how many transgender people do you know

Just that really. I've only met one at work a man who had the change to a woman.
From the number of threads recently it would appear that people are bumping into trans people everywhere they turn.

I know 4 lesbians who have short hair, wear men's clothes, shoes & easily pass as young slim men with very pretty feminine girlfriends. None of these women consider themselves male & no one thinks they are transgender but if a man wears dresses, make up, heels he is transgender, what's the difference? Why can't the man just be a man who wears women's clothes just like the lesbians are women who wear men's clothes?

SD1978 · 14/02/2018 22:23

None personally, one MTF through work (hospital orderly and she is lovely- works in palliative care and is a beautiful soul) many interactions through ED where I work.

SD1978 · 14/02/2018 22:24

Forgot- one child (7) FTM through sports club who transitioned at 4

petbear · 14/02/2018 22:26

I have known personally 4 trans folk, (1 female to male, and 3 male to female.)

Always find it very odd that people who transition past the age of 40 are ALWAYS male to female. ALWAYS. I have yet to see a female to male transition over 40.

I wonder why they do it? Especially as they rarely look that great.

Sorry if that offends anyone. I just mean I can always tell they were previously a man (when they transition from male to female over the age of 40.)

As I said, I wonder why so many men decide to transition at middle age or older? I recently saw a programme about it on ITV (transformation Street,) and they were mostly male to female (and over 40,) and quite honestly, I wasn't convinced by some of them.

The only one on this show that looked really convincing and really good, was a female to male trans, who was about 19-20 years old. The rest were middle aged and older (and male to female,) and as I said, they did not look great, and I was not convinced by a few of them.

@avocadosbeforemortgages

FWIW I can't be doing with all these trans threads on MN. It's full of rabid women frothing at the mouth about the issue, unable to engage in any proper debate, instead choosing to shout down those who disagree with them so that they can continue their little echochamber where it's acceptable to trample over the rights of vulnerable people.

Utter. Flaming. Nonsense. Hmm Just because some people don't 'get' transgender, or don't agree with people having sex changes, that doesn't mean they are shouty and 'frothing at the mouth,' and want to trample over their rights. And let's face it, some of them want too many rights (going into female only changing rooms whilst they are still biologically male for example.) It seems SOME of them have more 'rights' than actual female born females. And if they don't get their own way, they cry, and piss and moan, and claim bigotry and prejudice, until they DO get their own way! Hmm

Please tell me you don't mean a 4 year old transitioned to the opposite sex?
You're still a child at that age, just out of being a toddler. You don't know what you want at that age. Some want to be dinosaurs or tigers. Should they be allowed to identify as one?
This is utter madness if so, I'm sorry but it is.

AgainPlease · 14/02/2018 22:35

1, transitioned from male to female. She looks great!

petbear · 14/02/2018 22:36

Yeah I hope the 'transition at FOUR' is a typo too!

PaddlingShoes · 14/02/2018 22:37

2

SD1978 · 14/02/2018 22:38

@DreamyMcDreamy- obviously not physically- but was seen through a gender clinic from the age of 4- counselling is only offered at this age. Will be placed on hormone blockers at start of puberty. Is only referred to as M name, and M pronouns. Has CAHMs and psych involvement to support change.

DreamyMcDreamy · 14/02/2018 22:38

Yeah I hope the 'transition at FOUR' is a typo too!

If not a typo, it might make more people open their eyes and think hang on a minute and reach peak trans!
My God, it's insane.

PaddlingShoes · 14/02/2018 22:41

petbear

Wow.

HateIsNotGood · 14/02/2018 22:41

Know personally right now? None. But I've come across a few over the decades - most notably (for me) was the kind lady in Las Palmas in 1987 who paid for my taxi whilst protecting me from not just 1, but 2 stalkers.

Not important to me really, transgender or whatever, it's the really nice, genuine people that matter to me. I know a few - I'm sure there's more as most people are nice really, it's only a few that aren't.

SD1978 · 14/02/2018 22:41

No. No typo.

DreamyMcDreamy · 14/02/2018 22:43

@DreamyMcDreamy- obviously not physically- but was seen through a gender clinic from the age of 4- counselling is only offered at this age.

So from the age of 4, then, and not a typo. Sad
No,it won't be physically at that age, but the mental damage that can so easily be done at that age by going along with it if they tell you they want to be a boy is not to be underestimated!
Christ, I liked all things boy at the age of 4. Didn't do dolls, hated pink, wanted to play boys games/climb trees/get muddy.
Girl stuff? No thanks.
Bloody hell, if I was a 4 year old now it's pretty terrifying that I'd be pandered to and promised to put on blockers to stop my puberty!
I'm married, two kids, very much am a woman, and comfortable with it.

SD1978 · 14/02/2018 22:48

It was a bit more than just liking boy stuff- he tried to cut out his vagina at the age of three and make it into a willy as he hated seeing that it wasn’t the same as dad’s- requires hospital treatment for the wounds. That’s why they were referred

SimonBridges · 14/02/2018 22:58

The ‘you don’t know any trans people so why do you care about trans issues’ feel of the op is false.

I don’t know anyone who has undergone FGM, but I care about it and know it to be wrong.
I don’t know anyone who has had a forced marriage, but I care about it and know it to be wrong.
I don’t know anyone who has been sacked for being pregnant, but I care about it and know it to be wrong.
I don’t know any women in prison who have been forced to share a cell with a person with a penis, but I care about it and believe it to be wrong.
I don’t know anyone who has requested a women to do their smear only to have a trans woman turn up, but I care about that.
I don’t know anyone who has been abused in the street for being trans, but I care about that.

That is dreadful.
However I knew a black girl who was adopted by a white family and grew up in a very white area. She took a bath in bleach to try and make herself white. No one suggested she was white and gave her skin lightning tablets.

ButchyRestingFace · 14/02/2018 23:02

Exactly, how would that be any different?

Loveache · 14/02/2018 23:09

Two personally. Older M-F in university who was fabulous and it just wasn't a big deal. Young F-M who sadly comitted suicide because of the whole thing.

A vague friend's husband came out as trans at 45 after a nervous breakdown. She supported him. And there's a local F-M who's as scary mad as can be in the perverted way.

IfNot · 14/02/2018 23:10

It's not different. Rather than reassure a tiny child that she is perfect just as she is, grown adults decide to collude in her ultimate mental and physical disfigurement. What a world.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 14/02/2018 23:18

It's full of rabid women

How do you know?

Its deffo not full of women but there are a lot

Not rabid obviously...
