Trump Talk: or, Lift every voice and sing

It's Black History Month and the fight goes on (plus, we all need a boost that does not come from ye olde hop flask).

Lift every voice and sing

Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,

Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,

God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might

Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,

May we forever stand.

True to our God,
True to our native land.

James Weldon Johnson (1900)

I can't resist this. Don't think it's been referred to on here. Possibly a new word for lionheart.

That is a good one Ouais. Wankspanner does drip off the tongue in a satisfying manner.

If you're able to, I would recommend watching the live interview of Nix (CEO of Cambridge Analytica) with the parliamentary committee.

PerkingFaintly · 27/02/2018 11:20

Ooh, thank you Pain. I'm now watching Nix at the committee.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/02/2018 11:22

It's fascinating isn't it? He's quite a slippery smooth character but I feel that they're determined to get to the bottom of this, which is encouraging.

PerkingFaintly · 27/02/2018 11:28

Indeed.

It's really obvious the questions he doesn't want to answer. Or answers a slightly different question.

PerkingFaintly · 27/02/2018 13:13

Well that was interesting.

Committee: Did you target vulnerable voters with messages to increase fear?
Nix: It's normal for all parties to focus on locally important issues like parking.

Sky takeover: bidding war predicted as Comcast makes £22bn offer - business live
US cable giant Comcast has made a dramatic move to take control of UK broadcaster Sky, and thwart Rupert Murdoch’s own takeover offer

Comcast is number 15 on this list of USA's Top 20 most hated companies.
But can anything be worse than Murdoch?

For those who didn't watch, Nix repeatedly stated that Cambridge Analytica did no paid work to do with Brexit. There was then considerable back and forth about what "work" meant, given he agrees CA did do pre-work work(!) with Leave.eu, and a CA employee was part of the Leave.eu campaign launch.

There was also a puff article in Nix's name claiming CA were working with Leave.eu; Nix claims this is untrue and was inadvertently put out in advance.

Then there was high drama. One of the committee quoted Arron Banks' book making claims about Cambridge Analytica, which Nix said were untrue. Banks was watching the session like the rest of us and his tweet in response was read out by the committee:

"CA wanted a fee of £1m to start work & then said they would raise £6m in the states. We declined the offer because it was illegal."
twitter.com/Arron_banks/status/968451464493445120

So Arron Banks and Alexander Nix are accusing each other of, to put it politely, not telling the truth.

Coverage from Peter Jukes here twitter.com/peterjukes and I'm sure there'll be more elsewhere.

BiglyBadgers · 27/02/2018 14:22

I'm really enjoying this business of live right of reply via twitter. Certainly brings a new level of excitement to committees. Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/02/2018 14:41

Just finished watching it! I hope they do take up Banks' offer of an interview, as well as Wigmore's, and that they manage to livestream Assange as the two of them suggested.
