It really is time that this nasty practice is stopped.

'Thank you enthusiasm. Unsurprisingly, UKIP is the only party the majority of whose supporters back a ban on circumcision. This might give some of the posters food for thought (but probably won't).'
association fallacy if you were to look at every pro circumscion argument most would be using one logical fallacy or another. appeal to faith are religion says so 'argumentum ad populum' because lots of people believe it it must be true

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2018 22:59

“Thank you enthusiasm. Unsurprisingly, UKIP is the only party the majority of whose supporters back a ban on circumcision. This might give some of the posters food for thought (but probably won't).”

How about you address the issue of consent, rather than making nasty insinuations.

Consent is everything.

Agreed bertrand

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 19/02/2018 23:02

Bloody brilliant good got Iceland.

About time we stopped excusing child abuse and mitilating cruelry because it’s a ‘religious or cultural norm’

No move on and let call it out for what it is. Child abuse.

If an adult male or an adult female decides they want their genitals multulated then that’s their choice. Children should be protected in this country by the law and anyone violating a child should be prosecuted properly

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 19/02/2018 23:05

beans

Hideous photo isn’t it. The men look disturbed and pretending not to be

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2018 23:07

“ancient tradition where the circumcision wound is cleaned by mouth“

I don’t think this happens any more. Or the long fingernail thing either.

How or why it is done is a complete red herring. It is all about consent

TheCaptainsCat · 19/02/2018 23:07

Unsurprisingly, UKIP is the only party the majority of whose supporters back a ban on circumcision. This might give some of the posters food for thought (but probably won't).

I think it's pretty calculating and unpleasant to insinuate that anyone who is opposed to the ritualistic circumcision of babies is OBVIOUSLY a bigot Hmm

I personally would like the circumcision of those too young to give their consent, to be banned. And don't worry, I am not a UKIPER, what with my Muslim husband and mixed race children and all Grin

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 19/02/2018 23:08

I'm not sure how they do look disturbed. How can there not be a sexual element to this?

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 19/02/2018 23:09

Loving the way it's being totally ignored that the largely white Christian County of the US is a large practitioner of this Confused

iBiscuit · 19/02/2018 23:10

Those who are so against circumcision (and I'm not a supporter of it - ds's dad wanted him done for class/tradition rather than religious reasons, and I wouldn't allow it) would be taken more seriously if they stopped talking about hurting helpless babies.

Lots of painful things are done to babies and small children without their consent, because we believe we're acting in their best interests.

Explain why circumcision isn't in any baby's best interests and you might get somewhere.

beepthemeep · 19/02/2018 23:12

iBiscuit - excluding medically necessary procedures, what else is done to young babies that is painful? There's ear piercing, but that's been done a million times on here - I can't think of anything else? Am probably being dim though!

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2018 23:12

Like what?

It's irrelevant to this discussion which is a ban in the UNITED KINGDOM.

In the United Kingdom circumcision is rare unless you are Jewish or Muslim. The reason why it centres on the Jewish and Muslim population as a ban would affect them and no one else really.

Who cares what the USA for for the purposes of this discussion which is banning it in the UK.

Sassydoughnut · 19/02/2018 23:14

I agree with banning it. If people still want to do it for religious reasons, let them do it when they are adults that can decide for themselves. The religious reasons are pointless and unnecessary.

GColdtimer · 19/02/2018 23:15

Like what ibiscuit?

Melissa1771 · 19/02/2018 23:15

lol, a thread where a bunch of gentiles think they are being so progressive and original, insinuating or outright saying that Jews are "sick", perverted, child abusers, and that we should emulate a largely mono-cultural, inbred and isolated island in their approach to religious tolerance. And yet there are also calls to live in the 21st century! Sounds more like the middle ages to me - history does tend to repeat itself!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/02/2018 23:16

Lots of children have treatments on birthmarks/moles removed which isn’t a necessity

Ds had one removed it was my choice totally unnecessary he enjoyed the experience Grin

GladAllOver · 19/02/2018 23:18

It's not been ignored at all. If you had RTFT you would have seen that the reasons for the (now declining) mass circumcision of boys in the US has been explained more than once.

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 19/02/2018 23:18

Where did you you have it dome enthusiasm. Did you take him to a proper doctors, clinic? Hospital? Or some dodgy room in a back street somewhere? Did he scream? End up in intensive care?

beepthemeep · 19/02/2018 23:18

Where do you live, Melissa?!

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 19/02/2018 23:19

It's being totally ignored by some posters who are desperate to make the this into a race issue.

NewYearNiki · 19/02/2018 23:19

history does tend to repeat itself!

Take that to yourself.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/02/2018 23:20

Wow Melissa Confused

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 19/02/2018 23:21

Lots of painful things are done to young babies??

Really like what? A tiny injection that lasts seconds and protects from deadly disease verses a pointless painful and mutilating practise that has no merit, no consent and can cause life long psychological trauma??

Really you can’t telll the difference?

worse

Whose ignoring that? The US has a high Jewish population that imposes this practise on its babies and equally a health care system that persuades idiot parents to routinely circumcise boys for ‘heakth’ Reasons obviousiy it’s for financial reasons.

We all know that no one is ignoring it.
