Just found out that someone has stolen one of the portable DVD players from the children’s ward at our local hospital.
What sort of a scumbag do you have to be to do that?! 😡

LimonViola if you must know the reason my step brothers baby was born early was due to incompetence by a nurse who put my step sil's worries about having pain and possible contractions dowm to being a first time mum, not to mention that they tried for 11 plus years and conceived him thu ivf, in no way was muly sil at blame. And as for these junkies, they most definitely were, you can spot a junkie a mile away. They had the typical looks of junkies, scabs all over them, unaturally skinny, constantly leaving there prem baby to fuck off some where, sometimes coming back high off what ever they were taking. I womt apologise for saying they look like junkies becaise they were, and its sad the amount of babies being born prem to scum like them who dont give a fuck about anythin execept their next hit. People like them are robbing scum who dont deserve to have babies, they bring these babies into the world with addictions because they got pregnant addicted, they shouldnt be allowed children, they should be sterilised permanently to stop bringing unwanted babies into the world who they will probably give up for adoption, if the baby is lucky, or just completely neglect. Im sorry but you need to open your eyes, there is scum in the world and people like them, junkies, addicts what ever ypu want to call them, or one of them.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/03/2018 06:42

Someone stole my gran jewellery when she was DYING of cancer

All I can assume as that the NHS worker is cleaner was desperate , and felt undervalued ? and let it slide by

But still Sad

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/03/2018 06:45

I think it’s very Sad and telling about the preemie ward . Sadly a lot of babies with drug and foetal alcohol abuse are born pre term

Scum (sorry that’s a horrible word but ...) have babies too!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/03/2018 06:49

expatinscotland

Ugh . Good technique but the pain of having to handle that . I saw similar in the fridge at GOSH .

It goes to show that hospitals are the place where all humanity converges

Aeroflotgirl · 14/03/2018 07:32

I am shocked and sickened to read your experiences, expat, that is disgusting, I think that message on the food box got the thief thinking, so did not try to open the box. Sorry scum of the earth is what they are, just disgusting vile individuals, whatever motives they gave. Some might not have drug problems, but just be opportunists wanting to make a fast buck, rather like looters.

fuzzywuzzy · 14/03/2018 07:44

My friend’s a midwife and her hospital uniform includes crocs. Each midwife wears a pair into the ward, each pair is odd colours to prevent them being stolen.

LimonViola · 14/03/2018 07:51

No missmorleyme, I don't want or need to know. My point was that it's horrible to speculate on the causes of another family's baby's premature birth, whatever views you hold on the child's parents.

SaltySeaBird · 14/03/2018 08:01

I had something stolen recently that had some sentimental value and was engraved with something personal to me. I don’t know why people do it. I just don’t understand how some people are missing a moral compass. Some of these here are shocking.

easypeasylife · 14/03/2018 08:04

Ds had a congenital abnormality and was in hospital after birth for 8 weeks before having major surgery. I got friendly with the other mums (4 of us in the bay) and felt a real bond with them as we had been through a lot together with our babies.

I had a sling/wrap that I used daily and had compliments on it from other mums. On the morning of ds's op I had to leave the bay with him for 5 mins to get him weighed. I had thrown the wrap over the end of his cot and when I returned it had gone. All the mum's were there and hadn't seen it apparently so I assumed that a nurse had taken it by mistake. When I asked she just said 'someone has made love to it, happens all the time in here. If you want to keep something in here it needs to be chained to the wall'. It was so hard knowing that one of the mums had taken it, I felt we were friends and I really trusted them.

LimonViola · 14/03/2018 08:20

'someone has made love to it, happens all the time in here.'

Is that a regional phrase?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 14/03/2018 08:50

I'm hoping that was meant to be "made off with it"!

easypeasylife · 14/03/2018 10:35

Actually she did say 'made love to it' which I found odd, definitely not a regional phrase either! It took it to mean that someone took a fancy to it so nicked it.

HesterShaw · 14/03/2018 10:45

My dad lived in hospital when he had end stage dementia. His stuff used to go missing all the time including clothes, dressing gown, pyjamas. Every time it went out to the laundry in fact. My mum used to leave notes in big capital letters everywhere saying she was doing his laundry at home, and still they'd scoop it all up and some would go missing Angry

StylishMummy · 14/03/2018 11:18

@LimonViola you maybe haven't spent time in a NICU but it's not usually speculation, you hear conversations as to why each child is premature. Drugs & alcohol feature prominently everyday

SleepyBadger · 14/03/2018 11:26

My wedding and engagement rings were stolen whilst I was in hospital with my daughter. Some people are just scum. Also had our baby boys expensive pram stolen from the boot of our car. Thieves don’t think about the person they are stealing from as real person I don’t think. Stealing from vulnerable people happens all the time unfortunately 😢 it makes me so mad.

plominoagain · 14/03/2018 11:43

I’m not surprised . I know of two cardiac arrests in the street where the first on scene has been a cycle paramedic ( central London ) , and having been on their knees saving someone from dying , have found their bike and equipment stolen . One of the thieves was caught in the act , chased and ‘detained ‘ by passers by . He claimed he ‘didn’t know who it belonged to’ ..... a) it’s not relevant it’s not his in any case and b) the bike and equipment is plastered in LAS symbols and yellow and green . It couldn’t be more obvious .

Teacher22 · 14/03/2018 17:39

How depressing to read this thread. I have no sympathy for people who stoop to this level of awfulness. There's no excuse.

woosey35 · 14/03/2018 17:47

My daughter had a two week admission to a London hospital. She was allowed to use the hospital iPads however they all had to be chained and padlocked to the beds when in use. I was shocked. The staff said they are taken continuously if not padlocked down!! It’s diagusting!! That’s so so low to take an iPad off a ward for desperately ill children!!

AnnabelC · 14/03/2018 18:07

Recently I left my handbag in a changing room at a swimming pool and it was handed in. Nothing missing. On the other hand my Mum was dying in hospital and I had bought a lovely pen and new nightie to try and make her feel a little better. Because a lot of the time she was drugged with pain killers. They were stolen.

crunchymint · 14/03/2018 18:12

The people I know who would do this kind of thing, also live very unhealthy lifestyles, so much more likely I suspect to find themselves in hospitals or have friends in hospital. I also remember the scene in trainspotting where they targeted a hospital and stole things to fund their drug habit. Fairly easy pickings sadly.

Ericaequites · 14/03/2018 18:13

If you have a relative in a care home, Mark all of their clothing as you would for a young child. People with nice things have them borrowed for other patients, or they just go missing. I did this for my mum with dementia. Only a few pairs of panties went missing. My sister and I can deal, as Mum has become in continent.

Abbylee · 14/03/2018 18:16

Not the same but similar. Mils hired painters who robbed them of money and jewelry. They would not report theft bc the painters knew where they lived and would return to harm them physically.

Regarding swiping toys, ds would not let a funny looking mechanical squirrel go after gyn/ob appt. Finally gave in and let him keep it as the appt was fairly traumatic. He never played with it again and I never went back. Felt guilty over that for many years. Finally gave to charity.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2018 18:16

When I worked in nhs podiatry the staff would buy an extra long shoe horn for their clinics if they went to ikea and be re-imbursed from petty cash. People would try to take them saying “but I want it”.

They cost about a £1.

manicmij · 14/03/2018 18:24

As my Mother used to say "some folk will steal the breath out of your mouth". Just cannot be up to all that some folk will do. Horrible, horrible people.

fennel1900 · 14/03/2018 18:34

My sister had a bad asthma attack a few years ago on an evening out. Someone stole her purse while they were waiting for the ambulance.
