Won a prize but company won't/reluctant to send it

I won a prize from a fairly big company in the week before Christmas. Prize is related to a hobby I have and is worth around £100. I was really happy to win and excitedly waited for the prize to turn up. The website I won through asked for my contact and delivery details and I had sent these promptly and received confirmation these had these.
I hadn't received anything by the end of January so contacted the company to check it hadn't been lost in the post...no answer. Left it a week and tried again and got an answer apologising that they had "lost my details" so I resent these. Agaij they confirmed they had them. Nothing had arrived mid February, so I messaged to check again it hadn't been lost in the post. No answer for a week and then they sent an email saying they were waiting for material to come in and would send when it did. My friend has ordered the same item from them recently and received in a week.
They just don't want to send it do they? Should I ask again or just give up and accept it isn't coming? My name was announced on their website so I definitely won!

JUST about to watch double jeopardy.

Op is it a well known company? How did you enter the competition? I'm worried in case you were scammed

randomthoughts · 03/03/2018 23:02

Is it actually a decent film, I’ve still not seen it!

Good luck OP

viques · 03/03/2018 23:18

I won something from a BBC online news competition once, it was only a sodding key ring but it was the kudos of winning it. Caption of The Week Competition if anyone else remembers it...........

Bastards.

Social media is your friend here; they've acted illegally!

prh47bridge · 03/03/2018 23:48

I think the classic example is Ryanair who gave a passenger free flights for life for herself and her nominee then reneged on the deal after 9 years. She took them to court and won £45,000 compensation plus costs of over £100,000.

OP - They offered the prize. You won it. They should cough up. You are not being unreasonable.

Virgin Active gyms never sent me the gift I was meant to have for referring a friend.

I am leaving them now, no surprise there.

Contact ASA or your local trading standards office - they take infringements really seriously (I used to work in advertising and have had a stern phone call or two from both agencies when my boss tried to pull as fast one with bending some regs)

TheJoyOfSox · 04/03/2018 00:22

Gosh! Reminds me f when I won a years supply of laundry liquid. I was absolutely thrilled, expected to receive one bottle each week, when they phoned to arrange delivery I got 60 x 2 litre bottles all at once! Took up all of DH shed.

MrsElvis · 04/03/2018 00:32

I won a meal for two and 1ml lip filler by a "celebrity" lip lady. Although she was about 4 hours away I thought it would be nice to make an overnight city break of it with DH.

I contacted her, explained I was travelling from Other end of the country and will come up day before and stay in a hotel. I booked a date and time with her and book a table a the restaurant.

Then I followed it up asking for her address and how the meal for 2 would be dealt with.

She then ignored my emails or social media messages.

Her phone rang out.

when I googled her address I got various addresses and could see girls saying "hi I turned up today and everything's locked up. I waited an hour and left ?" Etc

Day before we travel, receptionist answers and confirms my booking, doesn't know anything about meal but tells me I can discuss with lady when I arrive.

Went to the restaurant, they knew nothing. Decided to enjoy anyway but we were careful and only ordered starter to share , main and 1 drink each.

Turned up early to my appointment the next day. I already knew there was a problem so went on a mission to the receptionist telling her I was SO EXCITED about my prize and IVE COME ALL THE WAY FROM X! She is utterly confused and knows nothing of competition.

Bearing in mind it was plastered over the company social media for months and she gained hundreds of followers through running it.

4 other girls then turn up and we all have same appointment time. 1 hour goes by, no sign of her. Receptionist keeps typing frantically on her phone and popping out. Hear her whispering to another girl who shared salon space. Could hear her say "I can't send her away she's comes from X" Also hear what sounds like "say it's an emergency or something "

They then ask us all to leave and come back in an hour as there had been an "emergency" I cheerfully said no I couldn't possibly go to the shopping mall they suggested as I had my suitcases and a train to catch.

Another hour goes by. Receptionist cancels rest of the days appointments. Random salon girl says "it will be another hour If she even comes".

She arrives 3 hours late driving up and parking like a lunatic outside, looking really scruffy - totally unlike her social media and acting crazy with her tunic hanging off. She clearly had thrown it on.

She said right come on to me, have my lip filler in less than 2 minutes 6-8 stabs (id asked for numbing cream 3 times in reception as it kept wearing off )

Presented her with the meal bill. Her reply is
I can give you "the £40" in a Bank transfer. What £40??? No mention of £40 limit anywhere. She stands firm I'm only willing to pay £40. Bill is £60ish. At this point we are about to miss the last train to our area and new tickets would be £200.

So I give her Bank details and her laptop plays up on her online banking page. My taxi arrives and she says she will keep trying Hmm

Look in the mirror on the train and can instantly see she's not even given me half a ml. When the swelling goes down the next day my lips are completely unchanged.

I then chase her for the money for months and she insinuates I'm lame for wanting £40Hmm she eventually sent the money. I thought about shaming her on social media but she often goes on the rampage and gets her followers to go on the attack so I just couldn't be arsed.

NapQueen · 04/03/2018 00:55

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 04/03/2018 01:04

OP what's the company!?

Sillysausage123 · 04/03/2018 01:27

MrsElvis another one who wants to know who she was?
Was it a big brother celebrity?

Chapterandverse · 04/03/2018 09:06

MrsElvis- a TOWIE or an Apprentice 'star' by any chance?

Andbabymakesthree · 04/03/2018 09:12

I enter and win alot of competitions in comparison to most people.

You need to chase them. 28 days is standard. Sometimes comps fulfillment are passed to outside agencies which range from great to rubbish.

Even mumsnet has gremlins in system for getting comp prizes out occasionally and need prompting.

If they don't reply then complain to Asa. Comps are advertising.

pumpersnatch · 04/03/2018 09:14

Come on @MrsElvis who was it?
Helen Woods? The Apprentice one? Spill!!

C0untDucku1a · 04/03/2018 09:14

God mes elvis how awful

MrsElvis · 04/03/2018 16:46

Oh God didn't realise anyone would want to know Blush not towie or apprentice star, she's a Manchester lip girl and her clients and friends are often reality stars

Paie · 04/03/2018 16:57

@impostersyndrome
Just on the spin the bottle game? I played this for a while but gave up!

impostersyndrome · 04/03/2018 18:28

Yes @Paie on spin the bottle. I was dead chuffed! It was a prize from a company that makes luxury luscious and crackers.
