To as what magazines you read

I haven't really bothered with any magazines for a good few years now as the only ones I can find are celeb nonsense or stuff like take a break. I don't like cosmo or glamour - far too much advertising.

I used to buy Minx and First magazines when they were out, but after First closed, I haven't been able to find one that has anything half intelligent about its content.

For anyone that doesn't remember it, First had news & current affairs, women's worldwide issues (I remember first reading about FGM here), a bit of fashion & beauty, maybe a bit of lifestyle and a TV guide.

So, can I ask what you read?

I'm yet to find a 'women's magazine' that isn't full of vacuous horseshit about being confident in your self while giving mind blowing blow jobs and cooking macaroni cheese on a budget

Best comment. I agree. Women's magazines are just trying to make you feel shit so you will buy stuff.
I don't want to read about make up or clothes as I rarely buy either.

Womankind is brilliant.

No ads, great articles, lots of lovely art. Positive and enjoyable.
Published quarterly. I get it from
Large WH Smith's.

Give Womankind a whirl. It's none of these things and totally about women.

I really like Stylist - they hand it out free at London stations but think you can read it online too - a good mix

My Mum passes me her Primas and I really enjoy those

I occasionally read Psychology magazine but it's a bit samey

You magazine (in the Mail on Sunday) is very good - MIL keeps it for me

Zebrasinpyjamas · 08/03/2018 20:37

It's not female centred but I like 'The Week' too. The first half is current news and the second half other interesting articles eg an arts page, and an obituaries page about lesser known people who had an interesting life.

SilverySurfer · 08/03/2018 20:40

I don't buy any these days apart from The Spectator.

Sparkletastic · 08/03/2018 20:47

Good Housekeeping. It's bloody brilliant.

Only ever read women’s magazines at the hairdresser while my colour is on.

MadTea · 08/03/2018 20:56

I buy Grazia, but i’ve just started reading Focus magazine. It’s a BBC one, mainly on science. Very interesting and readable to someone like me with a goldfish-level attention span.

iMatter · 08/03/2018 21:10

Runners world
Private Eye
The week

There definitely was a magazine called B years ago. I loved it!

I read Smallish (parenting), BBC Good Food, Delicious and Marie Claire, although I’ve just cancelled MC as I don’t like it anymore.

jarviscockatiel · 08/03/2018 21:57

We were given a subscription to Wanderlust, a travel magazine, as a wedding present and enjoy it so much we're going to continue getting it once the subscription ends.

babybythesea · 08/03/2018 22:05

I don't think I'll be much help!
I read the mags that come with membership. National Trust, English Heritage, RNLI and the RSPB.

If I'm in town I buy the Big Issue.

I subscribe to BBC History and, my favourite, BBC Wildlife.

I'm a geek.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 08/03/2018 22:32

Bolshybookworm · 08/03/2018 23:05

Fortean Times Blush I started reading it as an X-files loving youngster.

OwlinaTree · 08/03/2018 23:19

I used to like new woman about 20 years ago! Is that still going?

I read take a break and that's life if I'm on a train or long car journey.

I've got a huge pile of knitting mags called let's knit! still unopened as my DH got me a subscription last Xmas. I've told him to cancel it but they keep coming!! I like the mag but I can't knit quickly enough to keep up with them!

Eliza9917 · 09/03/2018 10:18

I'll have a look for womankind.

Issue #15 of womankind is out now. You might need to ask your newsagent to order it
