AIBU to say that Tony Blair should go away

Tony Blair is in Brussels today to convince EU leaders to try and stop Brexit.

TheEgoHasLanded

Whether you support Brexit or not, Tony Blair still has not got the message that we do not are what he thinks, he has no credibility in the UK and he does not represent us.

Tony Blair and his wife should go live in America where they think he is great and leave us Brits in peace. We are not interested in anything he has to say. We do not trust him. He is still trying to find himself a role as big as his over inflated ego.

Some of the comments on here are completely and utterly irrational. Hearing him speak today took me back to a time when politicians weren't all contemptible and there was a sense that people in charge knew what they were doing, even if they didn't always get it right.

And many people I know love having a rant about 'Mr Blair the war criminal' who has 'blood on his hands', is a 'lying cunt' etc etc. They never show anything like the same level of outrage for other global atrocities and their perpetrators. I am convinced many left wing people are, on some level, pleased Iraq happened because it gives them a perfect excuse to loath a leader who actually won elections for them and did do a lot of good, while they stood by moaning about 'Tory Tony'. Tories, of course, are thrilled a Labour leader is seen in this way and gleefully join in the braying about blood on hands, knowing full well their own leaders would have done exactly the same.

Meanwhile the country goes down the shitter but we can't listen to someone who actually has the expertise and ability to show a possible way out of the mess because lying cunt, blood on his hands blah fucking blah. Angry.

He was. He did. He is. And yes I do have the same level of outrage for those others too. This world is shit. Simple, normal people who just want to live have no chance.

Tippz · 01/03/2018 21:34

YES he should bore off, and take those twats John Major and Anna fucking Soubrey with him.

Annoying assholes. Hmm

ShiverMeTimberz · 01/03/2018 21:37

I have massive respect for John Major these days. Unsurprisingly the knuckle draggers find it much easier to attack the man than address what he actually says.

ShiverMeTimberz · 01/03/2018 21:38

Because many of them don't actually care. It's just another way of attacking the person rather than admit 'yeah, he's making sense on this Brexit bullshit'.

Tony Blair led an imperfect government that did amazing things for our country. No one else has ever won a GE for Labour in my lifetime, it's necessary to appear to occupy the centre ground in order to win (then you can make the radical changes they did).

He speaks perfect sense on Brexit, though I don't believe it'll do any good Sad

Niceandwarmandhot · 01/03/2018 21:43

Right, so because he makes sense on Brexit, we should forget all the crap he's caused? Or the fact that he has made millions out of apparently being a socialist and managed to cut taxes on it to a tiny percentage?

One thing doesn't cancel out all the other things!

SmiledWithTheRisingSum · 01/03/2018 21:48

It seems to me, OP that an awful lot of "us Brits" are indeed "too thick to know what is good for us" Hmm

Theworldisfullofidiots · 01/03/2018 21:54

I worked for the NHS when Blair got in. Frank Dobson was the health secretary (Yes I'm that old). It made a huge difference.

ToadOfToadHallSingsTillLate · 01/03/2018 21:54

You are not being unreasonable. He's a complete tit

ChoudeBruxelles · 01/03/2018 21:57

Major is talking about Brexit too. Blimey these people who ran the country and now continue to have an opinion are brazen. Rather them talking than idiots like farage and Johnson who frankly are self serving twats

whywhywhywhywhyyy · 01/03/2018 21:59

He's absolutely right, so YABU

ShiverMeTimberz · 01/03/2018 22:02

Yes, Choude. It's not as though Major is intervening for personal gain. Unlike Fox and Mogg and the rest of that execrable shower who are all about Brexit to further their own interests.

Beetlejizz · 01/03/2018 22:07

He was something of a peacemaker in NI though numpty. Which is what he was discussing.

You have every right to be angry about Iraq, as well all do but you more so than many. But it doesn't make him any less right about NI. Thus if you'd abandon your opposition to Brexit because of him giving an accurate assessment of the peace process, what you're basically doing is deciding that people in NI should pay the price for Iraq. That is at best a total logic fail.

As the poster upthread points out, though she applies it in the exact opposite way that she should, the one doesn't cancel out the other.

Beetlejizz · 01/03/2018 22:13

Not just people who ran the country choude. People who ran the country and were instrumental in the NI peace process. Gosh, it's like there might be a common denominator here isn't it...

purits · 01/03/2018 22:20

The irony is that he is mostly responsible for Brexit. If he had insisted on a transitional immigration system when countries like Poland joined the EU (like other countries did) then we wouldn't have had as much pressure on housing, schooling, health care and jobs which prompted a lot of people (especially those suffering in the North) to vote for Brexit. Labour said approx 15,000 Poles would come to the UK and it ended up being over 1 million. Either this is a gross miscalculation (in which case who can trust Labour with numbers) or it was done on purpose to stop any backlash. He is a duplicitous, hypocritical liar and his chickens have now come home to roost.

This. All Blair could do this morning was blather something about if we did a deal with the EU on immigration then we wouldn't need Brexit any more. He seems to have forgotten that Cameron tried to make deals with the EU before the referendum and was sent away with a flea in his ear. The EU will never compromise on free movement of people.
The sooner we leave the sinking ship the better.

Bluelady · 01/03/2018 22:24

Cameron was a complete waste of space which was why he was given a bloody nose in the referendum. Who knows what could be achieved by a decent negotiator? Unfortunately there isn't one of those among the current bunch of idiots on both sides of the Commons.

ShiverMeTimberz · 01/03/2018 22:24

Please feel free to jump overboard tonight.

purits · 01/03/2018 22:27

Who knows what could be achieved by a decent negotiator?

We haven't got one because the EU has done all our negotiating for us for the past several years. We have got out of the habit. We have let them de-skill us.

ShiverMeTimberz · 01/03/2018 22:28

Mean EU having stolen your negotiating super powers. Damn them to hell!

birdsdestiny · 01/03/2018 22:30

If we are that hopeless maybe we best stay in the EU.

birdsdestiny · 01/03/2018 22:31

Stole our negotiating skills, gave us square bananas, bastards the lot of them.

purits · 01/03/2018 22:33

If we are that hopeless maybe we best stay in the EU.

That's a pretty spineless option. I'd prefer to try to re-build.

Bluelady · 01/03/2018 22:33

You can't be deskilled of skills you never had. Both Major and Blair are proven skilled negotiators, there's nobody who comes close in the current chaotic rabble.
