Just that really.

OP posts:
PortiaCastis · 01/03/2018 19:18

Competitive snow bravado abounds

joystir59 · 01/03/2018 19:18

It's justified here where waves arecrashing over the sea walls strong enough to wash vehicles clean away

GottadoitGottadoit · 01/03/2018 19:22

I am not dismissing the misery of others, I don’t think anybody on here has posted about their own misery. They are posting about the misery of people they mostly don’t know. It feels (for the most part, I’m sure some of you hand wringers are lovely empathetic people) manufactured and vampyric.

Oh dear, looks like there's snowflakes aplenty on this thread too

I'm afraid I can only agree with you. Sometimes, I feel embarrassed to admit to being British.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 19:22

Ignoring the OP (as im sure cracker would prefer Smile)

Ive been copying quotes through the thread that I think are particularly stupid...and then not using them when ive found a stupider one

This one wins Healthy adults not driving are being hysterical

Its had some tough competition to be fair...but a clear leader in its field

Thanks for everyone struggling

FreeNiki · 01/03/2018 19:31

What annoys me is all the piss taking on facebook that everyone else can cope with snow but us.

Well we dont spent millions on snow ploughs and equipment but this happens once every few years. We cant cope and dont have the equipment as it isnt a regular occurrence.

Blackteadrinker77 · 01/03/2018 19:31

Healthy adults not driving are being hysterical

I'm sure the hundreds of people who got stuck on the M80 for 9 hours would have rather been hysterical.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 19:34

tippz

I agree

Last time we had snow like this where i live was about 9'years ago

But yeah...silly us not having masses of snow ploughs on standby, what were we thinking!!

And where are the hysterical and irrational posts that someone up thread mentioned?

Kursk · 01/03/2018 19:38

tinkywinky2018

Yes your right as a resident of one of those states I have no clue.

Blackteadrinker77 · 01/03/2018 19:39

Death toll now up to 10.

wintermonster · 01/03/2018 19:43

Chips and peas - why dig your car out in that situation?

Niceandwarmandhot · 01/03/2018 19:47

Kursk - tinkywinky2018 is a strident expert on every single thread/topic she posts on. Parenting; schools; abortion; finances; what is acceptable to say on the internet; child care; CCTV - and that's just the threads I've read today whilst waiting around the hospital!! Pinch of salt time, definitely (plus it's good for dissolving the snow Wink).

MyNameIsNotSteven · 01/03/2018 19:50

Just using this thread to express my 'hysteria' about a colleague being made to travel from their base on a 30 mile rural journey for a non-urgent clinic that most patients probably won't be able to attend. Funny how the 'hysteria' about providing all sorts of documentation before you can claim travel expenses under the guise of duty of care, doesn't extend to taking people off the road during red alerts.

Tippz · 01/03/2018 19:57

@Rufustherenegadereindeer1

I agree tippz.....Last time we had snow like this where i live was about 9'years ago.

But yeah...silly us not having masses of snow ploughs on standby, what were we thinking!!

Grin I know. What are we like?!

And where are the hysterical and irrational posts that someone up thread mentioned?

Yep, cannot see them either. Just a bunch of silly, goady, sarcastic shit from a few posters who are claiming to live outside the UK.

Remember. Don't engage with them. It's what they want. It relieves the boredom for them!

It's very severe here at the moment. Very windy and intensely cold. (minus 4 C,) with snow drifting everywhere.

Feel sorry for the animals outside. Sad

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 20:00

tippz

Not too bad here

But roads are chaos

I am incensed on behalf of some of friends working in a shop who were finally allowed to leave at 6pm. Apparently one customer had been sent home from work early and decided to go shopping....twat

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 01/03/2018 20:05

Remarks like not travelling to your job in the bank amuse me actually. Some people cannot think outside their own little bubble. If hat person dhas want travel to their unimportant job in the bank may not have a wonderful boss that says ah yes of course stay at home they may have a boss that puts pressure on them to attend and employment may be at risk if they don’t. Also people on zero hours contracts that have to go to work or they don’t get paid. It may seem inessential to you but it is very bloody essential to them.

I live in the Highlands 25 miles to the south inverness has nothing 20 miles to the north and the a9 was blanketed with snow last night and more coming. We are in between and have about 4/5 inches. Our schools were closed today we can get out and about easily on foot and in the car but loads of the staff probably couldn’t get in from outlying areas. The thing about a lot of this snow is that it is pretty localised areas that are getting hit badly with it so while you may have a dusting a few miles away conditions are dangerous.

WowIFreelStrange · 01/03/2018 20:11

3 people have been reported dead..

The last one was earlier this evening. A 7 year old girl.

It's on channel 5 now live.

Red warnings in some places- channel 5 news said it is life threatening. No one should leave the house either if absloutley necessary.

Good luck everyone.

Willow2017 · 01/03/2018 20:13

People are always dying. EVERY FUCKING DAY! Many from preventable causes. We are still allowed to enjoy ourselves for Christ’s sake!

Yes but in the context of this thread its not everyday deaths they are as a direct result of the weather. And dismissing them as unimportant and people being 'hysterical' about the worst weather we have had in years because op has a day to sit in her house and do nowt IS pathetic.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 20:23

Absolutely

Gingaaarghpussy · 01/03/2018 20:24

I live in a yellow alert area, not far from the coast.
I had to invest in a pair of snow boots yesterday because walking through piles of snow in trainers is not nice.
We didn't have any snow overnight so its all slush and slippery pavements. Also market day, only one mad stall holder turned up. Most of the independent shops were shut.
It annoys me that everything grinds to a halt when we get 2 inches of snow, but I understand it. A lot of the shops are run by elderly volunteers so its not surprising they aren't open.
I spent one winter in Yorkshire and learnt down a back lane how to drive in snowy conditions, that was fun not
Fortunately no one has done any panic buying yet but I did hear 2 lidls workers discussing when the next load of bread was hopefully being delivered.

JRTaylor80 · 01/03/2018 20:27

"And where are the hysterical and irrational posts that someone up thread mentioned?

Yep, cannot see them either."

They're pretty much littered all over this thread, including yours. None so blind as those who refuse to see.

People, including small children, die on our roads every single day. To conflate reasonable criticism of some of the media coverage and state authorities reaction of this to making attacks on bereaved families is gross censorship of the worst kind. Knock it off.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 20:28

Mine??

Ooh what did i say

Will pop back and check

Gingaaarghpussy · 01/03/2018 20:28

And why do we hear about owners trying to save their dog from icy ponds EVERY year, to find out that most times the dog survives and the owner unfortunately didn't make it?
In this particular scenario do peoples brains switch off or what?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 20:30

oh sorry

Reread

Did you mean tippz

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/03/2018 20:31

Although i cant see where tippz was hysterical either
