What are your thoughts about this?

OP posts:

Best to be yourself I think. If you normally drink pints of beer on a night out do that. I wouldn't want to be with someone who didn't approve of women drinking a pint if they fancy one.

Grumpyoldblonde · 02/03/2018 21:45

A female ordering pints is far from unusual and I am very far from 'blokey' I'm just thirsty and don't want to go queue at the bar more often than necessary.

I'm 50, quite feminine looking and nobody has ever raised any eyebrow ever.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 02/03/2018 21:48

I'd say, "beetroot cider's nicer."

mrwalkensir · 02/03/2018 21:48

25 years plus of happy marriage. The previous girlfriend like Malibu and pineapple. My 'alf a bitter was seen as sensible/good taste/cheap date Grin

jcyclops · 02/03/2018 21:51

If the first date was on a Sunday at church, or in a library, or at a school PTA meeting, then I would definitely advise against ordering a pint of beer.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 02/03/2018 21:57

I remember in Pizza Hut, XH ordered a glass of wine and I ordered a beer and the server gave them to us the wrong way round, we swapped them and she looked a bit sheepish and apologised! 😂

PoohBearsHole · 02/03/2018 21:58
  1. Beer is actually good for women -can help i the battle against osteoporosis
  2. Glassware is far more attractive these days in the majority of outlets - goblets, interesting and more delicately shaped pints rather than the standard 60's version
  3. You can buy in thirds -legal measures - often now shown on glassware (especially American brands)

It's all about branding, it's all about encouraging non beer drinkers to drink beer.

Gin communityhave done it with encouraging men to drink their products too.

There is nothing actually blokey about drinking pints. I know some immensely cultured, skinny, beautiful "girls" ;(everyone younger than me is a girl 😂) Who drink pints. In moderation.

Choose something interesting, instant lack of respect sets in if there are 7 craft/real ales on the bar and you go for a Guinness. Same goes for choosing the Stella over an interesting Italian/British/German later on the bar.

In addition beer has far less calories than wine, so..... beer bellies are genetic and more to do with the appalling diet that heavier (not moderate) drinkers have. Not all male beer drinkers have a beer belly, not all male g and t/wine are slender!

Hope you had a nice pint.

I haven't rtft but my two cents worth: I'm Irish & work in a bar in N.I. The only people who order half pints are English men for their female partners. I find it weird. I can't think of any other group of tourists who routinely order half pints so I get that it's an English thing. I drink beer and it's pints or bottles. Same for most Irish women. If you drink beer & can handle your pints then drink pints. Not something to fret about!

shabbyshibby · 02/03/2018 22:08

PoohBearsHole are you serious re Guinness?! A perfectly poured pint of Guinness is a thing of sublime beauty and is a fantastic drink. Stout and ale are not the same thing & Guinness is not a poor second. Except in London where they don't know how to treat or pour the stuff. Worst pint I've ever had in my life.

clumsyduck · 02/03/2018 22:11

I drink pints always have . My dp wouldn't dream of ordering me a half .

God imagine a world where the size of a glass holding your drink wasn't some marker of gender

PoohBearsHole · 02/03/2018 22:15

Shabby I've never had a proper pint Guinness in England They are not well trained in pouring or keeping of it here. I know in Ireland it's a true thing of beauty but I can't guarantee the OP is in Ireland Smile so have to err on the side of caution Wink some people also add things to it - NOOOOOOO. However bottled Guinness is a regular in this household Grin

PoohBearsHole · 02/03/2018 22:18

Shabby it's probably because a lot of bar managers have Guinness on the bar as it has a longer shelf life than a cask bitter/stout. This doesn't however mean they keep the lines clean.....hence your very crappy London pint Smile I can only apologise for our shocking treatment of the black gold.

Isjaki · 02/03/2018 22:19

My friend lives in London and is always muttering about how bad the Guinness is. All to do with the pipes apparently. The pipes get clogged up if they're not used regularly enough. I don't know why he keeps trying the Guinness as it always ends the same: one sip, then a grimace and then a muttering about 'pipes'. Grin

Isjaki · 02/03/2018 22:20

cross post with PoohBear Smile

NotUmbongoUnchained · 02/03/2018 22:20

I order half pints of Guinness because I never drink it quick enough and it goes all brown on top and flat.
Drink pints of everything else though.

PoohBearsHole · 02/03/2018 22:21

Isjaki - yeast deposits

shabbyshibby · 02/03/2018 22:21

Well Pooh if you're a Guinness fan already, great excuse to make the trip & experience the real deal Grin

thebewilderness · 02/03/2018 22:21

Beer is dreadful nasty and yuk!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/03/2018 22:22

Unless you’re meeting Al Murray I wouldn’t sweat it

PoohBearsHole · 02/03/2018 22:23

Shabby - it's on the bucket list. Dh and I were talking about crossing the waters and it being the one place we would both love to visit only this week.

(Snow plans!!!!!)

JanKind · 02/03/2018 22:44

Not a prob. Next question?

DalekDalekDalek · 02/03/2018 22:45

Has OP been back to update on her date or is her other post about being late to her date the last we heard from her?

Flomper · 03/03/2018 08:49

shabbyshibby · 03/03/2018 10:19
