not AIBU but posting for traffic

I've fallen over about half an hour ago and heard my ankle crunch, can't put weight on it and in a lot of pain, taken paracetamol and got it raised but really am in unbelievable pain and think I need to go to A&E, my DP says i've just fallen over and i'm being silly but i'm not so He's gone to work.

I can't get a taxi and have no family here to call to drive me so how do I get to A&E? If I ring 111 can they arrange transport? The hospital is only a 2 minute drive from me but I can't walk Confused what is the best thing to do?
Sorry for asking here but my DP is useless and my family are all away

People always wonder how they will get to hospital and debate calling 999. No one ever thinks about how they will get home again

ShmooBooMoo · 09/03/2018 17:36

Also, Carryondoctor, a kind poster offered to Paypal a fiver. I'm pretty sure OP never asked anyone for money.

TeddyIsaHe · 09/03/2018 17:37

Love the poster who has X-ray vision and knows it’s just a sprain 😂😂

Looks bloody sore op! Glad you’re getting it sorted, hope it’s not too serious.

user1467718508 · 09/03/2018 17:38

Wishing you well @spicerack

Glad you're being looked after now _

If you need help getting home PM me - I'd happily book you an Uber

xx

blastomama · 09/03/2018 17:39

Blastomama - because whilst I am sure the OP is genuine, lots of people aren't. And if they all post on here looking for PayPal donations.... you can see the problem then, no

No, because I am well aware they may not be genuine when I offered, and I don't care. It's my choice to offer, nobody asked, and it was unlikely to be taken up. I don't see your problem.

Quatia · 09/03/2018 17:40

Carryondoctor OP uploaded a photo of her very swollen ankle (in case you missed it).
I believe op is genuine and that’s her pic. But pics on the internet don’t prove anything, anyone can grab them off Facebook, google etc

ShmooBooMoo · 09/03/2018 17:43

Like you, Blastomama, I prefer to believe people are genuine (clearly OP is!) and offer help if I can. I might be naive but I prefer to be thought naive than worry about someone who may need help that I might be able to give. It's clear the OP wasn't fishing for cash and I think your offer was really nice.

k2p2k2tog · 09/03/2018 17:46

I have no reason to think OP isn't genuine either.

But if MN gets a reputation for paypal transferring money hither and thither to anyone with a sob story, you won't be able to move for sob stories. There are always loads before Christmas along the lines of "Down to my last 50p and can't afford Christmas presents" and people ALWAYS pile in with offers of cash.

If you want to help people who are in dire straits then donate to a foodbank, Citizens Advice, some homeless charity. Don't send cash to randomers online.

KitKat1985 · 09/03/2018 17:47

I hope you get seen quickly OP. For what it's worth you would be a low priority call for the ambulance service and you probably would have been waiting hours if you had of called.

lololove · 09/03/2018 17:47

my hospital has a volunteer driver service that might be of use if it happens to anyone else - that is obviously if your hospital has such a thing. It once took me to a hospital about 40 miles away one Sunday night for facial stitches (needed a specialist plastic surgeon to do it as it was on the face and the doctors at my hospital wanted to minimise scarring. Anyone who finds themselves in this situation or similar might want to call your hospital and ask about it. Good luck op

Charolais · 09/03/2018 17:48

I broke my ankle once. It was crushed. I fainted and vomited the pain was that bad. The surgeon said there was bits of bones like eggshell all over and he tried to get them all out when he put the screws in. I finally had to get a total ankle replacement. It turned out to be a life changing injury for me.

A few months after the TAR I became very ill with an autoimmune disease, I was talking about it with the AI specialist recently and he suggested it could have been the TAR surgery that triggered it.

MollyHuaCha · 09/03/2018 17:49

Good luck OP.

ChasedByBees · 09/03/2018 17:50

Hope you’re OK OP.

Dontoutmenow · 09/03/2018 17:51

Uber!

BishopstonFaffing · 09/03/2018 17:54

Rtft!

Loonyluna16 · 09/03/2018 17:55

OP that's exactly what my ankle looked like doctor took one look at it and said it's broken. X-rayed and it was all the ligaments I heard the crunch too. I hope it's not too bad and you get some relief soon. 💕 An ambulance was called for me as I was out and about and obviously couldn't drive my car.

pudcat · 09/03/2018 17:55

When my friend broke her ankle the doctor at the surgery told me to ring 999 as she was not to put any pressure on it. She had already got herself in from the garden and consequently was in hospital for weeks because she had made things a lot worse

somersetsoul · 09/03/2018 17:57

I hope the x ray is ok 🏥

Aeroflotgirl · 09/03/2018 17:59

I would call an ambulance in your situation, you have no other means. Also if op can't weight bear, she might have to be stretcherd.

enterthedragon · 09/03/2018 18:01

There is also a risk of Compartment Syndrome with broken or fractured bones which can cause permanent disability.

Supermagicsmile · 09/03/2018 18:02

How are you op? :)

jaynelovesagathachristie · 09/03/2018 18:07

Glad you're on your way. Ambulances priorities. Breaks don't always hurt as others have said. I broke my wrist was convinced just a sprain needed a cast on after a trampoline shut on my arm, I was convinced to go to a n e but got a lift there and bus back with a friend

hurtmyankle · 09/03/2018 18:09

still waiting to hear about my x-ray Smilei'm going to try and do the free uber thing someone suggested to get home again

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/03/2018 18:13

They could save the NHS loads of money by screening them via descriptions and photos on the Internet.

Think how much more money could be saved by just one simple question though.
Can you type?
YES - you’re OK and don’t need treatment
NO - very ill needs immediate treatment

Hope you’re OK, OP and that it’s not broken.
