To think eating a whole tub of ice cream isn’t normal?

LaurenBrye · 02/03/2018 20:12

I don’t like the word normal but I couldn’t think of anything else.

Now I can have my piggy moments and binge.

We were talking about takeaways and a friend said she could easily and does eat an entire tub of ice cream with her dominos pizza.

Do other people do this?

Although I couldn’t eat a whole tub of ice cream, I could easily polish off a whole tube of pringles which is similar in calories. I don’t do it very often.

megletthesecond · 02/03/2018 20:29

No. Never.
Half a tub is possible though. I've certainly had a fair bit when recovering from tonsilitis in the past.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/03/2018 20:30

It's greedy. But yes, it's normal.

Those "halo top" 1pint ice-cream tubs TELL you to eat the whole thing. "Save the bowl" they say on them.

Marketing ploy to get you to eat more and therefore buy more.

Clandestino · 02/03/2018 20:30

A tub of Haagen Dazs cookies and cream contains 1080 calories, 83g sugar and 43g saturated fat. Normalising this sort of binge eating is why we have so many overweight and obese people in this country.

A tub of Salted Caramel Haagen Dazs is my go to cinema meal. I will eat it all, no sharing and put some golden syrup on top if I have it at home for a good measure of sugary goodness.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 02/03/2018 20:30

I e just googled and on average a krispie kreme donut has around 350 calories. So I ate about 4200 calories in one sitting Shock

causeimunderyourspell · 02/03/2018 20:30

Easy, the ice cream melts and just fills all the gaps in your stomach between the pizza bits, barely even need to engage pudding belly Grinstrawberry cheesecake Hagen Daaz mmmmm.....

I'm one of those naughty people who barely touches dinner to leave room if there's a dessert of some sort going though. I'd prob just have 2 slices of pizza so I was warmed up for the pud!

TheCaptainsCat · 02/03/2018 20:31

Ugh no way too sickly!

And unhealthy.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 02/03/2018 20:31

I ate a whole tub of HD nearly every night when pregnant with DD2. Put on weight but have lost it now. Could still do it easily, but have marginally more self control these days.

Chienrouge · 02/03/2018 20:31

Well I wouldn’t do it because of the amount of calories/sugar... but I could do it if I tried!

reddressblueshoes · 02/03/2018 20:31

There is 100 calories and FORTY grams of saturated fat in a tub of Haagen Dazs.

I would honestly consider that binge eating. I could have half a tub in two sittings, I would say- like if I had it for dessert, then watched a film and wanted a second helping. But a whole tub really does smacking aneating disorder to me- you're not eating for flavour in that quantity, you're not eating from hunger if you've already had dinner, so there must be something psychological there.

LaurenBrye · 02/03/2018 20:31

People have different appetites op. Does that genuinely surprise you? I’m pretty sure my dh could put one of those away after a large pizza to himself!

It does surprise me a bit yes. Pizza is so filling.

I could eat ice cream afterwards but not an entire tub and I used to binge eat really bad.

upsideup · 02/03/2018 20:31

I would be physically sick about half way through. It really worries me the amount of people who seem so proud by the fact that they can and regularly do this, no wonder obesity is such a big issue.
Its not normal, its not healthy, its not funny, its not cool.

reddressblueshoes · 02/03/2018 20:32

Sorry that should obvs have read 1000 not 100

RaskolnikovsGarret · 02/03/2018 20:32

Cause, strawberry cheesecake was my ice cream of choice too! Smile No one else seems to like it. Confused

Do you bring the syrup in your handbag to the cinema? Grin

Can easily eat half a tub of MacKies ( not the chain but Scottish ice cream) to myself once in a while. My dc eat the rest, if they still awakeSmile off to get the Mackies

MsHarry · 02/03/2018 20:33

What size tub? Grin

Robynmasters · 02/03/2018 20:33

This is absolutely not normal. People do it, but there are also people who drink a bottle of spirits a day. People who smoke forty a day. Etc etc.

If she's eating a whole pizza to herself that in itself is bad enough. How on earth does she fit it all in?

LynetteScavo · 02/03/2018 20:33

In my early 20sI'd probably have done that on a weekly basis. I probably wouldn't have eaten breakfast or lunch, though. Those were days. Grin

QueenNefertitty · 02/03/2018 20:33

I've been 9 stone and super healthy, and I've been 15 stone and very unhealthy.

Currently around 10stone, and not eating a lot of junk (stress, baby, lonely)

At all of these times in my life, I could put a tub of ice cream away no problem.

turnipfarmers · 02/03/2018 20:34

I did when I had tonsillitis. I only ate ice cream for a week.

Lost weight too.

mumofthemonsters808 · 02/03/2018 20:35

I'm not a lover of ice cream but in our house they would kill for it, regular squabbles over whose eaten the most. They eat it all year round, I'm glad I'm out of the equation and laugh at my HUsband when he has a fit because "his" Ben and Jerrys has disappered. So in answer to your question, they'd gorge the icecream but not the pitza none of us like it.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/03/2018 20:35

The point being made above is that just because something is 1000 cals, doesn't mean it's a large volume of food to consume.

1000 cals is easy to consume if, say, you ate it as cheese.
Harder to eat 1000 cals of "lower energy density" food such as lettuce - it's probably 10,000 tonnes of lettuce you'd need to get 1000 cals.

Anyhow, what I think is more interesting, OP, and it's a matter for you whether you answer, is whether YOU have issues with food? It is normal to overeat from time to time. It is not normal to be good all the time. You refer to it as "bingeing" though which makes me wonder...I'm a recovering compulsive overeater myself (and alcoholic but that's a different story)

Eg some anorexics fixate a lot on what other people eat and get a thrill, for example, out of watching a fat person eat "bad" food. Or they watch "fat porn" tv programmes about those 600lb folk.
