how many transgender people do you know

Just that really. I've only met one at work a man who had the change to a woman.
From the number of threads recently it would appear that people are bumping into trans people everywhere they turn.

2, one MtF, The other FtM. Knew one before their transition and she’s so much happier and healthier now.

Fekko · 14/02/2018 20:24

He’s only 7! My sister did the same thing.

PositivelyPERF · 14/02/2018 20:24

ClemDanfango children usually grow out of that, so I wouldn’t encourage the canto you calling him she.

YTho · 14/02/2018 20:25
One m to f, two f to m. M to f is already in his 60s, f to m are 30s and 20s.
mercurymaze · 14/02/2018 20:26

seen a couple of blokes dressed in skirts with lippie on , i don't know what they are meant to be

Mayday01 · 14/02/2018 20:27

PostivelyPerf-
It's a terrifying thought. And one of the reasons I don't support Self Id.

6 years old? If my 6 year old ds told me he was a girl I'd point to his bits and explain why he's not a girl, I wouldn't go along with it, so cruel. Little white lies about Santa and tooth fairies and "yes you're a doggie" yes but.......wow.

6 years old. Man, poor kid :(

DreamyMcDreamy · 14/02/2018 20:30

So if you say you're a girl at the age of 7 and put dresses on, or a girl who has short hair, refuses to wear "girly clothes" and says they're a boy, that means they're trans?!
No. Sad It means that they are SEVEN YEARS OLD and children have phases of doing that.
I hated everything pink, girls toys, etc when I was 7. Probably would have been " I like being like a boy" ie tomboy at that age. I grew out of it. Pretty bloody scary that nowadays you'd probably be labelled as transgender and encouraged when it could quite easily be just a phase!

Namethecat · 14/02/2018 20:30

My friends ex h is now female and also a school pal is also now female.

londonrach · 14/02/2018 20:37

None. Mum thinks theres a m to f at her local charity shop (had this recent conversation)

littlebillie · 14/02/2018 20:39

That was me emulating my brother and his friends now mother of 2 and happily married it's pretty damming that kids can't play and be pirates etc . It's more subversive now

ImAPeppermintNightmare · 14/02/2018 20:41

Plenty. I don't know an actual number but probably more than 10? I've had a relationship with a man who confessed to me he was MTT during the relationship although as far as I know he never went public with this.

I support each of them as individuals and hope they can present in whatever way makes them most comfortable and live a life free from prejudice. I am also gender critical and deeply opposed to self id and the GRA.

Lovemusic33 · 14/02/2018 20:41

At the age of 7 I wanted to be a boy, I got my brother to chop my hair off, wore boys clothes (brothers hand me downs), climbed trees, played in mud and loved playing with cars and star wars toys. Didn’t mean I wanted to be trans. I’m still not very feminine, never wear make up, still like cars (but real ones) and I rarely wear a dress but I’m proud to be a female. When I was a child it was just called being a tom boy.

drspouse · 14/02/2018 20:41

I have hairy legs and armpits in winter but not in summer. Twice yearly transition?

witchofzog · 14/02/2018 20:42

3 male to female. One is family, one a friend of the family and the other I used to work with. All of these women are now in their 50's and 60's. Only one had a positive experience from friends/ family and that one was not my family member (fuck you family members sisters and husbands who all decided to ostracise her because she should have lived a lie rather than lived the life she always wanted to. Thanks to you your very elderly parents will not go to their graves in peace because they worry constantly about what will happen to their child who became a woman later in life)

Lovesagin · 14/02/2018 20:45

At 6 my ds wanted to be a chocolate biscuit, a digestive iirc, I didn't dunk him in my tea though.

usernameisnotavailable · 14/02/2018 20:47

...

Wowzel · 14/02/2018 20:48

2 FTM
4 MTF

I accept their rights to be who they want to be, I use the correct pronouns etc.... but I don't believe they are really the other gender.

RaininSummer · 14/02/2018 20:54

1 personally M to F. Seem to be loads of visible TIMs in my area though. My friend is not a happy person at all but maybe was even unhappier previously.

Xulishesthepilot · 14/02/2018 20:55

I've never thought of myself as a feminist before and actively stayed away from the feminist boards but this all has me

Well then honestly you're not a feminist, are you. But enjoy "being on the side of women" just this once. Nothing like going into battle on the back of a bandwagon.

I know two, one a long term patient (I'm an optometrist), who transitioned surgically at 18 M-F and then changed his/her mind 20 years later and just became a very camp gay man. One of the reasons I am totally against surgical sex changes for young people.

Second is a girl in girlguiding who is considering transitioning, but again she is very young and I don't think you really find out who you are until you're much older. I think her mother is very against her being gay and that is swaying her decision.

Fekko · 14/02/2018 20:59

Surgically? Changed mind??

m0therofdragons · 14/02/2018 21:00

One m to f.

Very complex and I'm still angry at what her wife and dc went through re timing being totally shit and her pure selfishness.
