Just found out that someone has stolen one of the portable DVD players from the children’s ward at our local hospital.
What sort of a scumbag do you have to be to do that?! 😡

Possibly someone on drugs. Nothing is off limits when you need a fix...
Agree though, this is spectacularly shitty.

YANBU. Happens at my local children's hospital all the time. I can't even imagine what kind of person could do this.

I’ve just given birth and the midwives on ward were staying people steal everything and anything. Literally. People don’t deserve free healthcare, they deserve to rot. The behaviour of the general public is abysmal. I do actually think people caught fightning, stealing, beating up staff on site, damaging or injuring ambulances/ staff should be disqualified from the NHS.

I don’t see any other way to safeguard the service and instill some standards in people.

Probably the same species of scumbag who comes into the charity shop where I volunteer wearing manky old clothes, chooses things off the rails, changes in the fitting room and then walks out with our stock and leaves their manky old stuff on the rails.

I took dd to an outpatients appointment and there was a sign there saying "please dont take the toys home we lost 28 in a week"

We had an extended period in hospital with my DS a year ago. He was in a coma and he doctors said studies show that hearing their favourite stories/songs etc can help and we were allowed to bring his iPad in. He was in the intensive care ward. Only 14 beds, one day I had nipped down to see my sister as only 2 people were allowed to see him for immunity reasons. I placed the iPad at the bottom of his bed and popped the gruffalo on. By the time I got back It was stolen. Could only have been one of the people on the ward hat see me leave! There was huge uproar and it turned up in the bin beside reception 4 days later.

To be honest I only blamed myself you can't trust anyone these days, it's a shame but it is true.

Sadly it doesn't surprise me. Dd had her smartphone nicked when she went for a shower in hospital, the morning after a difficult birth.
Same sort of people who nick charity-donation boxes. You'd like to think they were all desperate for whatever reason, but somehow I doubt it. Some people are just utterly amoral.

The hospital my uncle works in had a delivery of the Dyson fans, about 30 of them. Every single one went within in a month

We have sonicaids, sphygonometers, thermometers, fans, pillows and towels pinched on a daily basis (London maternity unit). All our medical stuff has to be chained to the wall. One of my colleagues had her bag and clothes stolen. Some people think that because it belongs to the NHS that it is "theirs" and they can take it. Other people are just desperate. It's a shame.

I've seen a few news stories locally where families who have children with severe disabilities have their special equipment stolen, or their specially adapted car stolen.

It's of no use to anyone except that person, it's expensive but doesn't have monetary value for the thief because they can't sell it or use it. Their sole motivation must be to make life difficult for other people. My mind can't comprehend how anyone could be so bitter.

Let's face it, a lot of the people using the NHS are people with serious issues. Not terribly surprising that some of them are desperate/kleptomaniacs/junkies in need of a fix, still a shame though.

I saw a post on FB that a sat nav was stolen from an ambulance. The post highlighted that the software was specialist and the sat nav could only work in the ambulance.....

Is it one of those little ones with the screens attached? Looks a bit like a laptop?

If so, and you can give me a couple of hours then I will check in my caravan and send the hospital the one we have? We don't use it anymore.

Some people are so immensely stupid and self-centred and have such poor impulse control and so little in the way of morals that they will steal things on the off chance that they can sell them or otherwise make use of them. Years ago some volunteers planted dozens of daffodils in our local park. Within weeks scumbags were there digging them up. When remonstrated with, they didn't seem to grasp that they were doing anything wrong.

Is this on the same continuum as people who throw rocks at fire engines and ambulances answering 999 calls?

I went to our local mat unit once responding to two women repeatedly stealing G&A cannisters. They'd been there three or four times!
Druggies stealing charity boxes is another usual one.

In our maternity unit there are locked cabinets beside the beds where we keep some medicines. If those are in your hospitals then ask the midwife/nurse to lock your valuables away whilst you shower if you have no visitors. Takes 2 seconds but gives you peace of mind.

I suspect that it's actually stupidity - they look at it, assume it's worth something and only later discover it isn't (and dump it). Which is no better, but I expect they aren't actively seeking to make life hard for a disabled person, they just don't care.

Just dreadful, but sadly I'm not surprised. My granddad died in the 90's. He collapsed whilst out and was dead on arrival at hospital. He was the type of man who would never dream of going out without money in his wallet, even going so far as to keep a £5 note hidden under the mat in the car in case of emergency, yet when my mum and brother picked up his property from the hospital the next day his wallet had no cash in it at all. . My brother queried it at the time and records showed that when he arrived at the hospital he had no money on him.. Mum was too upset to take things further, but as he collapsed whilst playing bowls with friends it seems unlikely that anyone who was with him at the time would have had the opportunity to go through his possessions. The money almost certainly disappeared sometime between him being put in the ambulance and having his property recorded in the Accident and Emergency Department, so we can only assume that one of the so called health care professionals earned themselves a few extra pounds that day. The world stinks sometimes.

I rushed into a room to help as I arrived on shift at birth centre, chucking my bag behind a chair. The dad stole my purse and withdrew money on my debit card. Classy.

Something was stolen from our hospital, that the community had been raising money for. It's going to take a while to be replaced. Those People who did it are dicks.

The same type of people who report that their NHS-supplied reclining chair "has been stolen". When they get a replacement, "the new one has been stolen too". They are the shit of the planet.

I volunteer in a charity shop. It's been broken into several times. No money apart from a collecting tin with a couple of quid in it is left in the shop. The damage causes inconvenience and is expensive to repair. Nothing has been taken except the collection tin. Desperate? Stupid?

Our local hospice had their van stolen recently, bought with donations, staffed by volunteers, used for house clearances for their charity shops, hospice logo all over it. Utter utter scum. That's more money to be raised to cover increased insurance premium that could have been spent on helping families at the most difficult time.

A community local to me fundraised for a defibrillator. A few months later it was smashed to bits.
