Waitress bringing the bill

I took my DM out for a meal last night for Mother’s Day. We went to a small local Italian restaurant (not a chain).

Instead of dessert my DM said that she would have a glass of wine. The wine was brought together with the bill. I’m a complete conflict avoider so didn’t say anything l. My DM felt rushed and left half of the wine.

The restaurant was busy but we’d only been there an hour. AIBU to think this is really bad customer service?

I like to order the bill at the same time as coffee. We can linger as long as we fancy over the drinks, and leave as soon as we're done. Fuss over nothing, to be honest.

Sounds like you live near Paddington St. W1, there is an Italian there I would never return to.

Waiter refused to fetch mayonnaise, just said they didn't have any, someone else fetched it. We were presented with the bill, not offered any desert or coffee.The meal was nothing special anyway so we were happy to leave and not leave a tip.

Grubby net curtains in the windows should have been a warning of what was to come. However, what they didn't realise is that at the time I wrote reviews, and they were not happy when theirs appeared.

That's what I do. I wasn't aware I was committing some terrible faux pas, or inciting the staff into rudeness, or indeed indicating I didn't want to linger. I thought I was just being helpful and saving the staff an extra trip, while making my meal more enjoyable, as I don't need to mess about getting the bill.

Why didn’t you just ignore the bill?

We usually order coffees and ask for the bill at the same time. On the odd occasion when when we have asked for the bill and it still hasn't materialised 30 mins later,, us getting up and putting our coats on soon changes things.
