What did your grandparents do work wise?

GF 1 civil servant (fairly high up)

My maternal grandmother was also a spaewife, born in 1890, she would assist in chilbirth, dress the dead and scry for money. She was a witch.

GM1 nurse

I'm NC with the other side but
GF2 scrap metal merchant as far as I'm aware
GM2 no idea

Gm 2 sahm to six children
Gd 2 owner/manager of haulage firm

One set of grandparents worked in cotton mills first then GF joined the army, went to war and finished his 22yrs as a WO1, then worked in a factory, GM left the cotton mills behind and worked in a munitions factory and then became a SAHM.

Other set of grandparents, GF was in the merchant navy and then became a lorry driver, GM was a factory worker and then SAHM

GF 1 not sure before ww2, was RAMC, shot on June 6th 1944 D-day landings, died 13th June 1944,buried near Caen.

GF 2 merchant navy.

GM 1 worked in a greengrocer after the war.

GM 2 housewife.

All born between 1902 and 1914

Paternal grandmother - Worked in the mills until marriage, then mental health problems (possibly bipolar today) meant she was in and out of asylums for many years, DF brought up by extended family.
Paternal Grandfather - Cable Jointer working on pylons. Exempt from war as needed at home to keep the electricity supply going.

Maternal grandmother - died of rheumatic carditis age 27 leaving 2 children age 4 (DM) and 7
Maternal grandfather - worked with cocoa at Terry's chocolate factory in York, then sent to war in Burma before returning, remarrying and opening a café in Blackpool.

Gf1 - painter and decorator, which he hated. Then worked in a factory which he preferred.
Gm1 - sahm until her fifties when she worked pt in a shop.
Gf2 - Vicar
Gm2 - nurse. As well as being Mrs vicar which was considered a full time role itself.

On my mum's side, she worked as a cleaner and he was a miner.

On my Dad's side, he sold furniture and she was a Doctors secretary.

Maternal Grandparents: Nurse & Russian Teacher.

GF 1 and GM 1 - ran a toy and bike shop

GF 2 - electrical engineer in telephone system; and GM2 didn't work, to my knowledge.
