AIBU to regret DD’s name?

My DD is 2.5 and I loved her name when I chose it. However, unbeknownst to me, when we chose it we picked THE most popular middle name ever. Every little girl I meet has it! I’ve also met two girls with exactly the same first and second name. I’m starting to really regret the choice of middle name now I know every girl has it. I feel like my DD will grow up to hate it as it’s so common. AIBU? Sometimes I consider changing it before she is aware but then think I’m going mad? I’m 30 weeks pregnant so names are in my mind a lot.

You're being unreasonable and way too hyperfocused on her middle name. The people I've known who hated their names the most (myself included) were all people with very unusual names.

No one ever knows or uses middle names

whampiece · 13/03/2018 15:16

My son full name appears on the computer system they use at school so all his class mates and parents see his middle name.

What kind of school is your son at where parents and pupils have access to the computer system Confused

TabbyTigger · 13/03/2018 15:16

No-one cares about middle names anyway! And in my experience kids always think it’s really cool when they have the same name, it’s a good bonding point.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/03/2018 15:17

I have a middle-name-Rose too OP and tbh it's never been an issue at all. Relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy

EnglishRose13 · 13/03/2018 15:18

I'm of the era where everyone has the middle name Louise. And if your middle name isn't Louise, it's Jane. It honestly doesn't bother my that I share the same middle name with loads of my friends. I doubt she will care.

Jengnr · 13/03/2018 15:18

My daughter has Rose as a middle name too. Bit annoying that everyone else in the world also picked it because I named her after Axl so would have done it anyway. Grin

On the plus side it's a beautiful name so don't sweat it.

InspMorse · 13/03/2018 15:19

Is it Ellie-Mai ? Grin Drop the Mai/May bit if it is!

FifiVoldemortsChavvyCousin · 13/03/2018 15:19

YABU

It’s not important at all.

boxyfingo · 13/03/2018 15:20

Sorry I didn't read properly and just seen that it's the middle name you are worried about, so my suggestion isn't helpful! I personally wouldn't worry about it as long as you are happy with the first name. I think middle names come in trends just as much as first names - in my generation there are an awful lot of people with Louise or Jane as their middle name.

InspMorse · 13/03/2018 15:20

X post. Rose is ok. Just call her by her first name.

InspMorse · 13/03/2018 15:21

BTW, nearly everyone I know (1970s girls) have Louise, Claire or Jane as their middle name.

Pinkvoid · 13/03/2018 15:22

Nobody uses or cares about middle names so I really wouldn’t worry.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 13/03/2018 15:23

Middle name? Have you got nothing better to worry about??

HouseworkIsASin10 · 13/03/2018 15:24

Middle names are pointless, unless you want to honour somebody.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 13/03/2018 15:25

The only time I can remember in the last 10 years being asked for my middle names was when I had to call the police because we'd lost a service user and there was quite a lot of blood left behind when we entered their flat.

My son's only get used when he's doing something really bad.

I'd been with Dh for a about six years before I learnt what his was, he really doesn't like them.

We all have them because we have a lot of "family" names and I'd either have to loads of children or just give the limited amount I'm willing to have lots of names.

reluctantbrit · 13/03/2018 15:25

Personally I find middle names useless. OK, to honor a relative or good friend maybe but just because everybody has one?

I have one and don't use it at all. Every now and then I have to double check the spelling to make sure I put it down correctly. I got it because in my generation it was a done thing when being baptised and because I have a fairly unusual first name but I still can't see a point apart that it waste ink.

DD, 10 now) doesn't have one at all, I couldn't find one good reason to give her one.

Kidssendingmenuts · 13/03/2018 15:25

I have an Isabelle rose and I never use her middle name. Seems everyone is called Isabelle but I also never call her that she is either sissy which even her nursery call her or pin for princess. Hardly ever call her Isabelle!

gussyfinknottle · 13/03/2018 15:25

Our dd has a lovely name. Which turns out to be really popular. I genuinely didn't know. Except in her current year at school where the alternative I was going to go for is owned by two other girls. And dd is unique.

ManicPixieDream · 13/03/2018 15:25

Claire Louise here, so common with people my age but no big deal.

I'm gutted I gave my DS2 a really popular name as he's one of so many at his hobby. I still like the name though so never mind. He still likes it. DS1 has an apparently popular name that year but hardly knows any his age.

Mari50 · 13/03/2018 15:29

My dd’s middle name is really common- it was picked in hospital as I listened to an album of the same name. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Or dd. Which is a relief because she complains a lot about her first name. Which is apparently rubbish.

k2p2k2tog · 13/03/2018 15:32

My 12 year old's middle name is May. It's not double barrelled with her first name. We chose May because we wanted a family name and the other options were Edna and Agnes.... Anyway. Most people don't know her middle name. She doesn't use it, on everything at school she's Firstname Lastname not Firstname Middle Middle Lastname.

Doesn't

ivehadtonamechangeforthis · 13/03/2018 15:34

Don't lose perspective it's a middle name, it will rarely be mentioned and never be used unless filling in forms :)

rosieposies · 13/03/2018 15:37

My middle name is Rose @readysetcake and I love it 🌹
