I saw someone say on the other thread jobs they wouldn't want their kids to do there are jobs they wouldn't want their kids to do so thought I would start a thread on it

For me - I wouldnt want my kids to become reality TV stars - especially big brother stars

oh, moomin, just because i know my daughter's worth to be more than being a fuck hole for inadequate losers, really

formerbabe · 25/02/2018 11:35

I wouldn't worry too much anyway. By the time our DC are of working age, most jobs will be obsolete. Replaced by robots. I doubt there will be any retail jobs.

Love51 · 25/02/2018 11:36

Sex work, performer, army / military, teaching, nursing. (Coz it is under resourced and stressful - huge respect to all nurses! And I've been a teacher - kids need to make their own mistakes and not repeat mine!)
One of them wants to be an astronaut so I might have to suck it up as the military is the clearest route to that.

starbrightnight · 25/02/2018 11:37

Be one of those Lawyers that take on the cases where people are just in it to make money - ambulance chasers, I think they're called, where they exploit people who are vulnerable.

beluga425 · 25/02/2018 11:37

Teacher (unless things change drastically)
Anything too dangerous
Anything that makes her unhappy or feel trapped or unfulfilled

NotAgainYoda · 25/02/2018 11:38

Anything that they hated, or that compromised their sense of right and wrong. Not my sense of right and wrong

ClaryFray · 25/02/2018 11:40

Any job within the prison service. Experience. My DF and I teach at a youth estate. Not the job I'd want for D.C.

ssd · 25/02/2018 11:40

my job, a job you are far too good for but you have to do as you need the money

NotAgainYoda · 25/02/2018 11:41

Oh and really big assumptions being made about jobs on here.

I'm not a lawyer, but large organisations organisations need lawyers to negotiate and draw up contracts. You know, so they follow the law...

RoadToRivendell · 25/02/2018 11:42

Arms dealer, that's about it.

Joinourclub · 25/02/2018 11:47

When I started my teacher training, loads of my fellow trainees had teacher parents that had inspired them to join the profession. I don't imagine many of my colleagues will be encouraging their own children to become teachers!

Chanelprincess · 25/02/2018 11:49

Teacher, GP

Whatsforu · 25/02/2018 11:49

I was always scared of my DC choosing dangerous potentially damaging jobs ie military, police, fire service. Guess what this is what my eldest is determined to do. Its my worst nightmare but I can't dictate its their life.

DuckBilledAardvark · 25/02/2018 11:50

I'd be annoyed if either of them became footballers but to be honest as long as they work hard at what they do then I'm pretty flexible, ideally not prostitutes or boxers either.

Bramble71 · 25/02/2018 11:52

I wouldn't want them to be contract slaves to Simon Cowell.

formerbabe · 25/02/2018 11:52

Why footballers DuckBilledAardvark?

HamishBamish · 25/02/2018 11:53

Armed forces, police/fire service, anything illegal (e.g- sex work), anything which involved them becoming a celebrity.

I would like them to enjoy what they do and not go into something purely for the money.

HamishBamish · 25/02/2018 11:55

I'm not sure about teaching. I have relatives who are teachers and they really enjoy their jobs. They don't teach in this country though. They qualified here and worked a few years and then took jobs in private international schools.

fitgirl26 · 25/02/2018 11:57

Retail. I take my hat off to anyone who can deal with customers for an extended length of time and stay sane.

Buster72 · 25/02/2018 11:58

Wow imagine if everyone follows the advice moms are dishing out here. A future devoid of cops nurses and fire fighters. None of those jobs are easy but essential.

By way of disclosure I joined the police aged 32. My dad was disappointed but I have had 15 years of highs and lows and experiences that I wouldn't have had otherwise. I wish I had joined earlier but family talked me out of it.

hidinginthenightgarden · 25/02/2018 11:59

So many!
I wouldn't want them doing any armed forces or emergency service jobs. I also wouldn't want them to be doing a minimum wage job either. My parents told me off when I joked that DS would be a doctor etc said as long as he was happy it shouldn't matter. Actually, a few years later, I am realising that I do in fact need to encourage something ambitious and high(ish) paying because I would be doing him a disservice if I didn't. It isn't possible to survive on minimum wage without state top ups. At some point in the future they could very well disappear.

gillybeanz · 25/02/2018 12:00

working for corporate & large organisations.
Doing the same thing everyday, boring office work and same boring commute everyday. I really can't think of much worse tbh, so soulless.

Sex industry, Lawyer, Doctor, Teacher, or anything low paid that they didn't like doing.

Sarahh2014 · 25/02/2018 12:00

Politician or soldier

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/02/2018 12:03

NHS
Actually my DD went to a Careers Session (School) and there was a stand there. Her teacher tried to corall her off in that direction (even though DD isn't interested in sciences)
She said "No, my Mum works for NHS and says take a wide bodyswerve" Wink

mogloveseggs · 25/02/2018 12:03

Ds wants to be a policeman Sad
Sex worker is a definite no.
Anything on a zero hour contract also
And anything with a contract where you can’t refuse overtime
