This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

But again, the worry is about tomorrow. It was never forecast to be any sooner, not by the Met Office. There *will be*snow. And it doesn't happen down here so councils are frankly shite at dealing with it.

Glassofredandapackofcrisps · 28/02/2018 21:10

Can't speak for everyone but I'm in saddleworth near Oldham lots of hills and moorland we just get on with it. Used to live in London and the comparison is ridiculous

kalapattar · 28/02/2018 21:12

So maybe if you do make it in and very few others do, you might be entitled to some small bonus

I could have made it in today. But DS's school was shut. So that's why I couldn't have made it in.

kalapattar · 28/02/2018 21:13

Got to admit the idea of going over the M62 in the dark in a blizzard is not my idea of fun.

whatalifethisis · 28/02/2018 21:14

I'm in Kent, I can't get my car on to the main road because I live at the end of a very long cul de sac which is downhill. Nobody can get their cars out.

The train timetable is completely shot to pieces. My partner is having to get up at 4.00am to take 3 trains to work as he has just started a new job and doesn't want to be seen as being unreliable.

I have a long commute to work and am trying to manage a community service with workers trying their best to get to vulnerable people to see that they are ok.

So why do you take your sanctimonious twaddle and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

The80sweregreat · 28/02/2018 21:14

I hate it as I am scared of driving the hour to see my poor old dad. He is ok and has carers going in but I would rather I could go to help him and get him some shopping as I do normally 3 tines a week. I’m anxious about it but it’s out of my control. Im glad I’m not in the red zone however - I do not remember a winter like this ever and I’m 53. It’s awful and I usually prefer colder weather. Not like this though

VileyRose · 28/02/2018 21:15

I believe Hampshire will have a heavy snowfall tomorrow so it makes sense.

Lweji · 28/02/2018 21:17

The bad weather forecast is from tomorrow, so posting no snow today is not funny. Just silly.

PumpkinPie2016 · 28/02/2018 21:17

I am in the North West and s have had it pretty bad here. I teach and my school was open yesterday - I have 4x4 and snow tyres so manage fine. Today, the roads were really awful - I got to school but then they closed so I had to go home.

I live on a steep, narrow lane and it was drifting earlier so I have parked my car at the bottom, half a mile away, and will walk to it in the morning.

So, certainly where I am, people are doing their best to get to schools/work etc but the conditions on roads, amount of snow/drifts and the fact that some card just don't do well in snow mean it's not always possible!

I wish I knew either way whether my school was opening tomorrow as I would like to avoid an unecessary journey but they won't decide until tomorrow Sad

notmyredditusername365 · 28/02/2018 21:18

My husband probably won't be able to work tomorrow because of the snow. He is self employed and that will cost us £600 as a family. So, yes, it is quite inconvenient for us thank you very much.

And for people who've had scheduled operations cancelled and who will be in pain as a result - that is horribly inconvenient! Doesn't take a great deal of imagination to see how a little bit of snow can have a major impact.

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 21:18

I remember my late dad being a red zone once, some years ago, and I was outside it and it was bloody awful, as he was quite frail. I feel quite tearful just thinking about it.

BrrImBloodyFreezing · 28/02/2018 21:18

My dad's in the Pennines, and he said the main road was very slow moving and the side roads were impassable so it wasn't good up where he is.

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 21:19

And yes, to the OP - forecasts??

dementedma · 28/02/2018 21:21

slap bang in the middle of the red zone in Scotland here. So far it hasn't been much worse than previous years, other than it's a bit windier and lower temps. have had heavier snow falls before.
We shall see what it is like tomorrow

kalapattar · 28/02/2018 21:21

Snow and 40 mile an hour winds tomorrow. That's not a good combination

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/02/2018 21:23

NE England here , heavy snow and thunder snow (exciting).
Gritters have done a great job but sadly trucks jacknifing , transporters falling over , rear wheel drives struggling has made some journeys epic . 5 hours to and from work yesterday and today for a usual 25 minute journey but I ate all my snacks 😂.
What really pissed me off was relatives elsewhere with no snow getting snow days and we got none !!

2boysnamedR · 28/02/2018 21:24

It’s not laid more than 1cm here all week.

My friend cancelled dinner on Monday night, school is closing early tomorrow, parents evening is cancelled. Talk of closing school for the rest of the week.

I repeat, it’s not laid!

If it did lay I expect no less than total civil unrest, looting and zombie apocalypse or I’m going to be extremely let down.

I have seen over a foot of snow in the south of UK in my life. It happens. No need to presume the uk will perish and school kids will implode on contact with it.

I hope I wake to a blizzard then I will eat my words. It’s bad in Kent, I understand schools closing there but here? Pffftt....

Lovemusic33 · 28/02/2018 21:24

Mumbo I’m not far from you, I bit more west. We haven’t had any snow yet but the school have already decided to not open tomorrow or Friday. We are forecast snow for tomorrow afternoon. People are going crazy buying bread and milk when we might not get much snow and it should be gone by Saturday when it turns to rain.

The80sweregreat · 28/02/2018 21:24

It’s just caused so much disruption.
I just want it gone-but the forecasts are not looking good.

WowIFreelStrange · 28/02/2018 21:25

It's about a foot and half here.. When I open the front door it falls in :/ and it's still snowing fast..

SomewhereontheM6 · 28/02/2018 21:30

FFS. This is the hysteria! So the fact that even though there is no snow we should all panic because "it's coming" Even though it's not expected to be heavy or last any length of time. Don't think it's Op bring silly.

And that the majority of people live in urban areas so will be within walking distance of a shop/ garage etc.

MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 21:30

Lovemusic33 exactly! It feels like we’re just jumping on the bandwagon because other parts of the country have it worse.

I live in dublin bad snow today schools closed. I did try to get to work but cars skidding everywhere and getting stuck on inclines so turned back. We have a red weather alert here until midday friday. The main concern is storm emma which will bring blizzard conditions we have been advised by our government to not be out after 4pm tomorrow until midday friday they are taking it very seriously. Better safe then sorry

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 21:33

I think the concept of weather forecasting might have passed you by, OP.
