To think eating a whole tub of ice cream isn’t normal?

I don’t like the word normal but I couldn’t think of anything else.

Now I can have my piggy moments and binge.

We were talking about takeaways and a friend said she could easily and does eat an entire tub of ice cream with her dominos pizza.

Do other people do this?

We've got used to eating more than we need. I remember eating 2 lots of my mums sponge pudding after a pasta meal years ago and feeling so sick I had to lie on the bathroom floor. Now I can eat a dominoes pizza to myself quite easily (not on a regular basis).

I was very healthy years ago, now I know I am eating far more than I need and my health is beginning to pay for it. I wouldn't judge anyone that could do a whole tub of ice cream or a whole pizza - I do it myself - but I don't think it's 'normal' to do it on a regular basis and I think the OP has had a hard time here.

Luca, for me it's compulsion. In my teens/twenties/early thirties I couldn't do a whole pizza. Would have ceral for breakfast, sandwich/crisps/banana/bounty bar for lunch and a vegetarian dinner with a yoghurt. I walked everywhere, probably about 20ksteps a day. When I first started eating moreand moving less (depression) I would at certain points be able to feel my somach expand and I would feel really sluggish for a few days. But once I got used to eating more, I know I didn't enjoy it anymore than I would have if I'd stopped before. For me it's a psychological thing.

I don't judge anyone else's eating habits because I've fluctuated between sizes 8-20 my adult life, but I know for me before I got depressed and fucked up my eating habits, doing a whole pizza or a tub of ice cream for me would not have been the norm because I was eating smaller portions and was a healthy weight. Can't speak for anyone else, though. I'd be interested too, to hear what others say.

Tistheseason17 · 04/03/2018 21:06

To the original question... is it normal?

Depends on your definition of normal.

I can eat a whole tub. It is normal for me to eat a whole tub, but... I don't normally do this. Perhaps once every 6-8 wks or longer.

It is gluttonous which is why it is not daily. But, I wouldn't pass judgement on someone who does.

Have just eaten 4 mini Crunchies....

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 21:08

They say of you're atull alittle hungry you should wait twenty minutes after a meal and you’ll feel fuller when it settles...don’t know if any truth in that but it does seem to work. I also find a lot of times I think I’m hungry i’m infact thirsty.

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 21:09

They say if you’re still alittle hungry that should say

Sorry, a normal person can’t eat a tub of ice cream after eating an entire pizza. I mean, it is physically possible, but unless someone has a problem with sensing satiety, surely that person would feel ill? A tub of ice cream is 500ml, so above 1000 calories. The total caloric intake of the meal is aver 2000 calories!

sonyaya · 04/03/2018 21:28

@luca compulsion for me. I used to be bulimic, and still struggle with the psychology of eating and junk. I’m pleased for all the people on this thread who find it easy to eat small amounts and stop when full but please understand it isn’t like that for everyone, and labelling people “greedy” and “disgusting” isn’t particularly nice.

Clem7 · 04/03/2018 21:30

It’s more like 3000 (and 2-3 days worth of fat). Wonder what it’s being washed down with too.

But apparently it’s comical to suggest having 2 days worth of food in one meal is greedy.

Tistheseason17 · 04/03/2018 21:32

@sonyaya I agree with you. The labelling is really harsh and people seem to find it easy.

I can eat a large pizza followed by ice cream and prob something else later. But, I'm a kind person.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 04/03/2018 21:58

I blame this thread for me eating a whole Haagen-Dazs salted caramel cheesecake this weekend. It wouldn't have occurred to me if I hadn't seen the thread.Angry

browneyes77 · 04/03/2018 22:03

Only if it’s Rum n Raisin flavour.

I’ve amazed my partner with my entire ice cream tub eating skills.

He sat and watched me demolish an entire 1ltr tub of Rum & Raisin ice cream in the space of around 20 minutes last summer. Took him a while to close his mouth that was dangling open with shock Grin

impossible · 04/03/2018 22:06

I used to do it no problem. Something rather nice about eating out of the tub and the paper caving in. Probably couldn't do now

OwlinaTree · 04/03/2018 22:19

Tistheseason17

But surely ‘greedy’ is a fair descriptor? Greedy means having an excessive appetite for food.

Eating a large dominos and a whole tub is the equivalent of a meal for at least 3 peope.

If I went to a restaurant with someone and they ate 3 mains and 3 deserts, I would think that’s greedy.

I wouldn’t think they were a bad person, and I have my own unhealthy habits (including overeating a times).

I do agree that there have been some unkind comments in the thread, but others just acknowledge that it is a really large volume of food and I think that’s fair.

noeffingidea · 04/03/2018 22:36

Blimey, this thread is something else. Are we too early for the annual 'how many cadbury creme eggs can you eat in one go' thread?

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 22:42

noeffingidea I only eat one at a time be I’ve munched my way through enough to feed my entire area and still haven’t discovered the enigmatic white egg!! I’m not amused...Shock where are those? I’ve only heard of one woman winning and I’m starting to think there are individuals unknowingly eating white creme eggs all in one and oblivious to the competition!

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 22:43

but*

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 22:44

Maybe that is a whole new thread though...Hmm

natureshaped · 04/03/2018 22:49

If it wasn't for the guilt I feel then yes, definitely. It can be done.

TheC · 04/03/2018 22:52

A tub of Ben and Jerries Cookie Dough ice cream is just under 1200 calories which is more than half of your daily recommended calorie intake.

I think the whole 2000 calories a day thing is bullshit anyway. If I ate that much consistently then I’d gain weight.

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 23:00

I find that one day I might over eat and the next day undereat but it all kind of balances out over the whole week. I’m not one of those has to religiously have three meals a day people. If i’m hungry I’ll eat and if I’m not I won’t. If i know I’m having something calorific for dinner I’ll eat very little through the day so that I enjoy it more and done over eat as much.

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 23:00

DownstairsMixUp · 04/03/2018 23:06

I'm still full from the first drop of colostrum in 1987

PorkFlute · 04/03/2018 23:40

Generally the people who are obsessed with what they and others eat and are constantly dieting and making a song and dance of only having the tiniest impossible-to-cut sliver of cake are the people who are overweight in my circle.
My favourite is ‘I’ll not need to have any tea now’ after a completely average sized lunch. Why do people think others are impressed by how little they eat? I couldn’t personally give a shit. Whole tubs of ice cream or lettuce leaves crack on it’s not me eating it!
