Trump Talk: or, Lift every voice and sing

lionheart · 17/02/2018 19:58

It's Black History Month and the fight goes on (plus, we all need a boost that does not come from ye olde hop flask).

Lift every voice and sing

Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,

Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,

God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might

Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,

May we forever stand.

True to our God,
True to our native land.

James Weldon Johnson (1900)

I have left out the retweet from Pence showing celebrations at the Trump pad in Florida. He's on a bit of a roll and I bet Mueller is taking notes.

Never gotten over the fact that Obama was able to send $1.7 Billion Dollars in CASH to Iran and nobody in Congress, the FBI or Justice called for an investigation!

I never said Russia did not meddle in the election, I said “it may be Russia, or China or another country or group, or it may be a 400 pound genius sitting in bed and playing with his computer.” The Russian “hoax” was that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia - it never did!

Now that Adam Schiff is starting to blame President Obama for Russian meddling in the election, he is probably doing so as yet another excuse that the Democrats, lead by their fearless leader, Crooked Hillary Clinton, lost the 2016 election. But wasn’t I a great candidate?

If it was the GOAL of Russia to create discord, disruption and chaos within the U.S. then, with all of the Committee Hearings, Investigations and Party hatred, they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. They are laughing their asses off in Moscow. Get smart America!

He is so presidential

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/02/2018 13:58

He’s also just added one about fake news cnn, priming the base to discount and dismiss any more dropping of shoes

cozietoesie · 18/02/2018 14:09

He's badly rattled.

PerkingFaintly · 18/02/2018 14:17

Trump on 11 Nov 2017:

President Donald Trump has said that Vladimir Putin told him there was no Russian interference in the US election, and that he was offended by the mere suggestion.

“He said he didn't meddle,” said Mr Trump, speaking to reporters on Air Force One during his 11-day Asia trip.

“I asked him again. You can only ask so many times. But I just asked him again, and he said he absolutely did not meddle in our election. He did not do what they're saying he did.”
...
“Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn't do that.’ And I believe, I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it. I think he's very insulted by it, if you want to know the truth.”

PerkingFaintly · 18/02/2018 14:20

Interestingly, in that piece Trump strongly pushes Putin's denial that the Russians meddled... while not himself denying it.

He is isn’t he? This observation also seems on the nose

Unrelated to Russian but I have a feeling all these extremely articulate students from Parkland Florida are getting under his skin. He probably wants to hit back but even he knows he can’t.

Replying to @LenPldaniel and @JohnJHarwood
They’re calling him out boldly. Bluntly. Truthfully. Unmasking the deceit & venality of DT & the Repub Party. What can he do? Rant against 16-year-old survivors of a mass killing? He’d like to, bc decency means nothing to him. He’s all about attack & destroy.

Now, my Pollyanna ways aren’t so overbearing that I think he won’t stoop to insulting the survivors. After all, he has already laid the blame at the school community’s feet for not passing on more information to the fbi when they had concerns and this is also the man who said there were fine people on both sides, including the side with Nazis that plowed into and killed someone. But if he does attack, it won’t be immediately and it must be torturing him trying to hold off.

Lweji · 18/02/2018 14:28

He's not writing those tweets, I don't think.

I wonder who is actually typing.

merrymouse · 18/02/2018 14:30

Wouldn’t any other American President be in church now - or is he relying on Mike Pence to actually do the whole ‘thoughts and prayers’ thing?

It’s not as though he is even pretending to do anything constructive - just creating more evidence that he is trying to obstruct investigations.

cozietoesie · 18/02/2018 14:32

He doesn't know how...........

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/02/2018 15:37

This was in response to trumplestiltskin’s “very sad the fbi have been focussing in Russia and not preventing shooters” tweet

Incomprehensible pain and loss at a high school, yet again, and it’s children who are the leading voices for action. Meanwhile, our president uses the tragedy to attack the investigation of a foreign adversary’s interference in our democracy. Shameful.

Top U.S. officials tell the world to ignore Trump’s tweets

www.washingtonpost.com/world/top-us-officials-tell-the-world-to-ignore-trumps-tweets/2018/02/18/bc605236-14a2-11e8-942d-16a950029788_story.html?utm_term=.7d89d8cac140

MUNICH — Amid global anxiety about President Trump’s approach to global affairs, U.S. officials had a message to a gathering of Europe’s foreign policy elite this weekend: pay no attention to the man tweeting behind the curtain.

