Please judge my dds dinner

My dd (3) is miserable today she's been to the Dr's for inoculations my dh is away for the next week and I'm home alone.

She's requested a fish pie for dinner so I've bought a frozen one which she will have with carrots peas and broccoli as I'm eating later as a friend is coming around

My sil thinks this is an appalling dinner for a growing child as its pre made, full of salt and additives and if you listen to her hysteria i may as well be offering dd class a narcotics

I cook everything from scratch and its a rare occasion we have frozen beige food and 28 days out of 30 we eat a varied diet so I don't think it's that bad. Sil thinks I should have a freezer full of home made delights ready to feed dd on the occasions she eats alone (again we eat as a family around the table the majority of the time)

So is fish pie and veggies really that bad for my dd?

Just tell her you ran out of turkey twizzlers so had to give her the fish pie. But don't worry, she'll be having a can of red bull to provide extra vitamins.

martellandginger · 26/02/2018 17:14

It’s fine. There’s probably more salt in humus and carrot dip or pesto and nugget dinner.

Everyone saying it’s fine once in a while does my head in. Add up the salt in all the supposedly healthy food and i bet it’s less than a frozen fish pie.

WorraLiberty · 26/02/2018 17:16

Your daughter is 3 though

You must know it's ok to feed her the odd frozen fish pie with veg??

WhiparoundandSpin · 26/02/2018 17:16

School closed today so we have slummed it. Lots of toast and jam, some porridge, biscuits, sandwiches and some yogurt and fruit. Letting the kids pretty much have a pick want u want day

That sounds pretty normal?

Nicpem1982 · 26/02/2018 17:19

Worral it's the first time she's had one frozen ready meals aren't marketed at children I don't think I couldn't find kids ones

My kids had honey cheerios for dinner today as the gas for cooking was gone and I was waiting on a tesco delivery so had nothing I could zap in the microwave. Tell your SIL to feck off.

RebelRogue · 26/02/2018 17:21

DD gets a frozen fish pie more often than that and no veg. Meh...

Adoodoobydoo · 26/02/2018 17:23

If my dd ate that I'd be over the moon.

Blinkyblink · 26/02/2018 17:23

YANBU to serve that dinner to your daughter

YABVVU to post such banal drivel when you knew the answer full well.

RebelRogue · 26/02/2018 17:24

@Adoodoobydoo the first time DD ate a happy meal I cried tears of joy.Grin She actually ate something!!

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 26/02/2018 17:24

Nicpem1982 · 26/02/2018 17:25

The food is fine but did you really need to ask?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/02/2018 17:29

OP, you're probably fairly certain that you're not going to get a YABU.

The dinner is obviously fine and you'll just get a ton of 'you are right and your SiL is a bloody idiot' type comments.

Job done?

Really?

Total codswallop.

It’s not her business what you feed your kid. As long as you feed them and they are healthy it doesn’t matter.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 26/02/2018 17:41

Tell SIL to fuck off. Else she can come and make a meal from scratch if she is so concerned. I will never understand people who are so concerned about other peoples lives and stick their noses in tbh.

I was going to say the odd processed meal will not kill them, then I remembered that a few meals per week my kids have stuff like this, so I change that to..as long as they have some healthy food its fine IMO. Fuck making everything fresh everyday with everything else that childcare requires. I admire people who DO do this, but I am not one of them.

Turquoise123 · 26/02/2018 17:42

SIL clearly does not have enough to do in her life. Do you have any ironing she could get on with or maybe kitchen floor needs a wash ?

gussyfinknottle · 26/02/2018 17:43

Tell your sil that a random on the internet, who grows her own organic veg and is actually considering whether she can feasibly grow grain to make her own flour to make her own bread, thinks ready meals are fine when you need them. The clue is in the name. Just put a ready made pie in the oven and will have ready made chips and frozen sweet corn. It's been that kind of day in our house.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/02/2018 17:43

It's food and she's happy.

neveradullmoment99 · 26/02/2018 17:45

I think you are doing pretty well. My children wouldn't touch a fish pie. Nothing wrong with what your serving. What's it got to do with her anyway?

Nicpem1982 · 26/02/2018 17:46

That's really made me laugh

Nicpem1982 · 26/02/2018 17:48

Turquoise - she's not close enough to take my ironing and mil does a lot of it when I'm at work.

Gussy - are you really growing your own grain? Wow that's really good.

Deshasafraisy · 26/02/2018 17:49

The issue isn’t really “is this meal ok” because you know it’s fine to have the odd unhealthy meal when her diet is mostly great.
The issue is your SIL serving you a big plate of judgemental shit and it is this which is unpalatable.
Tell her to shut her pie hole
