People who choose not to drive

4 weeks until I drop and I have my baby shower this weekend. 3 people who I've invited (best friend, mil and nan) don't drive. This is out of choice, all have a licence but prefer to be 'driven' as cars are too expensive to run. All have text to ask what time I'm collecting them for my baby shower. AIBU in thinking if you choose not to drive it's not up to other people to pick up and drop off all the time? I don't know if I'm in the wrong because yes I invited them but surely they should find an alternate to me collecting them all as I have an 18 month old son as well as a baby shower to prepare not run around picking prople up?

Have a great time. You do know you’re enabling your mil and friend. But that’s perhaps something to work on once the baby is born. I think I’d want to throttle your mil for saying she should be chauffeur driven. Even the queen drives herself around some of the time.

I know I'm enabling it all, but I've promised myself that this is it. If it wasn't for the fact I don't really want any upset for the day then I wouldn't but from now on people can make their own way and if they don't then they'll have to miss out! Thank you everyone have a lovely weekend x

Probably a bit tricky with your Nan and Mil but certainly a conversation you should be able to have with a best friend. Mind you you’ll be so busy with a toddler and a new born that all you’ll be able to do is text LOL!! every time she asked for a lift somewhere and she’ll soon get the message. Grin

Have a lovely time. Brew Cake

"I've realised you all are quite right: cars are too expensive to run. I'm trying to change my bad habits by cutting back on my car use, so I'm afraid I won't be able to pick you up."

Pick your nan up. The other 2 should receive a reply saying, sorry I can't pick you up. They can then chose if they attend or not. Simple.

I don't understand why the only punishment people get for being nasty on Mumsnet seems to be having messages deleted? Can't they just be banned so they have to sit at home chuntering to themselves about how much they hate Loose Women and their sexless marriages?

YANBU. I have a licence but choose not to drive as I'm in London and there's no need.

I always shift for myself and use public transport. If I'm going somewhere without good public transport (semi rural, outside London) I might hope for a lift from the nearest train station, but that's about it and if the person I'm visiting couldn't do it I'd get a taxi
