to ask for trans threads to stay in Feminism?

Just that, really. This isn't meant to start a debate, or be goady in any way. I've just hidden the Feminism board to avoid the trans threads but they're seeping into AIBU (like this one I suppose Grin) and other places too and I'm trying to avoid them! Can we keep trans threads in Feminism please? TIA

I didn't want to get in a debate. This is why I hide the section.

I was just agreeing with OP.

Am hiding this thread now.

Thankyou.

SpringHen · 23/02/2018 19:22

My partner is FTM trans so I am supportive of trans rights. That's all. are you cool with how MTF trans activists forget that FTM transpeople exist and pretty much focus their campaigns on things that transwomen want?

Beetlejizz · 23/02/2018 19:22

I'm opposed to self ID vlad. I also don't think anyone with a penis should be in womens areas where women are vulnerable such as prisons or hospitals. And I place the responsibility for keeping trans identified women safe from violence with males, not females. It's a problem they create so they need to fix.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 23/02/2018 19:22

It's a world wide issue that will affect everyone not just feminists

Remember that thread that asked ‘do you actually know any trans people’

Most people said no , or knew a few nice one! I know there is a nasty contingent who seem to mainly live online

But I personally am more worried about climate change , rape culture , and BREXIT than the twats that try and get moved into women’s prisons . Even the DM hate them !

I agree. I hate the bigotry that this subject attracts.

hibbledibble · 23/02/2018 19:24

Yanbu

I find the transphobia and TERFs on mumsnet disturbing.

They also aren't willing to engage in intelligent debate, but simply insult anyone who does not agree with their hard-line opinion. It doesn't reflect well on them.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/02/2018 19:26

@Beetlejizz Thanks for clarifying. We are singing from the same hymn sheet it would appear. I got a bit lost with the handmaiden talk upthread.

Wheresmyfuckingcupcake · 23/02/2018 19:28

I just don’t get this thing about not being able to handle seeing or hearing opinions different to yours. To the extent that you can’t even stand seeing thread titles about them. What is that about? Grow the fuck up

Self ID affects me as a mum because one of my children plays sport.

And the lesbophobia of the TRA affects me because one of my children is lesbian.

It’s not just about people who identify as feminist. It affects all women and girls .

Sparklingbrook · 23/02/2018 19:33

As I have said I am not bored with the site just certain subjects on the site blackberryfairy but if you could leave me to it that would be great. Smile

S0ph1a · 23/02/2018 19:35

Yeah, I demand that all subjects that don’t interest me personally be quarantined. And if you don’t agree with me you are a hate filled bigot.

PencilsInSpace · 23/02/2018 19:36

OK everybody. Thank you all for your opinions. I'm going to have another look at the Feminism board when I'm over this virus and see if I can see things from everyone's points of view. Thanks everyone, and I do see your points that self-ID does not only affect feminism.

Fucking hell, this is a bit reasonable for AIBU! Get well soon OP Flowers

SpringEquinox · 23/02/2018 19:37

It's a real service to see it discussed more widely, rather than just in the Feminism boards.

Skarossinkplunger · 23/02/2018 19:37

I still stand by my request to have a separate board for transthreads. It should
be called “the place to shout down and bully anyone who thinks differently”

Ruffian · 23/02/2018 19:44

So you just want a whole section of posters to be corralled into one board so you don't have to have your eyes offended by their opinions?

Yes that's not at all goady or unreasonable Hmm

Efrig · 23/02/2018 19:44

If this law is passed it’s going to represent the biggest social change since......🤔 I can’t even remember. It’s going to affect at least half the population whether they like it or not. It’s not going so well in Canada from what I read, so I welcome any recent information, debate and findings that there are out there.

This is the only place most of us can talk about it and I’m grateful for the info that others have linked to and the knowledge and insight they have.

hibbledibble - They also aren't willing to engage in intelligent debate, but simply insult anyone who does not agree with their hard-line opinion.

This is such a ludicrous misrepresentation of the discussion! We are crying out for intelligent debate with people who believe self-ID is a good idea. Instead we mostly get 'ploppers' - people who just post 'you're all mean/transphobic/bigots' and then disappear.

If you believe you have good points to make, please jump in and join the debate. Maybe don't start by calling us all transphobic TERFs though. That can get people's backs up.

They also aren't willing to engage in intelligent debate

Are you kidding?? That's all they do. Literally. It's the pro-self ID people who lob in an insult and run off. They will not debate. Ever. Or they try give up because they have no logical argument.

Honestly. Engage your brain.

tobee · 23/02/2018 19:50

I've read plenty of these threads recently and I can honestly say I don't think I've seen any man hating comments on them.

Sevendown · 23/02/2018 19:52

It’s not a feminist issue it’s a everybody issue.

Xulishesthepilot · 23/02/2018 19:52

The most recent ones I've seen in AIBU all have gaping holes in where posts have been deleted. I guess they're all people calling women TERFs, right?

VladmirsPoutine · 23/02/2018 19:52

@yawning801 You truly deserve a Star, you said you were done with the thread when we were just 1-page in. Now we're at 170+ posts and you're still lurking somewhere on the thread.

If you do genuinely think there might be some weight to your proposition then report it to MN and have it sent to the Site Stuff board, or report the thread entirely and ask for MN to comment on whether or not this is possible.

In a practical sense I doubt it would be because for example, when Harry and Meghan got engaged it was all over the shop. Not just on the Royal board or whatever its called.

What you essentially did here was create another thread for us all to wax lyrical.
