What kind of person jumps off a cliff with two children? **MNHQ warning: upsetting content**

I've been really shaken by that story about the woman stabbed at home, and the father found at the bottom of the cliff with 2 dead children, 10 and 7.

Their home is about 400 yards away from me. I also have 2 DS's, aged 8 and 10. It's just made me sick to the core. Police and forensic officers all over this lovely house, in a really nice area - and for what? Why would someone do that? Have your own problems, but why take the children?

Just reeling at the moment, am going to hug my kids extra tight tonight. This one's just so very close to home.

A very very unwell person

AllertonRoad · 06/03/2018 17:09

Someone who desperately unwell.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 06/03/2018 17:09

Link?

Cornettoninja · 06/03/2018 17:11

Someone who is incredibly unwell.

Hard as it is to acknowledge sometimes everyone in these scenarios is a victim in some way.

BarryTheKestrel · 06/03/2018 17:11

Something similar happened near me a few years ago, but it was the mother and children. Turns out the mother had severe unmedicated schizophrenia and was suffering a serious dillusion that her and the kids where in terrible danger, so she killed them and herself.

I can only assume anyone who would do anything like that is severely unwell.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 06/03/2018 17:11

I used to worryy exh would do this to my ds's. Beyond comprehension. Poor bairns. Flowers

A very mentally ill person.

InSisu · 06/03/2018 17:14

How heartbreaking 😔

GummyGoddess · 06/03/2018 17:14

It looks like he killed his wife and then took the children with him from that link.

Gilead · 06/03/2018 17:14

As others have said, someone who is so ill they cannot comprehend reason.

MorningsEleven · 06/03/2018 17:15

Someone desperate.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 06/03/2018 17:15

Had he driven off the cliff or jumped? The news report says there was a car found near the bodies. It's absolutely awful - I can't help but feel that poor mother was better off dead than knowing he'd done that to her children.

It's very reminiscent of the Cavan murders. That guy must have read about that - it was in all the newspapers. I wonder what he thought, when we were all so horrified?

SoupyNorman · 06/03/2018 17:16

Would you all say the same thing about Alan Hawe, who stabbed his wife and three sons to death before hanging himself? That he was ill? A victim?

Can’t understand the sympathy for these murderers.

Sandsnake · 06/03/2018 17:16

What a horrible shock for you to live so nearby to something so totally horrible.Flowers

The individual may have been unwell. Or it may have been something else. I don’t think it’s helpful to presume anything at this point. I remember the man who murdered his family a couple of summers ago in Ireland - there was a lot of sympathy for him and his purported MH issues but then it later transpired that he had been terrorising his family behind closed doors for years and the murders were a culmination of this.

Whatever happened, it’s desperately, desperately sad.

bellabelly · 06/03/2018 17:18

Just heard this story on the radio - it's absolutely horrible. Poor woman and poor children. If he was mentally ill, he should have been seeking help.

This scenario of the husband murdering the wife and then the children, before committing suicide themselves, happens far too frequently.

DalekDalekDalek · 06/03/2018 17:18

A person who is desperately mentally ill and genuinely believes that they are doing the best thing for their children by "ending their pain". I'm sure no one in their right mind would do this but unfortunately not everyone is in their right mind.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/03/2018 17:19

I do get and understand that his mind must have been in an absolute turmoil. However to a certain extent he did have a choice and chose to take his own life. Those poor innocent little ones and their mother did not have that choice.

thanksjaneshusbandatcaresouth · 06/03/2018 17:19

A selfish bastard.

FlaviaAlbia · 06/03/2018 17:20

Family annihilators. I'll save my pity for the women and children they murder..

noeffingidea · 06/03/2018 17:20

He might have been unwell or desperate. Or he might have been a violent control freak. We don't know yet and it's pointless to speculate. No doubt an inquest will be held.

RebelRogue · 06/03/2018 17:20

Isn't it weird how most women that do such things, despite their mental state, manage to somehow NOT kill their partner/husband.

Upsidedownandinsideout · 06/03/2018 17:21

Actually people on here tend to talk about mental illness and depression - but one of the frequent precursors for family annihilators is domestic violence, and often the woman trying to leave. These men (apparently 95% men) may seem lovely but often behind closed doors there has been ongoing violence and/or control, and this is an extension of that.

We know someone who killed his family. All the 'he was a victim too' bullshit drives me crazy.

Helmetbymidnight · 06/03/2018 17:21

I don't think desperately unwell at all.
Murderous cunt. The worst kind of man (it's 99.5% men)

Soon it'll come out what a nice man he was to his neighbours but that privately he was violent and she was trying to get away.

GayAllen · 06/03/2018 17:22

An absolute arsehole.
