This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

Depends where you are. There are red warnings in place in some areas. Which mean the weather is a risk to life. A certain amount of reaction is sensible to prevent this. School closures are a very low level reaction I’d say. Funny that this is what you picked as an example.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/02/2018 19:44

Thing is, we’ve had a little snow and the road outside our house is clear, so I thought mountain out of a m9lehill, but I drove a couple of miles down the road it was impassable. It’s not always obvious.

hazeyjane · 28/02/2018 19:45

Well they are trying to have a plan.....a lack of which is the thing that normally gets everyone moaning when it snows.

BelovedMutant · 28/02/2018 19:45

We have loads of snow, life is normal apart from the post who hasnt near all weekHmm

Oysterbabe · 28/02/2018 19:45

Where do you live?

LondonHereICome · 28/02/2018 19:46

It's not the snow which is the problem but more the resulting ice

Namechangedtoscream · 28/02/2018 19:46

We have pretty deep snow here but the roads are clear and I'm not understanding the fuss people are making. Leave in enough time, don't drive like a dick, jobs done.

WoofWoofMooWoof · 28/02/2018 19:46

Here we've had many many inches of snow (in an area that hardly ever gets snow). Very hilly. Schools are closed because people quite literally cannot get to them. I tried to get my car out of my drive, and instead of going forward, it would only go sideways. So people are staying in. No panic, just necessity and common sense.

MyKingdomForBrie · 28/02/2018 19:46

There’s always something about being told to calm down that I find so enraging though.. Grin

ghostyslovesheets · 28/02/2018 19:46

well in Scotland they have warned the snow may be a threat to life so yabu I think

OutyMcOutface · 28/02/2018 19:47

We've had very little snow butthe roads are treacherous. Somehow when most people who live in a certain area are idiots on the roads at the best of times and it snows all sense flies out the window.

LondonHereICome · 28/02/2018 19:47

mamechange those 'clear' roads won't stay that way though

nancy75 · 28/02/2018 19:47

We’ve had quite a bit of snow, I work in a job where everything we do has to be cancelled when it snows so for me it is a nightmare!

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 28/02/2018 19:47

Well it’s somewhat unusual so no surprise everyone is so excited.

Good to see you so calm and superior though. How’s the view from up there?

Namechangedtoscream · 28/02/2018 19:48

The gritters are going out regularly enough so I can't see why they can't stay as clear as is possible to be in the weather we've got.

MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 19:49

I live between Wiltshire & Hampshire and there has been no snow all day. 20 minutes of snow yesterday so some leftovers from that lying around but it's very very sparse. I'm from the North of Scotland and just can't believe the fuss. I get that it's severe in other places but there's been virtually no snow here.

Appuskidu · 28/02/2018 19:50

It’s the snow drifts and compacted ice that are causing problems here.

Elabear · 28/02/2018 19:50

I think yabu actually. There's not much snow here at the moment but the local authority along with the other nearby ones have decided to close all schools for the rest of the week. This is the first time they've closed in advance like this.

Plenty of disabled and elderly people rely on home carers who are unlikely to be able to make the usual house calls tomorrow.

Emergency services and health care staff will no doubt have to work longer shifts until their colleagues can get in.

Many people won't be able to get into work due to the weather or childcare issues and face losing 2 days pay when they're already struggling.

The rising number of homeless are at real risk of developing hyperthermia and freezing to death.

I don't think they need to calm the fuck down I think you need to wise the fuck up.

Be greatful you're unaffected by the possibility of snow op, plenty of others aren't so lucky.

LittleMe03 · 28/02/2018 19:52

Well just depends where you are and how bad the snow is...

MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 19:52

I'm only saying the reaction where I live has been excessive with regards to telling people to stay off on Friday and talking about school closures when we're not even expecting anything major here.

With regards to the elderly and homeless in these freezing conditions, that's a completely separate issue and one that is of vital importance throughout the winter.

OP posts:
MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 19:53

Well just depends where you are and how bad the snow is...

Exactly. There's virtually none here. It's more like frost on the ground than snow.

Rural Sweden here but live on the main road in a village, it started snowing on 12th November and I have not seen the ground since. We have had to hire a tractor to dig us out twice. Last night it went down to -25 although tonight its -17. When I called my mum in Sussex yesterday, she was happy as it was the first time her four year old cat had seen snow. She's in her 80s but she still indulged in a bit of panic buying though.

hazeyjane · 28/02/2018 19:56

I'm in Wiltshire. The snow that fell last night caused a bit of chaos on the roads as it was a time when lots of people were travelling, and it was unexpected and a lot fell very quickly. The forecast is saying snow from tomorrow, and all the way through Friday, with ice, so it seems sensible to be prepared.

Autumnchill · 28/02/2018 19:56

On NE coast and after setting off for work this morning I made it less than 3 miles and it took 3hrs. It's pretty bad here, not the worse I've seen but not sure I'll get the car out the road in the morning
