What an interesting thread.

My maternal GF did a bit of everything in his time. His mother had a tobacconist's shop and he worked there, but on his marriage certificate he described himself as a fishmonger. Later he had another shop - papers, sweets and tobacco - then finally he had a garage and ran a bus route. A real jack-of-all-trades (he also served in WW1).
Dgm, his wife, had been a theatre usherette before she married him.

Paternal GF - a carter, ie he drove a cart (with a horse). Not sure about paternal gm but I think she was in domestic service pre-marriage.

I didn’t know any of my grandparents, they'd all died before I came along.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/03/2018 19:22

Paternal GPs were a metal worker and an admin lady. Maternal GPs were a draughtsman and a cleaner/cook in a pub.

Both my GMs were SAHPs in fact I think going back a generation to my GGMs they were SAHPs too.

My grandad was a ship's captain and my nan worked in a factory and then later in a canteen - everyone who knew her then still rave about her custard slices and jam tarts. I don't know what my dad's parents did as I never knew them.

Tisfortired · 04/03/2018 22:16

This is such an interesting thread!

Maternal Grandad is and always has been a pub/cabaret singer. He was in a local band in the 60s when he met my Nanna and has carried on singing since, with some telly jobs here are there.

Maternal grandma was an accountant.

My paternal Grandad made garden gnomes for a living and sold them at market. I used to love going to his house into his workshop upstairs are watching him work the pottery and paint them meticulously.

My paternal grandma was a homemaker, I have a feeling she worked in a textile factory when she was younger but I can't be certain.
