To think eating a whole tub of ice cream isn’t normal?

LaurenBrye · 02/03/2018 20:12

I don’t like the word normal but I couldn’t think of anything else.

Now I can have my piggy moments and binge.

We were talking about takeaways and a friend said she could easily and does eat an entire tub of ice cream with her dominos pizza.

Do other people do this?

Well normal means that most people would do it doesn’t it? I think most people binge eat/drink on occasion. I’ve never been overweight in my life but I will still occasionally eat a takeaway that is far more food than I’d normally cook for myself.
It’s abnormal to never eat more than you need to sustain yourself imo and it’s abnormal to overeat daily. Ocassional full tub of Ben and Jerry’s = perfectly normal imo.
Strangely enough in real life the only people who judge food intake that I know saying things like ‘how could you possibly eat all that (perfectly normal portion of food) and crowing about what dainty eaters they are are themselves overweight! Nowt queerer than folk!

Alicatz66 · 04/03/2018 19:30

I couldn’t eat all that ice cream .. but if it was crisps that would be different .. I can hoover through them all day !!

changeznameza · 04/03/2018 19:31

I used to regularly eat whole tubs in
one go as a secret binge but would never have admitted it to anyone. Ever.

I have found this thread wonderfully liberating! Before, I was full of shame and self hatred and I thought I was the greediest most disgusting person in the world; but actually there are loads of us who have done this and it's not the end of the world - hooray! Although we all agree it's an occasional thing rather than an everyday habit.

I love food and always will - but eating in secret and feeling ashamed about it is totally rubbish. Three cheers for honesty. Being honest is first step towards being in control

I once, many years ago, bet DH a bottle of expensive single malt that he couldn't eat two tubs of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia in one go without throwing up. I lost the bet.

I may have called him a bastard.

I don't bet on food these days.

Lethaldrizzle · 04/03/2018 19:32

I love food but eat till I'm full and then stop. Often food left over.

Jenasaurus · 04/03/2018 19:36

1300 calories if chocolate brownie ben and jerrys tub. I couldn't do it, my lactose intolerant son however loves to eat a whole tub and then we all suffer the consequences

ArchchancellorsHat · 04/03/2018 19:38

Would you say a dr Oetker sized pizza is a family one or a one person one? I think the calorie information on the front is per half-pizza, so presumably two servings, to be had with salad or similar?

CobraKai · 04/03/2018 19:38

I really wish people wouldn't minimise the word 'triggered'. It isn't just a reaction to something people disagree with or find distasteful.

It has a genuine meaning.

PurpleDaisies · 04/03/2018 19:42

Would you say a dr Oetker sized pizza is a family one or a one person one?

I’d normally split one with dh and have it with peas or some other frozen veg. I wouldn’t feel guilty about eating a whole one though, they’re about 800 calories.

Lashalicious · 04/03/2018 19:43

This thread is still going? We are talking about a pint size. That is not so huge. If you’re not eating piles of fat laden meats and sauces and other sweets, then 1 pint is not terrible. Toast and fruit for breakfast, cheese sandwich on whole grain bread and a salad for lunch, dinner is fish and a green vegetable. One pint of ice cream is ok with that kind of day I think. I don’t care for chips or candy bars but ice cream (or frozen yogurt) is my thing.

It all depends on the other meals you’re having.

DarthNigel · 04/03/2018 19:48

I could do this easily and have!

Sara107 · 04/03/2018 19:53

A 1 pint tub of ice cream is considered to be a single serving in the USA. (I work for an ice cream manufacturer).

clarkl2 · 04/03/2018 20:06

Gross. Is your friend the size of a house? That level of gluttony is disgusting

CanIhavedessertfirst · 04/03/2018 20:13

I'm suprised this post is still going! Wonder if the ice cream lady is on mumsnet. Don't worry pint party person, you're not alone.

snowone · 04/03/2018 20:13

Errrrrrm - it's very doable in this household. My husband will do a full tub of Ben and Jerrys in one sitting, I try to make one do 2!! 😁

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/03/2018 20:14

Is she overweight ? She bloody should be GrinAngry

I could but won’t - Ice cream just slips down

WiggyPig · 04/03/2018 20:15

Years ago in a flat share, my flatmate and I used to watch You Are What You Eat with a bottle of wine and a huge pizza to share, and a tub each of ice cream Grin

We were both cycling nearly 20 miles a day and living off pasta & veg the rest of the week though.

AimeeNoOneTheSamee · 04/03/2018 20:16

I’m sorry, I know some of you are arguing and debating and what not but... I just really need to know more about this saving the cookie dough chunks thing! Mind boggling.

Just to ‘weigh in’ - I can easily eat a Ben and Jerry’s size ice cream tub to myself. After dominoes pizza too.

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 20:17

I can do half of a Ben and Jerry’s tub but certainly not after a pizza (obviously depending on how much of said pizza i’d ate.)

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/03/2018 20:22

can and will, however, eat an entire apple strudel with a whole can of custard

That’s actually a really nice potential ice cream flavour

Anyway OP friend is overweight so yeah -
Kind of makes sense really Confused

I dont judge her but the binge cultures pretty sad if you take a step back and think about it Sad

CanIhavedessertfirst · 04/03/2018 20:25

This post makes me realise what a greedy shit I am. I'm not even sorry.

Teacher22 · 04/03/2018 20:27

A tub of Ben and Jerries Cookie Dough ice cream is just under 1200 calories which is more than half of your daily recommended calorie intake. A pizza can contain 1000 to 1800 odd calories depending on the amount of cheese and toppings it contains.

You would have to be insane to eat a whole pizza and follow it with a family sized tub of ice cream.

A better bet would be about a third of a pizza ( at most) with a green salad and a small, yogurt sized pot of ice cream.

Shockers · 04/03/2018 20:39

Just reading about ice cream and pizza triggers my IBS Sad.

PasstheStarmix · 04/03/2018 20:46

Ben and Jerry’s half and half mmm my weakness

mynameisLuca · 04/03/2018 20:50

I think the bit that surprises me is that people actually enjoy, say, a whole tub of ice cream any more than they enjoy two scoops. I mean, once you've eaten that much you have all the flavour and you've had lots of sugar, do you really enjoy the rest of it?
Same for an entire apple strudel or a whole pizza, do you actually enjoy it after eating half or is a compulsion of some kind?
No judgement here, not my business, just wondering.
