My dd went to New York last week, "get me some American sweets please" I ask. I have never had anything so disgusting in my life. Who wants chocolate to taste of vomit? The grape Hi-Chews, well they don't even taste like food! AIBU to disown my dd?

Even though Cadbury’s has changed (and all the bars shrunk, don’t think we hadn’t noticed Hmm I’d still take it over Hershey’s any day of the week.

misskatamari · 23/02/2018 19:23

It is oh so rank. And definitely tastes of vomit. Dh told me that and I didn't understand how that could be possible until I actually tasted them. Foul foul foul!

Poshjock · 23/02/2018 19:23

I do like M&Ms Peanut butter and biscuit. You only very occasionally get them here.

I also love (please don't shoot me down over this!) Lifesavers Winter Green flavour and Root Beer.

Coulddowithanap · 23/02/2018 20:14

Oh I quite like Hershey's chocolate... Never gave me the vomit taste lol

Foodylicious · 23/02/2018 20:22

Grim stuff.

Anyone had chocolate in Australia?
Had Cadbury, Mars (malteasers) and a KitKat.
Just the strangest thing ever.
Not exactly unpleasant, but very odd.

It's made differently so it has a higher melting temperature for obvious reasons.
But it was something I had never considered before.

Olga81 · 23/02/2018 20:28

Peanut butter twix are the best - off limits for me these days unfortunately.

DalekDalekDalek · 23/02/2018 20:39

Nope, this is on you for asking for American sweets! Yuck!

SilverySurfer · 23/02/2018 20:46

Hershey's does indeed taste of vomit - totally disgusting. No wonder the American companies who bought Cadburys added palm oil and turned it into shit. They have no clue how wonderful chocolate can be.

BetterEatCheese · 23/02/2018 20:46

Eurgh, proper let down isn't it!?

HobnobBob · 23/02/2018 20:53

It’s horrible, tastes like plastic.

Leontine · 23/02/2018 20:57

It's bloody awful! The cookie crumble (or something) is horrible too.

Fintress · 23/02/2018 20:58

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks Hershey's tastes like vomit. It is utterly vile. It was the first time in my life I threw chocolate in the bin

ParadiseLaundry · 23/02/2018 21:02

Hershey's is disgusting but you should have asked for American Sour Patch Kids, they are amazing. The ones here are crap, they're not even sour!

Leontine · 23/02/2018 21:06

I don't think it tastes like vomit, it just tastes like that really cheap chocolate you get in advent calendars to me. Really bland.

So glad I'm not alone with this! Hershey's definitely tastes like vomit!

Their other confectionery is mainly filled with peanuts or peanut butter which, is equally disgusting. Bit strange too, considering so many people there are allergic to peanuts.

On the bright side, it's a good weight loss regime (when on holiday) as I refuse to buy or eat confectionery when in the US as it's so awful.

Peanutbutterjelly1 · 24/02/2018 02:28

So glad it's not just me that thinks it tastes of vomit!

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/02/2018 10:06

It's butyric acid that makes it taste like vomit.
I.do like wintergreen altoids though.
I also have a fascination with Jujey Fruits as they list petroleum in the ingredient list!
I had some chocolate in India that was formulated not to melt in the heat, which also means it doesn't melt in your mouth. It was sort of chewy, like putty and the colour from the foil came off on your hands. Still tasted better than Hershey's though!

actuallyithinkitdoes · 24/02/2018 10:18

Foodylicious my DH used to live in Australia and said exactly the same! He said they had the same brands there like Dominoes Pizza but it just wasn't right! And he couldn't find any pic n mix.

The only adult male on the planet to ask for mix n mix for Christmas.

newcarsmell · 24/02/2018 12:55

That's odd, I live in Australia. Chocolate definitely melts! I haven't noticed a huge difference between British and Aussie chocolate. Sometimes I buy a Fry's chocolate cream from the British aisle at the supermarket though. Other that that, I like the chocolate here. Cadbury's is great, give me a block of hazelnut any day. And Charlesworth is delicious.
American chocolate is gross though.

Blaablaablaa · 24/02/2018 12:59

I went on a chocolate master class once and was told it was because they use soured milk

maddiemookins16mum · 24/02/2018 13:01

Hersheys and Chocolate are two words that should not be used in the same sentence.

LoniceraJaponica · 24/02/2018 13:06

Really beepthemeep and CoulddowithanapShock
Don’t you like chocolate?
We tried some in Orlando and thought they had a sour vomity aftertaste. I’m glad it wasn’t just us.

I love America, but they are shit at chocolate and not great at cheese.

PinkyBlunder · 24/02/2018 13:13

For truly awful chocolate try south africa

Get out of town. You can’t beat a bar of Top Deck or a Crunch bar!

AspikyOne · 24/02/2018 13:15

It’s disgusting and yes tastes of vomit 🤢
