BBC Olympic reporting

Does anybody else get annoyed with the amount of repeating items from the Olympics on the bbc? Christie was disqualified and they have showed the interview with her several times when there are other interesting sports they can be showing. They have been discussing it with a friend of hers and now another member of the fb team. They seem to just be focusing on GB I was waiting to watch the bobsleigh. AIBU?

My reference to the Scotland football tam was tongue in cheek, but you get the gist!

Also they haven’t done the final for the ice dance yet, have they? I think you will find it was the pairs (won by the Canadians) which is totally different - throws, separate skating etc. The rules for ice dance have changed as well so T and D do look less good now but at the time they were the best.

I do not know why we cannot get the best equipment for winter sports. We are capable of high quality design so it does not make sense.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 15:34

Yes they have.

Sorry that is wrong. The pair's was won by Germans not Canadians.

Their routine was choreographed by Dean.

Mol1628 · 20/02/2018 15:34

Haha we laughed at the rocket science comment as well.
The constant replays annoys me. And all the slow motion, inspirational montages. Get on with the sport there’s no need for all the fillers!

Fluffyunicorns · 20/02/2018 15:43

I'm on Eurosport all the way - far more actual sport and far less waffle

UnimaginativeUsername · 20/02/2018 15:48

I’m on Eurosport too. They still manage to sneak in GB focussed waffle before events they expect GB to be reasonably good at. I just skip it though, because it’s boring.

It also makes it much easier to avoid the curling.

strawberrysparkle · 20/02/2018 15:57

Do torvil and dean actually like each other? When they had them both earlier they looked really uncomfortable.

Floralnomad · 20/02/2018 16:01

I’m watching on Eurosport as well , much better coverage even with the adverts .

HolyMountain · 20/02/2018 16:05

No I couldn't do speed skating [wouldn't stay upright] but if Elise Christie is the best we've got she should find another job and give the lottery funding to someone else.

ToffeeUp · 20/02/2018 16:15

Agree that the whole Elise Christie drama was so over the top. Just let the woman get on with her skating and pay some attention to the other British skaters there. No need to for a mini series.

They also like to repeat themselves, I am sure I have heard the same conversation about the curling doping case about 3 times now and not on a replay.

I do like the snowboard commentators.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 16:22

She is world champion. So actually she is best in the world.

LivLemler · 20/02/2018 16:24

I just wish the shows on iPlayer had a better description and timetable so I could fast forward to the events I want. I love the winter Olympics but this must be the least I've ever watched.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 20/02/2018 16:27

The guy who was commentating the bobsleigh today was really, really annoying. Everything was ‘sort of’ - they’ll be in the, sort of, top 6.... she didn’t take that well between sort of turn 4 and 6. I was getting really cross!

JacquesHammer · 20/02/2018 16:27

They haven't done that for the figure skating or the curling or whatever...

They have had ex-competitor experts in the studios for both of those

No I couldn't do speed skating [wouldn't stay upright] but if Elise Christie is the best we've got she should find another job and give the lottery funding to someone else

You might want to check out her record...

The very reason we don’t excel in many sports is funding. Taking lottery funding from one of the very few winter competitors who is successful would be nonsensical

ExFury · 20/02/2018 17:15

Yeah, but they didn't send them out to Korea for a couple of days just to commentate on those events is what I meant. They'd had Amy williams in the studio several times.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 20/02/2018 17:19

The constant repetition is making me wonder if there is actually much happening at the Olympics at all, I feel like I just watch the same 10 minutes of sport over and over again. I'm not sure why they are doing quite so badly at the presenting of the winter Olympics when usually I find the coverage of the summer Olympics quite enjoyable.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 17:23

Yeah, but they didn't send them out to Korea for a couple of days just to commentate on those events is what I meant. They'd had Amy williams in the studio several times.

No they had experts commentating in the studio and at the Olympics for them. So they had 2 expects really.

For curling Rhona Martin in the studio and Jackie Lockhart at the Olympics.

Ice skating have Robin Cousins at the Olympics and Torvill and Dean in the studio.

Sliding events have had Any Williams in the studio she went to the Olympics for her event (where she could also have had to do other stuff tbh as a past gold medal winner) and has now come back to the studio.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2018 17:25

The big issue is the time difference. You will probably find the same for the Commonwealth games in April in the Gold Coast.

WineAndTiramisu · 20/02/2018 17:35

We've discovered Eurosport as well, after getting fed up with the BBC coverage (or lack of...)

BiologyMatters · 20/02/2018 18:14

They're talking to Christopher Dean at the start of every single bit of figure skating and by god does he love the sound of his own voice.

I dont think he and jayne do like each other, no.

Rejoiner · 20/02/2018 18:45

I think part of the issue is to do with the rights that the BBC have, they can only show on 1 channel. Plus they want to explain to everyone like they are in primary and give us all the back stories. And it is through the night.

I watch a lot of sport and the dedicated sports channels are much better at the hard facts, however their presenters and commentators are not all better.

I admire both Clare Balding and Hazel Irvine but am finding their shows from Salford all a bit awkward and odd.

mydogisthebest · 20/02/2018 18:56

I do find the repeating of certain things annoying. The Elise Christie interview I have seen 3 times so far today.

Mind you I would rather watch her interview over and over than watch curling. Almost every time I turn the tv on for the Olympics it is curling being shown. Surely has to be the most boring sport ever and all that shouting by the team drives me mad

FuzzyCustard · 20/02/2018 19:01

I'm also bored by the curling. Well, perhaps the amount of curling! And agree with PP about the shrieky shouting they do. Sets my teeth on edge.

Elise Christie (not Elsie, autocorrect!)...why does she keep getting disqualified? Surely she knows the rules. If she just lost or fell over, fair enough...but to do it wrong so much seems a but unprofessional.

AnyFucker · 20/02/2018 19:05

Why the fuck does anybody need to dope for curling ? Confused

SuburbanRhonda · 20/02/2018 19:09

I can’t believe that in 2018, adult women are still being called “girls” by the presenters Angry

GrouchyKiwi · 20/02/2018 19:09

How did I miss the Pairs event?! I've been waiting for that.

Stupid different time zones. They should only ever have the Olympics in my time zone.

Oh yes, I hate the repetition too, especially about Christie. It's a shame she's had a rubbish time, but move on, Beeb.
