Social media posts like this, why?!

"1 year ago today this little bubs came into our life, you are our world little munchkin we are so proud of you. Happy birthday! Love you to the moon and back"
#bubs1stbirthday #mummyanddaddyslittlelegend #myworld #bestie

What do you need explaining?

coffeemugged · 01/03/2018 07:41

Because they think people give a shit.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/03/2018 07:42

Maybe bubs is a fast learner and can read.

Enuffsenuffsenuff · 01/03/2018 07:42

People are thrilled with their children and sometimes express that in a cheesy way. Not sure what needs explained!

StepAwayFromGoogle · 01/03/2018 07:42

Because people think their child is the centre of everyone's universe, not just their own. We don't post anything on social media about DD. Just swipe on past.

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 07:43

The gushing is a bit OTT. A pic and a 'One today' caption is suffice really isn't it?
Maybe it's a reminder to all to send gifts. Smile

TheCatsMother44 · 01/03/2018 07:43

What do you need explaining?

Probably the fact a 1 year old can't read and isn't on social media to see the message supposedly to them.

TheHulksPurplePants · 01/03/2018 07:44

To drive you crazy. It's part of a worldwide conspiracy against you.

falang · 01/03/2018 07:44

I know what you mean OP. Why are they saying happy birthday to a child who isn't on FB and if they were they couldn't read it anyway. I don't understand the point of posts like this. Or people who post happy birthday messages to their OH. Surely you'd just say it to their face.

Rachie1973 · 01/03/2018 07:44

Because it's their social media page and they can post what they like?

No-one else has to care.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/03/2018 07:46

People are silly. I hate Facebook but use it to stay in touch with so many friends, and arrange social things etc, so can't leave it. Luckily none of my friends are as ridiculous as yours! Wink

nuttyknitter · 01/03/2018 07:46

Why do you care?!

QueenOfIce · 01/03/2018 07:46

No one cares that your little bubs is 1 today and you're SO proud of them...plus little prince can't sodding well read and also doesn't give a shit!

I’ve noticed excessive hashtags are usually when the photo has been posted on Instagram and linked to Facebook. The gushing...eh, they’re happy parents. The format is just something lots do - same as writing posts to dead relatives. All pretty obvious.

I don’t like posts like this particularly either, but just scroll on by.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/03/2018 07:47

Well I mean I could leave, but don't want to for the reasons above!

QueenOfIce · 01/03/2018 07:48

I came off fakebook a long time ago, a work colleague of mine is ranting and have to say I agree with her Grin

OP posts:
FrozenMargarita17 · 01/03/2018 07:48

It's the list of hashtags that get me! When people post with utterly ridiculous hashtags.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 01/03/2018 07:49

Don’t a lot of people just post their thoughts and feelings? I don’t think it matters if the people concerned can read them or not.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/03/2018 07:49

The unmumsy mum does ridiculous and meaningless hashtags. They get on my nerves.

MayhapsIAm · 01/03/2018 07:49

I should imagine they care that their little bubs is 1 - perhaps their family care as well and maybe their friends. The ones who don't care probably go 'oh it's bubs' birthday - I'm not really that interested' and scroll on.

What I'd like explaining is what sort of person read an innocuous yet slightly annoying birthday post for someone's birthday and then goes to another form of social media so they can sneer at them - nowt as queer as folk

This. Grin

Justanothernap · 01/03/2018 07:51

No one cares? No you don't care! There's a difference. Your example of phrasing used is a bit twee. But what do you think fb is for but sharing every day life with family & friends. If something doesn't interest you scroll on by.

I'm curious what is an acceptable post for you?

QueenOfIce · 01/03/2018 07:51

I always thought hashtags were only for Twitter, I'm out of touch apparently!

OP posts:
jesuislepp · 01/03/2018 07:53

Why does anyone do anything on Facebook? They’re just sharing a photo of their child who is 1 and that’s an important moment in someone’s life. Just as important as ‘... is traveling to’ and ‘...checked in to hotel ***’ or ‘...is eating nandos’.

Agree that writing to the baby is a bit twee but I can’t get worked up about it. Facebook is Facebook!

MsJuniper · 01/03/2018 07:53

Hashtags on Twitter were over a year ago.

The language in your sample post is cringey but I love seeing pictures of my friends' children on fb and keeping up with their progress. We have lots of family abroad who use fb for this purpose too.
