Just that really.

I was so excited about DH having a 'snow day' tomorrow! Thinking duvet day with hot chocolate... but he has a company car with his job and today they traded it in with a 4x4, just so he can get to work tomorrow! GAH!!

natureshaped · 01/03/2018 20:37

First World problems I know but... GAH!

My dh is having a snow day tomorrow and he left work at about 2pm today Grin

For me it’s not hysteria it’s just very frustrating. My flight home has been cancelled leaving me stranded in London, fortunately I have a hotel room sorted and I’ll see what tomorrow brings. My lovely and very capable husband is looking after our 17 month old and they are both fine although they have much more snow than London does. I miss them both and would much rather be going home but other folks have it much worse.
It does seem daft at first thought but the reason relatively small amounts of snow shut the country down when they don’t in Norway etc is that it’s a rare occurrence here, therefore it’s not worth investing in the infrastructure to deal with it. In many countries everyone is required to use winter tyres for specified months, how many people in the UK make that investment, let alone councils sinking millions into gritters than come out every few years. For me home is northern Scotland and they are actually pretty well prepared, a fair amount of snow but not much worse than earlier in the year, the response has been pretty good in getting things gritted and cleared. Down in London there is much less snow but no grit at all, particularly on pavements so the walking is quite slippery.

I thought the snow today was fun & pretty but... now it's raining on top of snow & ive realised that I'll be walking to work tomorrow on iced up pavements.... hmm not good.

Plus a lot of staff may not even make it in - I work in a hospital & many staff live miles away.

Operations have been cancelled as well.

Not even as bad as Consett, strawberries!!!

tinkywinky2018 · 02/03/2018 00:23

Kursk - tinkywinky2018 is a strident expert on every single thread/topic she posts on. Parenting; schools; abortion; finances; what is acceptable to say on the internet; child care; CCTV - and that's just the threads I've read today whilst waiting around the hospital!! Pinch of salt time, definitely (plus it's good for dissolving the snow

You seem to confusing me with someone else, or maybe several people or maybe just the voices in your head

GoadyTwoShoes · 02/03/2018 01:32

I'm in a badly affected area. I had to shut down my business yesterday because stock deliveries couldn't reach us. It remained closed today, and will be tomorrow, and maybe the next day....
I'll probably spend next week refunding all the disappointed customers whose orders didn't reach them on time.
Still, all fun and games eh Hmm

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/03/2018 21:41

Thank you for the thoughts for my neighbour, baby was delivered yesterday is doing as well as can be expected right now, unfortunately she is pretty poorly but her DH has said doctors are very cautiously optimistic so fingers crossed.

It wasn’t her being reckless or endangering herself and baby, she’d taken the decision to work from home and was going from her front door to her car to get her bag...no more the 10 feet and this happens.

Please be careful out there.

BalloonSlayer · 02/03/2018 21:54

Goodness me, it's clear that the OP is saying that while some areas are terribly badly affected by severe snow, people in other areas have 0.5 inches and are behaving as if armageddon has come.

All you people who have posted about awful things happening due to the snow: are you seriously not pissed off when Sky News interviews Jeremy Braying-Twat, whose train has been delayed by 45 minutes due to the weather and who is suffering trauma as a result?

SnowBusinessLikeSlowBusiness · 02/03/2018 21:57

&Goodness me, it's clear that the OP is saying that while some areas are terribly badly affected by severe snow, people in other areas have 0.5 inches and are behaving as if armageddon has come*

Goodness, you got all that from OP's post, which was "AIBU to love all the snow hysteria? Just that really"

How clever you are Hmm

Willow2017 · 03/03/2018 09:59

Balloon
Ops short initial post said nothing of the sort.

and not having sky i dont care what thier news says

i care that someone makes a sweeping statement about 'hysteria' when obviously the storms have caused deaths and pile- ups and distress to thousands of people. Its not that difficult to see she was wrong to make that statement.
