What are your thoughts about this?

OP posts:
TheFirstMrsDV · 01/03/2018 12:29

I am 50.
I am sitting here despairing that in 2018 women are asking questions like this.
WTF was the point on me going on all those sodding marches and having all those rows with people who told me 'girls don't', 'girls can't'

mmgirish · 01/03/2018 12:29

I'm a beer fan. I say start as you mean to go on...

purplelass · 01/03/2018 12:30

I do think it looks blokey
Shock

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/03/2018 12:30

Bloody hell, I need a pint, of anything!!!!

natureshaped · 01/03/2018 12:31

Agree that so long as it's a real ale not a crappy lager then it's fine!

DarthNigel · 01/03/2018 12:32

If you have to drink halves not pints because you feel he would judge id say he's not the man for you.

ScrambledSmegs · 01/03/2018 12:32

MIL ordered and drank stout on her first date with FIL and he wasn't put off. FIL's dad was apparently so impressed when he heard that he told FIL that she was a 'keeper', and they've been married for over 40 years now.

Anyone who cares that much about what you drink (unless you're an alcoholic, which I presume you're not) probably adheres to some very rigid gender stereotypes and really needs to give their head a wobble.

bellasuewow · 01/03/2018 12:32

You all have it completely wrong and are all behind the times and ragingly transphobic.
Any girl who orders a beer is not a woman but a trans man and trans men are men so to suggest that he is a woman is clearly an act of transphobia and emotional violence and abuse.
Therefore the op is a gender conforming man by ordering a beer.
😁

piratequeenio · 01/03/2018 12:32

I have been drinking pints of ale for over 30 years.

I am yet to grow a penis or sprout a beard.

I think you're quite safe.

x2boys · 01/03/2018 12:35

I'm not really a fan of beer myself I prefer wine I used to drink pints of cider though in my student days or sometimes lager and lime ,black

Peanutbuttercups21 · 01/03/2018 12:35

so funny, on my first date with DH I had a pint of lager.

He was thrilled.

I am foreign, so did not know it was not quite ladylike or something, in the UK Grin

This was 20 years ago.

Quite a few of my friends would happily have a pint, I think attitudes have moved on a bit!

AdaColeman · 01/03/2018 12:36

As long as it's a Belgian beer, it will be grand!

PhelanThePain · 01/03/2018 12:38

Christ alive! What fucking century is this?? Confused

FuzzyCustard · 01/03/2018 12:40

Anyone said Babycham yet?

OP, the opinions of a bunch of internet people really do not matter. My only dating advice is have a wee before you go out. (To be fair, that's my advice to anyone venturing outside their house...it's always best to be prepared!)

Branleuse · 01/03/2018 12:43

Probably means theyre secretly trans

SomewhereontheM6 · 01/03/2018 12:44

I know what you mean though. A little bit of me cringes when DP orders a cocktail or a Bailys in the pub. He doesn't really drink and tends towards the sweet so will have something more akin to a pudding.

What makes it worse is that I do like bitter. So we do look fucking odd when we go out.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 01/03/2018 12:44

I do think it looks blokey

People who think and say things like this deserve to be popped on a little island in the south pacific, well away from civilised society. It's 2018 and a woman has to consciously think about what she'd prefer to drink in case a total stranger thinks it "looks blokey". Are there blokes drinks and women's drinks? No. There's just drinks. Fucking blokey my arse.

CadyHeron · 01/03/2018 12:46

But planning on having a pint or two this eve. Should I go for pints or halves?! Not normally this inedecisive but I know he likes the fact I like beer and don’t also don’t really care what he thinks - neverrheless bit paranoid I am being blokey

Go for what the heck you like, why be paranoid about your preferred drink choice?!
I must have missed a memo saying women were only allowed to drink "feminine" drinks now (whatever one of those is)
Be you. If he thinks you're too blokey for ordering a pint, really give him something to moan about and attempt to burp the Alphabet after it Grin

Snowyhere2018 · 01/03/2018 12:47

I suggest you ask your date first for a list if drinks you have permission to drink. Why stop there though? How definitely should be consulted on what you wear, what you eat and the topics you can discuss.

Hmm

Get a grip OP.

purplelass · 01/03/2018 12:47

Is there a list I haven't seen of men's drinks and women's drinks?

What about food?
I had a Yorkie yesterday, does that make me a bit blokey too?

MammaSchwifty · 01/03/2018 12:49

Whut? Confused

Haven't you been to a pub before? You don't need to place your order hours in advance, or anything. You just go up to the bar and order whatever you happen to fancy drinking at the time, based on what's available. There, now you can stop worrying about that!

Justanotherzombie · 01/03/2018 12:51

I am sitting here despairing that in 2018 women are asking questions like this.

My thoughts exactly. So depressing.

DalekDalekDalek · 01/03/2018 12:53

Ah crap, I've woken up in 1963 again. Damn.

ShatnersWig · 01/03/2018 12:53

As a man, I couldn't give a toss what you drank. I'd just be thrilled to be on a date. If he doesn't want a second date, it could be for all sorts of reasons, but the likelihood of him finding you unattractive solely because of what you drink is ridiculously slim.

Volume of drink, rather than what you drink, possibly could come into play if you got totally pissed and turned unpleasant!

SnibbleAgain · 01/03/2018 12:54

purplelass

well there kind of is, isn't there

steak is for men
salad is for women

Pie is for men
yoghurt is for women

gin and tonic is for women
pints are for men

etc
