To think being blonde doesn’t automatically mean you’re attractive?

Holdtightwhenyoutiptoe · 10/03/2018 13:19

I see it on here a lot. Because someone is blonde they are automatically gorgeous.

I’m not saying any other colour is better. I’m saying that certain hair colours suit different people.

I look better as a brunette, I wasn’t as attractive when I was blonde. I’m sure others have experienced this the other way around too.

I’m just getting quite tired of the whole everything needs to be light in order for anyone to be considered pretty.

All hair colour is stereotyped though. As a redhead I'm often treated as something that men should 'experience at least once' 😷 bad tempered, feisty etc etc All utter shite obviously

Bugjune · 10/03/2018 16:27

Tall leggy blondes were seen as the epitome of female beauty for decades. The tide is turning now and it all seems to be about exotic looking, petite brunettes.

Snowyhere2018 · 10/03/2018 16:29

Well, OP, I'll have you know I am blonde and totally gorgeous so you are wrong. Grin

KittenBeast · 10/03/2018 16:29

Well I just skipped to the last page in the thread to see that giant tatrum with lots of caps lock, anyway, I get what OP is saying, I've seen many threads where blonde=gorgeous, and like a PP said, it's usually about a husbands new colleague. I don't think I've ever seen one where she is 'gorgeous, slim, red-haired/brunette/rainbow coloured'

blastomama · 10/03/2018 16:31

By who? That statement doesn't make sense since thats never been universal.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 16:32

No you haven't. You may have seen some where people say someone is blonde AND gorgeous, but not that someone is gorgeous simply because they are blonde.

Jaygee61 · 10/03/2018 16:32

There’s a saying that “blondes have more fun” though.......

MsHarry · 10/03/2018 16:34

Brown eyes and blonde hair DOES look odd to me IN MY
You are odd!
Personally, I think that's a lovely combination. As is red hair a and brown eyes or green eyes or blue eyes or black skin with brown eyes or green eyes or blonde hair with blue eyes, grey eyes or green eyes! BEAUTY IS IN ALL VARIANTS!

blastomama · 10/03/2018 16:35

Yes. But that still doesn't make OP's point make any sense.

IAmLucy · 10/03/2018 16:35

All of the popular 'attractive' celebrities right now are brunette (Michelle Keegan etc) anyway.

The analogy about Megan Fox and Katie Hopkins on a night out is a good one. If someone is attractive they aren't suddenly going to be the less attractive one because Quasimodo comes along wearing a long blonde wig. It's silly to think that.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 16:35

I’ve seen this other places but I think it’s bullshit. I look better with my natural jet black hair and prefer it on men.

MsHarry · 10/03/2018 16:36

My DD of 17 is blonde but has dyed her hair brunette. she is stunning both ways but apparently brunette is the thing now.

Jaygee61 · 10/03/2018 16:39

squoosh had to unfortunately I was married to DH at the time, still am, and he was way too young for me anyway Grin

Didoofcarthage · 10/03/2018 16:40

I’d echo Twinkly little laugh.
When I was young, blonde, and pretty = male overload
When older, fat and with hair now almost mousey = not much attention
Older still, and fat BUT hair now silvery blonde = more male attention.
Duh! Enjoy!

Jaygee61 · 10/03/2018 16:43

I am 56 and was a natural brunette, (blue eyes fair ski) before I started going grey on top and in front. I’ve tried going blonde but it doesn’t suit me, doesn’t go with my skin tone. So I’m still medium brunette with subtle highlights.

KittenBeast · 10/03/2018 16:44

blastomama - I don't think I've ever seen one where she is 'gorgeous, slim, red-haired/brunette/rainbow coloured'

Which would imply that quite a lot of women believe that being blonde is a thing that adds to someone's overall attractiveness. Women make a point of it, they don't (usually) if the woman is not blonde. Do you see what I'm saying?

Bugjune · 10/03/2018 16:44

By who? That statement doesn't make sense since thats never been universal.

Media, VS models, porn stars, trophy wives, trophy mistresses etc

Nothing is universal but in general terms the tall leggy blonde trope was a thing for decades whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. As I was saying, the tide has turned and in general, petite 'Latina' looking brunettes seem to be having their day in the sun.

It's not really that deep.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 16:47

It was a thing for some people, it was not the epitome as you stated. It's not about whether I acknowledge it, its that it simply isn't true in the way you state.

Holdtightwhenyoutiptoe · 10/03/2018 16:51

Well, OP, I'll have you know I am blonde and totally gorgeous so you are wrong.

But you clearly can’t read though?

It really isn't that deep you know. I'm writing on a discussion forum not a dissertation. You got the gist of my point, that's the main thing.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 16:53

I got the gist, I think you were wrong. And also ever so slightly insulting.

squoosh · 10/03/2018 16:54

Rod Stewart has just phoned to say he will resist any attempts to demote the Leggy Blonde.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 16:54

I have.

I'm sure some people do think it adds to their attractiveness. None of them think that being blonde turns an ugly person into a gorgeous one.

VladmirsPoutine · 10/03/2018 16:54

Of course it's a thing. I largely agree with you @Bugjune, but not so much the blondeness aspect, but that the standards of European beauty being held up as the absolute epitome of beauty universally. But I realise that's not what this thread is about.

Bugjune · 10/03/2018 16:54

Oh do fuck off dear before I give you something to be genuinely insulted by.
