To tell everyone to calm the fuck down?

This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

Exactly PN But ppl in the UK keep voting for lower taxes.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/02/2018 20:53

If there is snow, then maybe I could understand it. But there isn't a lot here.

Still, how do they manage in France, and Germany and so on?
Why do we fall apart at the smallest obstacle?

SaucyJack · 28/02/2018 20:53

"When I called my mum in Sussex yesterday, she was happy as it was the first time her four year old cat had seen snow."

Aw

PNGirl · 28/02/2018 20:53

In Japan they have actual heated streets.

PussGirl · 28/02/2018 20:53

I work in the North East, in healthcare, so I got up at 5.30 rather than 6.30, sorted the cats, de-snowed the car & drove to work.

Yes it was snowy, yes it was slippery (but perfectly okay to drive in with care) & annoyingly some arse of a taxi-driver kept getting too close up my back end (I wasn't dawdling). I arrived early (even earlier than usual)

Coming home at 5 was a doddle - very little on the roads.

Health care workers are expected to get themselves in, so we do. One of my colleagues was thwarted though, but she lives on an isolated farm, so fair enough - she was embarrassed not to have made it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/02/2018 20:54

Oh please.....

There is no snow here, and no trains for whatever reason.

I'm not selfish, I need to get to work, I'm not out to get my nails done.

ginandnappies · 28/02/2018 20:54

YABU. Just because the snow isn't bad where you are. We have had a extreme amount today, my neighbour had a bad car accident yesterday and shops around us are all closed.

MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 20:56

Oh my word!! I’m not oblivious to what’s going on elsewhere. It’s horendous in other parts of the country. Im simply referring to where I am and where I am, there have been numerous weather warnings and so far nothing has materialised, yet there is utter hysteria.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/02/2018 20:57

And I'm selfish because I spent hours waiting and freezing my arse of waiting for the trains?

You don't know what I do for a living and why I have to go to work.

Lay off.

speakout · 28/02/2018 20:57

I’m not saying everyone should calm down. Just the people in the town I’m in.

OP Then why are you moaning on a UK wide chat site?

Lweji · 28/02/2018 20:57

I’m not saying everyone should calm down.

Your title:
To tell everyone to calm the fuck down?

Anyway... I'd say it's best to be prepared. Remember the big Michael Fish Storm? Maybe not. It was 30 years ago.

HelenaDove · 28/02/2018 20:57

"im not out to get my nails done"

"shops are all closed"

does still impact on the local economy. If the powers that be dont want to invest in the infrastructure then the economy will have to take the hit.

Cant have it both ways.

user1474652148 · 28/02/2018 20:57

It makes a blessed change from the hysteria around Brexit 🤩

Fontella · 28/02/2018 20:58

I understand perfectly what you meant MumboJumboo.

kaytee87 · 28/02/2018 20:58

Red warning where i am, at least a foot of snow outside and more to fall overnight. All schools, nurseries, libraries, leisure centres, community halls etc shut and will stay closed tomorrow. Even private nurseries, pubs, restaurants and shops are closed. All public transport off, courts closed early and will open late tomorrow (if at all).
Dh will miss 2 days of work this week (presuming Friday is ok) losing £800 as he's self employed.

We're definitely not over reacting where we live.

Lweji · 28/02/2018 20:58

There is no snow here, and no trains for whatever reason.

Maybe there is along the line?

wysteriafloribunba · 28/02/2018 20:59

We have been snowed in since Monday night, and given a lot more snow is due over the next 2 days will probably remain so until the weekend. It isn't a problem as we had plenty of groceries and logs in. Where we are only the main roads are cleared and gritted. The side roads are impassable, thick compacted snow, abandonned vehicles and lots of ice.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/02/2018 21:01

No, along the line is in Greater London. There was no snow along the lines when they cancelled the trains.

Rainboho · 28/02/2018 21:01

Maybe a better title would have been ‘To tell everyone in Wiltshire to calm the fuck down’.

tinkywinky2018 · 28/02/2018 21:01

My DF's office in Dublin has closed for the next 2 days because apparently it will be "near suicidal" to be outdoors from tomorrow afternoon

Have you seen the forecast for tomorrow afternoon in Dublin? its bad enough now!

MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 21:01

Thank you Fontella!

To the poster who’s wondering why I’m “moaning on a UK site”. I actually thought my post would have been funny, with the picture attached with the lack of snow. People moan about there neighbours on here. You don’t have to be complaining about the whole of the UK just because it’s a UK wide site.

I'm in the North East. Loads of snow today (even thundersnow!). Schools are closed today and tomorrow. This is the view out of my window this afternoon.

To tell everyone to calm the fuck down?
Clarissalarissa · 28/02/2018 21:03

The school shut at 11 and is shut tomorrow - a very thin covering of snow. Madness.

mommybunny · 28/02/2018 21:04

So as a childless person who lives too close to work to have an excuse not to go in tomorrow, I’m already fairly grumpy about it. Mainly because it’s the busiest time of year in my job and we’re already understaffed. With all the people who can’t come in because of the snow (whether due to childcare or transport) it’s going to be hellish for those of us who have no choice but to struggle in. I’m not risking life and limb or anything, but I have a 20 minute walk in the freezing snow and then delayed or cancelled trains to look forward to.

The snowstorm I walked up 5th Avenue I was in a similar condition to you, Glumglowworm - childless, able to get to the office so required to get to the office because the office couldn't/wouldn't close (I worked for a bank, and the Federal Reserve couldn't just close all the banks because of a snowstorm in New York). I lived in Hoboken and my trains oddly enough were running from New Jersey but the NY MTA subway trains weren't, so I had to walk from Herald Square uptown. By noon the Fed had decided that the banks could close early so we were all let go and I made my way home. Those of us who had made it into the office (if you lived in the suburbs you didn't stand a chance in hell) at all that day got an extra day's holiday that year!

So maybe if you do make it in and very few others do, you might be entitled to some small bonus?

MumboJumboo · 28/02/2018 21:04

Rainboho yes, I think you’re right on reflection.

My post was about the fact that where I live there is no snow and everyone here’s got their knickers in a twist, so I was asking if it would be unreasonable for me to tell everyone to calm down. I assumed people would know I was referring to the people where I live.
