This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

Yes speak that is my point. My friend realised why we shut down i was responding to those who have international friends who dont get it

FairfaxAikman · 01/03/2018 09:19

It's different snow here compared to Canada and the continent though.
As an island nation we get a lot of maritime weather, meaning our show is wetter rather than powdery.

GlitterGlassEye · 01/03/2018 09:19

Glasgow is really bad, the worst ever since time began I think. When snow is forecast, we usually get very little so everything has basically came to a standstill. This has never happened before so tell me why the fuck we should all spend money on snow tyres etc?

We would all be prepared if it was a regular occurrence.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 01/03/2018 09:22

Must go and do some panic shopping,if we're going to be snowed in I need wine for mulling!Might get milk as well.

PilatesSuck · 01/03/2018 09:25

My friend is from Canada. She was asking where are snow chains? Where are the plows when she came over. Once she realised there were none she realised why the roads are so bad...

She used to rip the piss. After being stuck in the bad couple of days we had a few years back she no longer does. She gets it now.

PilatesSuck · 01/03/2018 09:26

Onlyoldontheoutside dont be ridiculous...milk...seriously?? Wink wine all the way. And cheese

Frazzled2207 · 01/03/2018 09:32

Round here (greater manchester) we have a bit of snow but seriously windy and so cold that the roads are very dangerous so I don't think schools are overreacting at all by being closed.

Fontella · 01/03/2018 09:53

Still no snow here.

According to all the forecasts it should have been light snow from around 7am until noon when it would become heavy. Now almost 10am and so far nothing?

The80sweregreat · 01/03/2018 09:58

i am worried about ds1 who had to drive to Croydon for work today- he got there okay but its bad here in essex, so getting back might be a mare. its just snowing and snowing and no let up at all.

Ditto what Glitter said. I've lived in Scotland for 23 years, first Paisley, now Glasgow, and I've never seen snow anything like this before. There must be about 7 or 8 inches out there in places. It's pretty much unprecedented in these parts.

Fruitcocktail6 · 01/03/2018 11:14

I'm in Berkshire and it's lovely here. Not too deep but i wouldn't want to be driving. I also work in a school and we're closed today and tomorrow Grin I was off sick with pregnancy sickness Monday and Tuesday so I've had a one day week! I'm still in bed, totally calm. Haven't done a panic shop or anything.

DrewBerry95 · 01/03/2018 11:15

I too was a bit Hmm over all the fuss.

But as a country, I think we need to remember that our snow falls are indeed quite pathetic compared to the likes of Canada but we don't have the resources and means to deal with it like Canada do either.

We are completely unprepared.

RaymondinaReddington · 01/03/2018 11:32

Bottom line is that most places in the uk rarely get this sort of weather and individuals (plus support services) are not set up to deal with it. It is up individuals to assess whether it is reasonable to do their normal / planned activities.
There is so much judging and sanctimony about this. Having skidded my car several times in the last week on country roads I’m doing what I should’ve done in the first place and making my own decisions.

Kaykay06 · 01/03/2018 11:41

I’m in Stirling, so last snow comparable to this was 2010, roads are terrible, schools are all closed the whole town centre has been shut down, local shop is closed motorways south are closed and I’m guessing a9 isn’t great and more snow to come. I’m a nurse kids dad is police so have to try to get to work in this. So not really wanting to calm the fuck down, it may not be this bad where you are op but here it’s pretty horrible. Worrying about trying to get to work and back, if day shift will arrive to let us go, if we can get back again to our families. My sister is snowed in pregnant in East Kilbride, mum in Norwich so not great.

Roll on spring had enough of this now

ItsNachoCheese · 01/03/2018 12:36

kaykay06 im in alloa and its just as bad here. Theres 6ft of snow at points in tullibody due to drifting. Ive just braved walking to the coop beside me and it took a good 15mins. Usually takes 5mins. Ive never seen snow like it since 2010

Clarissalarissa · 01/03/2018 12:42

In Scotland - fair enough to shut schools. But in Cornwall, with scarcely any snow at all?!!

BrrImBloodyFreezing · 01/03/2018 12:45

Clarissa, are you actually in Cornwall? And you do realise it's not just a case of getting the kids to school in the morning with a light dusting of snow, it's getting them home again in the afternoon as the blizzard actually sets in properly?

www.piratefm.co.uk/news/latest-news/2516520/photos-cornwalls-snow-day-as-you-pictured-it/

When you have snow on the beach, you know it's damn cold.

PortiaCastis · 01/03/2018 12:56

Im also in Cornwall and yes we do have snow and yes schools are closed and the roads aren't that good either

The80sweregreat · 01/03/2018 13:12

Red alert for Devon from 3 pm they said just now on tv.

Clarissalarissa · 01/03/2018 13:24

Not in Cornwall. but friend in Cornwall has just told me there is a light dusting of snow. Due to snow in the afternoon apparently, but to the extent that can't stay in school till 3.30? And they shut mid morning yesterday, despite only a dusting of snow and no more snow until this afternoon? It's frozen raindrops., not toxic waste falling from the sky.

Lovemusic33 · 01/03/2018 13:27

Schools here are the same, it’s just started snowing now but kids were told not to come in this morning. We only have a dusting but are on the edge of the red warning for 3pm.

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2018 15:52

still no snow here and its nearly 4pm

speakout · 01/03/2018 15:55

We are unable to leave the house- totally snowed in.

mikeyssister · 01/03/2018 15:58

Ireland is now closed down. There's constant weather forecasts with out door broadcasts talking about how cold it is and how bad it is, but with feck all snow or wind. All schools and third levels closed yesterday and until Monday, all government offices closed until Monday. No buses, trains off.

It's cold but not the end of the world. We basically have curfews from 4pm today until 3pm tomorrow. Apparently there's up to 40cm of snow forecast but yesterday everyone was getting hysterical over 8 cm.

There saying it's "suicidal" to go out once Emma hits. It's absolute madness.
