Those who research your previous threads on mumsnet so that they can have ammunition to slag you off? Weird and stalkerish.

OP posts:
LineysHorseWithNoName · 26/02/2018 19:35

I think actively following people around threads is a bit odd and unnecessary.

frasier · 26/02/2018 19:36

Someone thinks “it’s a bit sick”??!!

Hahaha! There goes someone who has been caught out!

It’s a search engine not a perverted hobby!

sleepyhead25 · 26/02/2018 19:36

I have now changed my username as this happened to me had to give my life story to get them to shut up.
Anyway who has the time do that? Do people not have work, kids to look after etc.

@Sleepyhead25 Ditto. The only thing with a name change, is the way I right is so obvious, I'm not sure there's much point.

LineysHorseWithNoName · 26/02/2018 19:45

How can people spot the writing style of one of many thousands of posters on MN when they name change? It does impress me.

I've only managed it once, and that was more the subject matter than the phraseology and parsing ooh hark at me

But then again, I am the supreme menopausal old bag and my brain's gone.

PiffIeandWiffIe · 26/02/2018 19:48

There are a lot of good people on MN.

There are also a lot of people with far too much time on their hands.

Sad, malignant twats who have nothing to do between "Homes Under The Hammer" and "Bargain Hunt" apart from hunch over a keyboard "following" people......

They like to pretend they're "doing a service by Troll Hunting" but really they're just overcompensating for a lack of general meaning in their dull, bland lives......

Thankfully MN allows people to NC easily so it makes it a bit harder for them.

thecatfromjapan · 26/02/2018 19:48

@Liney I'm crap at that, too. I studied English Lit, too, so I always feel really guilty that I can't spot people. I've managed a few times, with close MN friends - but as a rule, no.

I have a friend who is an utter genius at it, though.

Frusso · 26/02/2018 19:54

I do AS OPs occasionally, but it's either when the post gets my troll senses tingling, or when I think I'm sure I've read this before.

I don't go information gathering, a general normal poster and I don't bother, but sometimes you get OPs that repeatedly ask for the same advice (i remember previous thread) but don't like the advice/answers they're given so flounce, then come back 2-3 weeks (or sometimes months) later and ask the same thing.

There are two particular infrequent posters that do this on a couple of the less frequented boards.

Ickyockycocky · 26/02/2018 19:59

I really couldn't be bothered.

McDougalMcPhee · 26/02/2018 20:00

surely you only search and mention it if the previous posts are completely contradictory?

Posts OH is cheating on me and we have 3 DC and living in rented accom, but you have a vague recollection of the same poster being an OW with no kids living in their mansion with no mortgage...? at this point i would put the user name in the search and either report or mention it - if they've gone from 3 dc to 2 dc.... not really a problem...

Pengggwn · 26/02/2018 20:01

Aridane

Yes.

C8H10N4O2 · 26/02/2018 20:03

@thecatfromjapan @paxillin

If you mean Let's Evolve by Sudden Sway (which is the one I remember on John Peel) - I have that song in the detritus of my youth. Its on YouTube you know Grin

LineysHorseWithNoName · 26/02/2018 20:04

catfromjapan maybe there's an app for it, for the crazy kids.

LineysHorseWithNoName · 26/02/2018 20:05

That amoeba frock is superb, btw.

MaisyPops · 26/02/2018 20:05

The “stalker” label is just used by people who get caught out to try and blame the person who found their crap!
Depends. I think people on here cab be really odd about info.

Recently I shared something with bits kept out (obviously because they were irrelevant) and all I got was lots of requests for info (which i said there was a limit on what i was willing to say) and was also told why what I had said was wrong in my situation because obviously people with an anonymised account know it all. I then said multiple times I'm not explaining every detail but was still told I was wrong. I know the situation. And still people were obsessed with telling me that my knowledge of a sitiation was wrong.

That was one situation on one thread. It was infuriating and even expressing that didn't stop the stupid 'but you don't know your own situation'.

I can imagine if people do share more details of their personal life and try to keep parts vague it must be bloody irritating to have people act like arm chair detectives with nothing better to do.

CotswoldStrife · 26/02/2018 20:11

There are a few posters who continually post the same stuff with an attempt to spin it to get the responses they want though. Never giving the full story because they know they will look bad if they do. They tend to stand out to me because they are recognisable, rather than advance searching.

I am constantly surprised that more people don't read between the lines!

thecatfromjapan · 26/02/2018 20:13

@C8H10N4O2 Shock Good spot!

@Liney There was a poster who said s/he'd developed a program to perform a limited function doing just that. Had rustled it up for fun. I was quite impressed.

nakedscientist · 26/02/2018 20:14

ThecatfromJapan
I must confess I love you! I love DB and now you mentioned Let's Evolve!
I used to hear that on John Peel too, what a great memory

thecatfromjapan · 26/02/2018 20:20
Grin

I see an Amoeba/Let's Evolve conversation evolving buried deep in the entrails of a completely different conversation.

If it's there why not use it ?

RoseWhiteTips · 26/02/2018 20:23

YANBU. It is a creepy thing to do.

peachgreen · 26/02/2018 20:23

I think sometimes it's very useful in order to get the full story when a poster is trying to twist or obfuscate the truth. For example there's a poster who always talks about her DP and her parents having fallen out and everyone always takes her parents' side because she paints her DP as the bad guy, but actually her parents are unrepentant, unmitigated assholes who essentially defrauded her DP and now attempt to turn her and their children against him.

frasier · 26/02/2018 20:26

"Bullying? Creepy? Sick? Unfair?"

LOL!

If you are embarrassed about stuff you have posted in the past, don't blame the searcher, just stop being a fool on a messageboard or own your crap.
