To not let my stupid cats freeze to death (lighthearted)

It’s -4, snow is coming down, garden is covered. I’ve told them repeatedly they can’t go outside as it’s too cold. They won’t be reasoned with and have being crying and whining by the door for half an hour.

Am I the worst cat mum ever for not letting them outside to freeze? Tempted to stick them out for 10 minutes so they see what I’m talking about.

Mine made a fuss yesterday. I didn't want to let him out like you.

Did in the end- he was back in 20 mins. Went out a few times during the day - for 1 minute.

Again this morning looking to go out. 5 mins.

Now sleeping at my side.

BrendasUmbrella · 01/03/2018 09:26

Ours is always in and out, but she's refused since the snow fell. She just sits by the window and shakes every now and then to get the imaginary snow off her fur. Little wuss.

user1467976192 · 01/03/2018 09:26

Mine is not impressed he has turned his back on the window

Aww with a dear little face looking up at you that way...whatever they command Grin

AnnaMagnani · 01/03/2018 09:28

You've reminded me how one of me childhood cats made itself ill by refusing to poo as it was too cold. It was an outside poo-er only and it was fucking freezing. We took it too the vet which would have been a great occassion - angry cat stuffed in sports bag as we didn't have a cat carrier - only to be told that the cat wanted us to change the weather.

PositivelyPERF · 01/03/2018 09:30

Can I suggest that PPs make some little shelters for any strays or poor cats that owners are stupid enough to leave out overnight. Any plastic containers that can be putt on their sides, facing a sheltered area, with shredded paper, old towels, etc. A lot of the poor strays aren’t going to survive this.

lljkk · 01/03/2018 09:31

Ten minutes would be fine! Heck, I'd let mine go out for hrs if they wanted (they don't).

Cheby · 01/03/2018 09:31

Ours have been in and out of the cat flap all morning. They don’t stay out long, just long enough to have a quick wee and leap about in the snow pretending they are kittens again.

StilettosAreANoNo · 01/03/2018 09:33

Grin And you couldn’t oblige Anna??

Lol at the sports bag too Grin

Tippz · 01/03/2018 09:33

Yeah, let 'em out. Smile Only if they had never been out before, or you had just moved house (and you and they were new to the area,) would I say don't let them out.

They'll be fine. And they will soon come in, as it's freeeeeeeeezing! ❄️☃️🌨️

GrumpyOldBagFace · 01/03/2018 09:34

My old girl has been in and out about 400 times since 7am!
The younger one went out for about 20 seconds and is now under to duvet.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 01/03/2018 09:35

My two had a lovely day playing in it yesterday. Today they are glaring at it and refusing to go out. Go figure.

PaperdollCartoon · 01/03/2018 09:36

He’s got this far and is clearly unimpressed. The bit directly outside the door is covered by a sort of awning so he’s not had to go directly into the snow. The other one appears to have gone back to bed...

Ah just as I’ve posted he’s run across the garden and is scaling the perimeter at speed looking seriously fucked off

Mine has been screaming at me for an hour as her usual toilet area in the garden is covered in a foot of snow. She did attempt it but eventually conceded and used her tray. Another heavy downfall now and no sign of stopping any time soon.

Maybe he thinks next doors garden will be warm & sunny 🤣

I don’t know how you could ever say no to that wee face, he’s adorable.

dementedma · 01/03/2018 09:48

mine decided he wanted to go out at 3am.
at 7.30 this morning I opened the door to a white cat waiting to come in. he is normally black and white but too stubborn to use the many places of shelter in the garden.

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 01/03/2018 09:52

I've had to build a makeshift shelter with blankets for a neighbours cat, -5 the past 2 nights and the poor thing is left outside. My two dogs are less than impressed mind you and spend ages growling and barking at the patio door.

Loyaultemelie · 01/03/2018 09:53

Mine has decided to lie on the sofa above the radiator and make weird clicky noises at the birds eating crumbs below

Just wait till it thaws, and you find all those little piles that they have carefully buried in the snow

BertrandRussell · 01/03/2018 09:55

Let them out. They won’t freeze!

Juanbablo · 01/03/2018 09:56

Ours went out for ten minutes last night then came back and went to bed. He hasn't wanted to go out this morning but if he does I let him out and he's back pretty quickly. I'm sure your cats won't be out long!

pippitysqueakity · 01/03/2018 09:58

My cats are both very cross with me. They keep going to different windows, expecting the weather to be different there! It’s obviously my fault.

MinesABabyGuiness · 01/03/2018 10:00

Our cat had sneaked out when the DC were playing in the garden. He wasn't impressed.

Mine keeps going out to play with snowflakes then coming back in.
