2018 16:53

I hate my middle name and never use it my best friend of 8 years doesn't even know it. My point being it doesn't matter you don't have to use it at all, its only on properly official documents.

KittenBeast · 13/03/2018 17:02

Nobody asks my middle name, pretty pointless having one really, My boys have 2 each, poor sods, but nobody knows what they are! I wouldn't worry

BlackberryandNettle · 13/03/2018 17:09

I was going to ask Rose or May but I see she's a middle name Rose. It's a lovely name though. I wouldn't change it now unless you plan to perhaps use it as a first name for this baby. In which case, perhaps add in a second middle name for your dd1 but keep Rose. Then pick two middle names for this baby as well (one a diminutive/version not your dd1s name??). That would be cute. No need for her at 2 and a half to know she's not had all 3 names from the beginning.

BitchQueen90 · 13/03/2018 17:14

Rose is my middle name! Wasn't as popular when I was at school in the 90s.

SharronNeedles · 13/03/2018 17:40

How many women born between 82-92 have the middle name 'Louise'?
I'd say more than a few! I doubt they all care

callymarch · 13/03/2018 18:02

I have two DD's middle names May and Rose, but born 13/17 years ago so slightly different generation. They weren't common names then. Wouldn't have cared either way, I just liked them.

May was my grandmother's name and my mother's middle name so spans all the gerenations. It's so an anagram of my daughters first name (no prizes for guessing that one)

Confusedbeetle · 13/03/2018 18:13

I hate my middle name so simply dont use it. No one knows it. Never causes a problem. My mother added a new first name in passing and never did anything legal with it. I found out when I was 18 and on emergency tax, but in fact I just kept adding the new name to driving licence, passport, bank accounts. Weirdly not a prob ) am now 67. No one gives a stuff about middle names.

UnRavellingFast · 13/03/2018 21:06

My dd has that middle name too, she's a teenager and I had no idea it was going to take off like that! But what others have said, I always longed for the normal popular names as a youngster and felt in with the in crowd when my normal middle name matched my friends'. However my main name is unusual and I always felt fed up about it and didn't like it and longed to be Lucy or Julie or Katie or Amy or something. Which names I still like btw!

lurkymclurkerson · 13/03/2018 21:57

Another one with the same middle name as your DD - I was at school in the 2000s and there were quite a few of us with it, but no-one minded. I do occasionally use it (I don’t like to have my surname on social media, for example, due to my line of work) and I genuinely really like it. Although I’m sure there was an element of it being the “default” middle name at the time I know that I also have it because it’s my mum’s favourite flower which is nice. I’m sure she won’t mind, OP Smile

TroubledLichen · 13/03/2018 22:04

Child of the late 80s here, have a good group of 7 friends and every single one has Elizabeth as a middle name except for me. I’m the yooonique one even though my middle name has already been mentioned on her as one of the 3 generic middle names for our age group and older!

Rose is beautiful and I wouldn’t overthink it, middle names are never used anyway!

autumncountryrose · 13/03/2018 22:06

I have an Isobel Rose, I didn't even think about the popularity of rose as a middle name, just thought it was lovely!

PuntCuffin · 13/03/2018 22:09

Is her first name Amelia? I have met a number of Amelia Roses over the last 5 years or so.

I am another middle name Louise. I don't like it, it's a bit bland, but inoffensive at least.

altiara · 13/03/2018 22:09

YABU - Rose is beautiful!

I was always jealous that my middle name wasn’t Jane or Louise. I had a very uncommon middle name to my horror!! Grin

AjasLipstick · 13/03/2018 22:16

My DD is Rose as her first name. I knew it was a popular middle name and chose it as a first because that's quite rare.

My sister's DD has it as her middle name.

All her friends call her Rosie which irritates me.....all I can hear is whatshername from Corrie saying "Our Rooooosie"

scrivette · 13/03/2018 22:29

DD has Rose as her middle name. Initially I didn't want it as at least 2 close family members have it as a middle name, but it goes very well with her extremely rare first name.

I try to think of it as 'classic' rather than 'popular' now!
