To not let my stupid cats freeze to death (lighthearted)

It’s -4, snow is coming down, garden is covered. I’ve told them repeatedly they can’t go outside as it’s too cold. They won’t be reasoned with and have being crying and whining by the door for half an hour.

Am I the worst cat mum ever for not letting them outside to freeze? Tempted to stick them out for 10 minutes so they see what I’m talking about.

Yeah you can let me back in now, you were right - it's cold...

Yeah I'd let them out. They'll come back in when they realise how cold it is. My cat comes and goes as he pleases and is usually roaming around outside for hours but has been under my feet constantly last few days cause he doesn't want to go out for too long

I let mine out, 13.2 seconds later she wanted back in. They'll learn fast!

Abzs · 01/03/2018 20:10

Mine went out. Took her usual tour of the flower bed to her favourite toilet spot. Then returned at speed, perched above the radiator licking her paws and tummy, and scowling out of the window.

Our garden has a network of cat tracks all beginning at the cat flap, and radiating out to all the nearest snow-free patches (under cars, under bushes, under the woodpile)

Hassled · 01/03/2018 20:12

I have one who seems to positively adore the snow - he was rolling in it earlier and has been out loads. He is quite insane though.

underneaththeash · 01/03/2018 20:12

We've had flat ears all day, which is her way of letting us know that something is NOT to her liking. Currently asleep in our bed.

My feral cat has spent the last 10 years living outside full time, with just the odd nap in the house. He has been outside for no more that 10 minutes at a time the last couple of days. He asks to go out, then realises it is still stupidly cold, and comes straight back in!

PickledLilly · 01/03/2018 20:48

Mine went out for a bit. She wasn’t much fussed about the snow, she was a bit disgruntled that none of the mice were willing to come out and be murdered.

Tinkofhousepan · 01/03/2018 20:49

Yesterday evening i had to sort an emergency litter tray out for Tinks. Caught her pooping in the sink! Such a diva. i wouldn't want to have to shit in snow either tbh

isseywithcats · 01/03/2018 20:51

yep let them out my half siamese wanted out so i let him he walked all of 12 inches and decided he had made the mistake of the year he was outside around 30 seconds

MrsCrabbyTree · 01/03/2018 23:44

Love hearing how your lovely cats behave when it is snowing. Such funny creatures aren't they?

NutButterNutter · 01/03/2018 23:55

Mine did this yesterday. I gave in, opened the door, he took one sniff and ran upstairs. Didn't ask to be lit at all today Wink

Mine has done her usual trick of running up the trunk of a tree then sitting on a branch nearest to the path and meowing plaintively when anyone passes by.
Quite often someone will knock on our door to inform me that there is a cat stuck up a tree in my garden.
She waits until she has an audience then runs back down the tree, I think she really enjoys trying to make people look foolish.

Even the snow hasn't put her off today, although I think she's been disappointed as the snow has reduced the numbers of passers by.

She hasn't stayed out as long as usual either although I'm sure she does enjoy the snow. I saw her rolling in it earlier. When she came in her undercarriage was encrusted with snow and she apparently really enjoyed a vigorous rub with a warm towel. She had some warm milk and ten minutes later was crying to go out again.

My elderly neighbour says " that cat is more mischievous than ten kids!" And I have to agree with her.

My little lady is not impressed at all and spenda all day asleep. I nudge her outside every now and then to go to loo but she just cries at the door instead Grin

DP has the pics on his phone of Old Boy (gone 2years) playing in the snow-don’t think he’d be impressed if I woke him.

Old Girl won’t leave the house between Sept and May so she not bothered by it all but does like watching it, it appears to be as much fun as shouting at the birds using neighbours bird feeders.
Even when she does go out, this is normally as far…anyone else feel like she doesn’t trust us???

pinkcandy Aww thanks! We took him in off the streets when we lived in the Middle East so not 100% on his breed, but vets have said probably just long haired domestic! Yeah his fur is purrfect for this weather!Wink
