Trump Talk: or, Lift every voice and sing

It's Black History Month and the fight goes on (plus, we all need a boost that does not come from ye olde hop flask).

Lift every voice and sing

Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,

Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,

God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might

Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,

May we forever stand.

True to our God,
True to our native land.

James Weldon Johnson (1900)

'President Trump's youngest son, Eric, decried the lack of "manners" in America in a speech Thursday, and, like his sister Ivanka last year, expressed dismay at what he called the "viciousness" of political reactions to his father.'

Putin ally, Yevgeniy Prigozhin indicted by Mueller last week for funding the Internet Research Agency, said to be in touch with Kremlin, Assad before his mercenaries attacked U.S. troops and their allies in Syria this month

  1. This is the most important #TrumpRussia story no one is talking about.

One of the men who attacked the sovereignty of our elections in 2016 at Putin's behest is the same man behind the deadliest US-Russia clash since the Cold War: Yevgeniy Prigozhin.

  1. In that incident, U.S. troops and their Syrian allies near the town of Deir al Zour were attacked by hundreds of pro-regime troops. The Americans responded with a devastating attack that the U.S. said left about 100 dead. Russian mercenaries were among the dead, says the Post.

  2. The mercenary firm is linked to Prigozhin, the Russian oligarch who was recently indicted by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III for an alleged role in “information warfare” ahead of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He financed the Internet Research Agency.

  3. What's worse is that U.S. intelligence reports say Prigozhin was apparently in touch with both the Kremlin and Syrian officials shortly before and after the attack, as The Washington Post reported Thursday.

  4. TL;DR? Robert Mueller is hot on the trail of highly adversarial, dangerous Russian operatives working closely with the Kremlin to undermine our democracy and attack our troops abroad, putting their lives at risk.

  5. When the GOP stooges like @DevinNunes and @seanhannity attack Mueller, they are doing more than Donald's bidding: they are working for Vladimir Putin. And ultimately, they are putting American soldiers at risk.

  6. Of course, whether our troops should even be there in the first place is an entirely different question. But it's important to know who we are up against- and why this investigation matters.

Thread. Russian official who illicitly helped get Trump into office also worked to endanger lives of US troops. And Trump says nothing.

Instead, Trump has made it easier for Russia to compromise our national security through measures including:

  • Giving Russian officials state secrets
  • Stopping sanctions on Russia from taking effect
  • Obstructing the investigation into Russian election interference

Prigozhin is not only "Putin's chef" but also Assad's mercenary-in-chief, according to intercepted communications. The odd part is he claimed that Russia OK'd the disastrous attack i.e. let the Wagner troops charge to certain death

This attack was

  1. a deniable method to test our resolve, &
  1. a way to see the extent to which Russian propaganda has compelled the public, & especially key parts of the conservative base, to ignore a direct Russian attack on US soldiers.

The Latest: Russia’s amended Syrian UN resolution circulated

apnews.com/3048e9f46f4147b4ac2359a53464a288?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP

[an excerpt]

Russia’s amended U.N. resolution would rule out an immediate 30-day cease-fire in Syria to deliver aid and evacuate the critically ill proposed by Sweden and Kuwait and backed by most of the U.N. Security Council.

Instead, the Russian draft circulated Thursday to the U.N. Security Council demands that all parties “stop hostilities as soon as possible” and “work for an immediate and unconditional de-escalation of violence” and “humanitarian pause” for at least 30 days.

It would also condemn the “relentless shelling” of Damascus from the rebel-held suburbs of eastern Ghouta, and deplore “the ongoing attempts by terrorist groups to retake areas and attack civilians and civilian objects.”

In a provision that appears aimed at U.S.-backed forces fighting against the Islamic State extremist group and al-Qaida affiliate, the Russian draft also stresses that “foreign military forces can operate in Syria only in coordination with official authorities.”

Several council diplomats who examined the Russian draft, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said it was unacceptable.

Unbelievable that Russia is stalling a vote on a ceasefire allowing humanitarian access in Syria. How many more people will die before the The Security Council agrees to take up this vote? Let’s do this tonight. The Syrian people can’t wait.

Here's a US Special Operations Command manual on modern Russian unconventional warfare, and how the style of warfare described by Gerasimov has been applied against Ukraine and other nations.

This is another good piece on Russian UW in Ukraine, including information operations:

This one also useful on UW: "Hybrid Warfare involves state/state-like actor use of all available diplomatic, informational, military, economic means to destabilize an adversary. Whole-of-government by nature... Russia places a particular premium on UW"

Here's a recent UK strategic defense review, which emphasizes Russian use of hybrid tactics and the need to counter them:

Just about caught up with the week's events. Thanks for the sterling work!

I actually feel a tad encouraged that turds like Gov. Scott and Rubio are now actually vocalising a willingness to discuss some limited movement on existing gun laws. I know they're desperately trying to play to all and save their own sorry backsides but I think it's yuge that we've got those despicable, spineless cockwombles individuals even saying the words out loud!

And thanks to whoever posted the link up thread to the article contrasting Mueller's and Trump's upbringings and lives. Mueller is a life long Republican and apparently as honest and fair as anyone could possibly hope to be in this challenging world, so he must be distraught to see what the Orange Waste of Space and his appalling family are doing to the USA.

What would be fantastic now is for Jared to get what he deserves. 🙏🏻

boatyardblues · 24/02/2018 10:55

Oh yes, the closer this hits home, the better.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 24/02/2018 10:56

The net really is drawing fast around them. With Gates as a cooperating witness, they have someone who was pursuing money with Manafort to pay back Oleg Depriaska until mysteriously they eased up on efforts when Manafort joined Trump's campaign, explicitly sending messages to Depripaska saying that they would grant private meetings about trump's progress, seemingly swapping exposure/coordination in return for alleviation of debts.

It is so satisfying that all of this information that was freely available in the press for months and months and was denied by GOP/Trump is being pinned down in black and white by Mueller. Let's hope Trump doesn't go nuclear.

I don't doubt that Farage will be caught up in this, given all his dodgy mates and the agendas he's pursued. I just haven't seen anything yet confirming Mueller has the goods (though I'm sure he has).

Key point is DOJ won’t tell the WH what the issues are. In a standard background check, they do. Jared’s issues are all about the Mueller probe, and it would be inappropriate for the WH to be briefed on those.
