Girl ordering beer on first date

What are your thoughts about this?

OP posts:
Bettyfood · 02/03/2018 05:31

I wouldn't drink beer if we were eating as it tends to fill me up too much. But yes, if someone had an issue with my ordering a pint there wouldn't be a second date.

falang · 02/03/2018 05:39

I only drink pints. I quaff a half in about 2 seconds. This is a weird question OP. It wouldn't even cross my mind not to drink what I wanted on a date.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 02/03/2018 05:43

Drink a pint if you want it! It’s 2018, for heavens sake.

Over here we drink it by the litre in Maßkrugs. 🍺 At beer gardens and festivals. Perfectly normal.

goose1964 · 02/03/2018 05:43

I drank beer on my first date with DH, we're also CAMRA members. I went on a date where he ordered a pint and a G&T , the barman gave me the G&T and him the pint, we swapped and the look on the barman's face was priceless

Quickerthanavicar · 02/03/2018 05:47

Woman wants a beer, woman orders a beer, the world celebrates these rights and moves on.

NotAgainYoda · 02/03/2018 06:10

Only drink pints. They make your hands look small and dainty Wink

Niceandwarmandhot · 02/03/2018 07:40

How is this even a question? Are you doing "research" for a romcom?!

MongerTruffle · 02/03/2018 07:42

You have to be 18 to drink alcohol
No, you don't.
In the UK you can drink alcohol on private premises from the age of 5.
From the age of 16, you can drink beer, wine or cider in a pub or restaurant if accompanied by an adult.
You can buy alcohol when you are 18.

speakout · 02/03/2018 07:51

MongerTruffle you severely miss the point.

pontiouspilates · 02/03/2018 07:55

If you are worried he will be upset about you having a pint, I'd be inclined to cancel the date and go have a pint with someone who is less of a twat.

NewPapaGuinea · 02/03/2018 09:02

I’d think “my type of girl” 😁

corythatwas · 02/03/2018 09:15

"I did say clearly it was a stereotype, but nevertheless, it is a sight you unfortunately cannot avoid in most British town-centres in a Friday or Saturday night. Other countries don't have the beer-swigging /binge drinking culture and I do wonder if the two are linked."

Nonsense. You see more staggering and vomiting in any Scandinavian city than you do here: it's because they tend towards spirits rather than beer.

As for this country, most of the staggering and vomiting will be performed by young people, who are for the most part not into beer these days, but vodka.

echt · 02/03/2018 09:18

Should I go for pints or halves?! Not normally this inedecisive but I know he likes the fact I like beer and don’t also don’t really care what he thinks - neverrheless bit paranoid I am being blokey

Make your mind up why don't you? Do you not really care or are a bit paranoid?

echt · 02/03/2018 09:23

Oh, I see. Not only your first date but also your first post.

You shouldn't really be out with anyone and alcohol when you apparently need the advice of internet randoms as to what to do.

Trills · 02/03/2018 09:35

If someone doesn't want to go to pubs with me while I drink a pint, it's best for us both that this comes up quickly.

Emoconn · 02/03/2018 17:30

I was drinking pints when I met my husband. I was actually waiting on a friend so had 2 pints and cheese and onion crisps in front of me when he came over to chat me up

mspeef · 02/03/2018 17:45

Not in Nero.

Nimmykins · 02/03/2018 18:27

Have a pint

morningconstitutional2017 · 02/03/2018 18:48

I love a nice light lager type beer myself but I'd order a half pint or a small bottle as I can't hold a big drink in my dainty little hands. I don't see why any man should have a problem with that.

simiisme · 02/03/2018 19:01

I am that woman.
First date with the bloke who is now my husband I was drinking a pint of Stella, he was drinking a V&C. When they placed the drinks on the bar, they put the V&C in front of me and the pint in front of him. He took great delight in swapping them in front of the surprised barmaid and roared with laughter.
Didn't put him off - we've been together for 21 years, married 17 of those :)

Biblio78 · 02/03/2018 19:32

The snow has sent us all back to 1960?

OrangeCrush19 · 02/03/2018 19:32

@Holly: I don’t use the term ‘girl’ for women. I don’t like being called a girl.

And I’d never use ‘girls’ night out’ or ‘girlish spa day’ - I’d just say ‘night out’ or ‘spa day’. Doesn’t need the qualification, surely??

Back to thread. I used to be a five pints a night woman. Now teetotal. Enjoy your date, OP!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 02/03/2018 19:47

Who cares??

manicmij · 02/03/2018 19:56

A lot will say you are not being blokey, you are blokey! A female ordering pints is usually treated as unusual. However if that is what you usually drink why change it for a man. He either likes you complete with pint or he doesn't.

Lottapianos · 02/03/2018 21:31

'A lot will say you are not being blokey, you are blokey! A female ordering pints is usually treated as unusual'

Absolute rubbish, on both counts.
