What jobs would you not want your kids to do?

I saw someone say on the other thread jobs they wouldn't want their kids to do there are jobs they wouldn't want their kids to do so thought I would start a thread on it

For me - I wouldnt want my kids to become reality TV stars - especially big brother stars

Teacher. Bitter experience.

Soldier

Police officer. Also from experience

My dh has just left the police so he’s adamant he doesn’t want any of our children to ever join

Drugs and alcohol practitioner

One where his life would be in danger

Most retail jobs. Long hours, on feet all day and having to deal with rude customers.

Teacher (my job).
Dangerous - police officer, soldier

Banking, venture capitalist, lawyer. Any of those jobs where you sell your soul for the money and wear suits and mix with a bunch of right wing wankers.

My DC are quite bright (at the moment!) so I’d be a bit disappointed if they ended up in careers that don’t need them to problem solve or use their intelligence in some form. I’d be worried they would get bored.

It’s their decision though.

Or selfishly, anything which might endanger their lives as a standard part of the job.

Probably anything which resulted in celebrity type fame.

Not really answering your question. But I had a patient who was discussing in front of me with her DD what she wanted to be when she was older.

I piped up and said, ooh you could do what I do (a sonographer) and the mum turned her nose up and semi laughed. She said no, she thinks her DD could do 'more' (paraphrasing as I can't remember actual words)

Minimum wage, no way to advance, anything that they hated.

Anything where they were demeaned or treat like shit. Anything they couldnt say "Im a ......" to people. Anything they morally disagreed with.

Id like to hope they have choices and aspirations and maintain their current levels of zest for learning and workibg hard.

Any job where they could harm themselves or another person.

The sex industry or the army would be the main ones. Only because I've seen how psycologically damaged people can be when they leave.

Wow how rude of her Lilone. I’ve certainly had parents frightened of their child took my subject further they could end up a teacher like me! I wouldn’t want it for my D.C. because of workload/stress/pay but several of those parents thought it was too low status for their child (as did my own DF to be fair).

Agree with notmyreddit - I want my DC to be well off enough not to worry but I don’t want him to become someone I don’t know/has totally different values by entering a profession that tends to change them like big corporate law or banking.

Just out of curiosity why do people not want their kids to be a sex worker? Might seem a stupid question just currently doing a module on counselling and forensic psychology and sex workers rights are a topic...gist is sex workers want decriminlisation and unionization..sex work is work ect....

retail - believe it or not people who work in a shop aren't actually there for you to inflict your shitty mood on, and you can get as high and mighty as you like but i can see your address on my system and my house is bigger than yours anyway you twat of a snob (what do you mean was it a rough week?)

also military for obvious reasons of potential death, and "sex work" for equally obvious reasons

largely though not bothered as long as they earn enough to live comfortably and are enjoying themselves for the most part

Armed forces, although one of my DCs wants to be a pilot and I think he might end up going down the RAF route. If it's his choice I will support him but I won't be happy about it.

To be honest I'd come to terms with pretty much any job they'd choose but not something in which they would be stuck - minimum wage, low skills, etc. I'd like it if they choose a profession that has some prospects of progression and offers job satisfaction.

Except the sex industry of course. That would be awful.

Opposite to some her, I'd be very proud if they'd choose the teaching profession - DH is a primary school teacher and loves his job. Same with NHS/Doctor/Nurse I'd be very proud.
