Does anybody else get annoyed with the amount of repeating items from the Olympics on the bbc? Christie was disqualified and they have showed the interview with her several times when there are other interesting sports they can be showing. They have been discussing it with a friend of hers and now another member of the fb team. They seem to just be focusing on GB I was waiting to watch the bobsleigh. AIBU?

Sorry I'm loving the commentary. Enjoying the fact it's mainly women.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 20/02/2018 19:13

I can’t believe that in 2018, adult women are still being called “girls” by the presenters

I've actually been watching out for this and yes whilst some presenters do use 'girls' but I've noticed the women athletes also tend to refer to each other as 'girls' as well so I can't get to worked up about it.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 19:26

Why the fuck does anybody need to dope for curling

Yep. Even Rhona Martin was confused.

eddiemairswife · 20/02/2018 19:26

I find it annoying that I can't find out what is on and when. They don't keep to the advertised schedule in the Radio Times Olympic Supplement, and irritatingly often show exactly the same events on BBC1/2 and the Red Button.
And yes to the endless, endless curling.

Mol1628 · 20/02/2018 19:28

There is definitely too much curling, not enough snowboarding.

SuburbanRhonda · 20/02/2018 19:28

I've noticed the women athletes also tend to refer to each other as 'girls' as well so I can't get to worked up about it.

I don’t care how many other people have picked up the habit, it’s still demeaning.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 19:29

Elise Christie (not Elsie, autocorrect!)...why does she keep getting disqualified? Surely she knows the rules. If she just lost or fell over, fair enough...but to do it wrong so much seems a but unprofessional

There are tight margins in short track and a slight unintential of defensive thing can end up in a penalty.

In the team even today so many teams got a penalty in the final that the winning team of the B race ended up with bronze! Shock

Headofthehive55 · 20/02/2018 19:32

I agree too much curling. It's like watching paint dry!!

goose1964 · 20/02/2018 19:33

I've been watching it on Eurosport, the commentators explain the experts clearly, without talking down to you

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 19:36

So many typos but you get the drift....

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 20/02/2018 19:37

I need to get Eurosport! I am fed up with the replays of Elise Christie's dramas and the snowboard commentators' gushy crush on Shaun White.

UnimaginativeUsername · 20/02/2018 19:37

There is definitely too much curling, not enough snowboarding.

Yes.

I’ve got Eurosport so I can watch it all and I still wish there was more snowboarding.

FuzzyCustard · 20/02/2018 19:44

Yesterday I heard the curling commentator (Steve Cram? What does he know??) mention Anna Sloan's "big blue eyes". And that's relevant to her curling abilities how?

ExFury · 20/02/2018 20:06

I've actually been watching out for this and yes whilst some presenters do use 'girls' but I've noticed the women athletes also tend to refer to each other as 'girls' as well so I can't get to worked up about it.

It's obviously something they've been warned about on the BBC because a few times the guests have said girls and then corrected themselves.

MycatsaPirate · 20/02/2018 20:34

Love the snow boarding and half pipe. It's just amazing watching them fly up in the air upside down and the wrong way round and then land impeccably (most of the time). Just so bloody talented.

I tried skiing once. I fell of the snow lift thing and landed upside down like a stranded turtle with my skis somewhere over the top of my head. I was picked up by a small child who was rather disdainful of my pathetic attempts.

ShinyMe · 20/02/2018 20:42

I'm so fed up with Clare Balding's "moving" voiceovers about people's emotional journeys - injury... disqualification... heartbreak... disappointment... dream of a lifetime... inspirational courage... slo-mo montage with stirring orchestral music. AARGH, just shut up and show the sport!

Mol1628 · 20/02/2018 21:04

They actually had an orchestra in one of the montages! I can’t remember who’s ‘journey’ it was, might have been Lizzie Yarnold.

specialsubject · 20/02/2018 21:57

Snow sports? Are the BBC showing them? Argh...

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 20/02/2018 22:23

I don’t care how many other people have picked up the habit, it’s still demeaning.

Pretty much every women I know collectively refer to their female friends as ‘girls’. It’s not some recently picked up habit or fad, they have been using the term as long as I can remember.

BeaLola · 20/02/2018 22:35

In answer to your question YES , I have started watching it on mute, highlights on Eurosport of recording it e.g. ice Dance and fast forwarding.

I think Elise CHristie is the Paula Radcliffe of Winter Sports.

For some reason Jackie Lockhart kept annoying me when she says the Scottish team oops no I mean Team GB all the time and as for STeve curling expert Cram .... seriously I love the curling but watch it on mute.

I usually like Hazel Irvine but she fawned so much over Christopher Dean the other day and I know it's not relevant but she needs a different wardrobe . Clare Balding I have grown to like but not sure why we need 3-4 experts in the Salford studio - waste of money.

Rant over, as I was - off to watch more !

Withhindsight · 20/02/2018 22:43

Agree with sandunes - the bobsleigh commentator saying "sort of" l ended up counting how many times he said it- sort of corner 2 , it's either corner 2 or it's not! I turned the sound off

BiologyMatters · 20/02/2018 22:52

If you're annoyed by the girls thing maybe you missed the numerous references the male commentator made about the female French skier, who we apparently needed to be told she is a mother of one!

I don't recall being told about any of the male competitors reproductive status.

CotswoldStrife · 20/02/2018 23:04

I do have some sympathy for Elise Christie but come on BBC, stop with the constant EC stuff! She is good at her sport but hasn't been lucky at the Olympics. I think it's because she was probably the best hope for a medal but stop with the constant reruns of her (especially where she is clearly in pain) and focus on the athletes that have won so far.

specialsubject · 21/02/2018 20:02

Finally sussed what others have - record the over night broadcast. That's when the interesting stuff with snow is. Whizz through the montages, jabber and interviews. The good sports are interesting even if you do know the results.

And the shriek and sweep of curling, the tedious balding and her mates and all the other crap can be avoided.

Deliaskis · 21/02/2018 20:14

We're in Austria at the moment where there is a lot of coverage...of untranslated interviews with Russians and Koreans etc. As well as insightful questions to winning English speaking Europeans like...what does this medal mean to you? But the exact same three questions to every medalist. Crap as it sounds, I'd forgive the BBC a lot right now.

Although Eurosport usually good coverage so we're watching that as well.