U.S. lawmakers — both Democrats and Republicans — and top national security officials in the Trump administration offered the same advice publicly and privately, often clashing with Trump’s Twitter stream: the United States remains staunchly committed to its European allies, is furious with the Kremlin about election interference and isn’t contemplating a preemptive strike on North Korea to halt its nuclear program.

But Trump himself engaged in a running counterpoint to the message, taking aim on social media at his own national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, because he “forgot” on Saturday to tell the Munich Security Conference that the results of the 2016 weren’t affected by Russian interference, a conclusion that is not supported by U.S. intelligence agencies. They say they will likely never be able to determine whether the Russian involvement swung the election toward Trump.

The determination to ignore Trump’s foreign-policy tweets has been bipartisan.

“There is a lot more support for continuing our past policies than it might appear from some of the statements,” Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) told an audience on Sunday that was comprised mostly of Europe’s foreign-policy elite. “The unanimity comes from those folks who are actually operationalizing policy.”

“The values are the same, the relationships are the same,” said Rep. Michael R. Turner (R-Ohio). “What you do see is this administration willing to put pressure upon the systems.”

The question of whom they should believe — the president or his advisers — has befuddled European officials. German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel confessed Saturday that he didn’t know where to look to understand America.

“Is it deeds? Is it words? Is it tweets?” he asked.

He said he was not sure whether he could recognize the United States.

Away from the glare of television cameras, many European diplomats and policymakers echoed the same concerns. One diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity to avoid provoking Trump, asked whether policymakers like McMaster who adhere largely to traditional U.S. foreign policy positions were falling into the same trap as Germany’s elite during Hitler’s rise, when they continued to serve in government in the name of protecting their nation. Wow, this is startling: Trump communicates through Twitter so they are telling the rest of the world that Trump isn’t in charge.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/02/2018 15:50

Thanks for the new thread!

Here in Yosemite DH's pro-Trump gun nut bff and his lovely but neutral wife (my bff) have arrived. Forbidden subjects are Trump, guns, the Lakeland massacre, and Disney. What a combination.

DH admits he's beginning to see the blemish on the Rose. His bff literally saved his life a few years ago DH would have died if he hadn't forced him to the ER so DH feels a particular sense of loyalty to him. But I think it's wearing thin.

To the poster above who is planning a trip here I want to say your comment brought tears to my eyes. So many of us are constantly thinking " My God, what must they think of us! I hope they know that most of us can't stand what's going on!" It's good to know that (hopefully) by and large the people of the world understand thT we are caught in a nightmare from which we can't awaken for another 3 years. Unless the midterms change the course.

As far as 'gun culture' and the US mindset vs other countries with large gun ownership I put the difference down to two things: our pride in being a country who won it's freedom from a much stronger power through armed insurrection and the 'glorification' of the Wild West. We have had over 200 years of being weaned on these tales. It's a hard mindset to change because for man it means giving up cherished ideals about 'manifest destiny' and the superiority of the "American Way". But it needs to change. We need to see that we are citizens of humanity. And that 'the shining city on the hill' needs to tear down the city wall and join the rest of the world in working together for the good of us all.

Thus endeth the sermon for the day. Time to hit the morning campfire and some Coffee and Kahlua. High today 36f. Snow to start around 3. Accumulation 3 inches, overnight low 19f.

cozietoesie · 18/02/2018 15:53

Lordy. How did DH get on at the store? Grin

And what, pray, are you actually able to talk about? Wink

AcrossthePond55 · 18/02/2018 15:56

Oh, and as far as the teens and young people who are screaming for change:

Isaiah 11:6 King James Version (KJV)

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it, Pence. The Bible is telling you to listen to the children you hypocritical bastard!

AcrossthePond55 · 18/02/2018 16:00

DH is good about deflecting him cozie. As far as what we talk about, well, the weather gets a good going over.

Most of the time the wife and I find reasons to take a walk so we can talk about our trip to Disneyland in April. Her DH must think I have a bladder the size of a pea. 😜
