To not let my stupid cats freeze to death (lighthearted)

It’s -4, snow is coming down, garden is covered. I’ve told them repeatedly they can’t go outside as it’s too cold. They won’t be reasoned with and have being crying and whining by the door for half an hour.

Am I the worst cat mum ever for not letting them outside to freeze? Tempted to stick them out for 10 minutes so they see what I’m talking about.

Our youngest one who sadly passed away this summer actually went out all night in -10 and wasn't even grown up yet. There was about 1 m of snow in the garden at the time. Completely unphased. That said she also came home through the streaming rain at least twice, getting in looking like a porcupine.

-4 isn't really a problem though you might have to put up with lots of back and forth.

PixieN · 02/03/2018 14:23

Thanks @Sidge - I need to learn how to do that Grin

MrsMeow · 02/03/2018 14:35

This is my youngest last night. He's usually out at all hours bothering the local mice but think he's a bit disgruntled by the snow!

My old lady (Tortie) has hardly stepped foot out of the door. Think it's too cold for her old bones bless her.

Love all the cat pics 😻

MrsMeow · 02/03/2018 14:37

Whoops, no pic!

@RabbityMcRabbit I picked her because of that marking! I think she looks like she's got Shakespeare's ruffles 😊

Lollyb86 · 02/03/2018 16:11

zukiecat · 02/03/2018 16:25

These are my two sisters, they won't go anywhere near the snow!

IcaMorgan · 02/03/2018 18:08

Lovely cats turtle. My two in the pic are ginger and the furthest one is a tortoiseshell

Just to show her colouring

NutButter Ha that's ace! Yeah it's so worth it.. I remember my inlaws asking how much we paid, we lied and said £400.. which they then said "gosh that's a lot, do you really want to bring him back.. you can just get a cat in the UK!" Glad we didn't tell them what it really cost.. (£2500)

Doesitgoto11 · 02/03/2018 20:33

Madam has the raging hump with the snow & freezing rain, can you tell? Wink

One extremely miffed 15 year old three legged cat! Been crying for days to go out. Got a new cat flap which she can't seem to work out how to use and she just sits at it looking out and miaowing. Just opened door and placed her outside and she shot back in and looked at me as if to say are you F*king crazy and plonked herself on my lap!! Now sat on settee glaring at me but purring!!

My girl cat point blank refused to go out in the snow yesterday, I finally cracked and got the litter tray out this morning, boy cat just runs out does the business and runs back in Grin he is currently snuggled up next to me.

TheTrousersOfTime · 03/03/2018 13:47

DD age 2 wanted to make snow dens for our cats today. The three legged one actually went into his! I thought his cute little face was worthy of my first ever MN post.

My boy cat is not impressed with the weather. I wasn't impressed when he weed in dogs bed instead.

honeyroar · 03/03/2018 20:30

We've had a good few feet of snow and driving blizzards and gales, we're quite exposed in the Pennines. We've also had power cuts and spent most of our time in one room where the candles/woodburner was. The cats have been driving us mental, hurtling round, sitting staring/glaring at whoever was nearest the door.

Today it calmed to just a strong wind and stopped snowing, so we finally let the, out as the boy cat kept chasing his sister and attacking her!

I think the bugger has weed upstairs as well.

Jaxhog · 03/03/2018 20:46

We have a catflap and ours still go out, but they're back in very soon!
Us too.

Let them go out if they want too. They'll want to come in again very quickly.

catlady45 · 03/03/2018 20:50

Ive had to put litter tray out as theyre too lazy / too cold. Think theyve only been going out for a poo lol

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/03/2018 20:53

Our cat is long gone now (she didn't die from snow exposure I hasten to add!)
She was determined to go out in her first snowfall, didn't take into account the 3 steps from the catdoor and went sprawling.
Then had a pooh and pawswiped the snow to cover it ...Grin
