AIBU to think Boris Johnson's latest initiative is just another exercise in words that mean nothing? What does stuff like 'hope not fear' actually mean?

I want to write to my MP (again) but I'm running out of ways to ask him to explain what the actual fuck any of it means. He just bats me back and says to read Hansard and that the PM is completely clear but I can't make head nor tail of what their plans are and how they then plan to get the EU to agree to them.

I genuinely now want to be reconciled (whatever that means) but AIBU to think there can't be any reconciliation because no-one will say anything other than what they want to happen with no explanation of what will happen in the real world.

I fucking hate this, the whole mess of it and the fact it's now being led by bloody hardline Tories who think repeating that we need 'get over it' is some kind of response to valid concerns. Get over what? What does any of it mean.

What’s BINO?

SilverySurfer · 14/02/2018 13:30

Of course, since I voted to Leave.

TrickyD
Not reconciled, but cheered up to read that the areas of the country with most Brexit voters are predicted to suffer most economically from Brexit. Serve the stupid bastards right.

Wow, you're lovely aren't you. Hmm On behalf of all those areas, I really hope that it hits you where it hurts.

Not a nice feeling to have someone wish you bad things is it?

Ylvamoon · 14/02/2018 13:30

I think this whole Brexit is a total f* up. Nobody has actually stepped up to the mark and done anything meaningful other than bowing to the EU demands for a decision (Irish border).
I think they are all to scared to put their heads on the line... meanwhile the country descends into (political) caos. And heads will roll anyway.
My consolation is, that life goes on and somehow we will survive... we might even thrive in 10-15year's time. I just feel sorry for my kids (early teens) they will be an other lost generation.

LittleFeileFooFoo · 14/02/2018 13:36

Of course you can grow salad in winter in the UK, haven't you heard of greenhouses? Many greens grow in the cold!

pointythings · 14/02/2018 13:36

As an EU citizen whose children have had to deal with xenophobic abuse in the wake of the vote - w live in a very Leave and Tory area - I would only be happy with BINO (Brexit In Name Only).

And whilst I do not wish ill on those Brexit voters who live in the areas that will be hardest hit by a no deal Brexit, I don't have much sympathy for them either. People need to stop reading the gutter press and realise that the vast, vast majority of what they are unhappy with is down to domestic policy choices and nothing to do with the EU.

TrickyD · 14/02/2018 13:37

Silverysurfer

I may not be lovely but at least I am not stupid.

I do not give a toss about your bad wishes.

Hoppinggreen · 14/02/2018 13:37

Nothing, although DH just renewing his German passport has made me feel a bit better about it

Helmetbymidnight · 14/02/2018 13:40

Don't worry, the 49% are used to it now.

I don't mind leave voters, many of them deep-down know they fucked up, its the brexitteers, I can't stand. They're just deluded.

LaurieMarlow · 14/02/2018 13:40

Cameron is a cunt but he's not a brexiteering cunt. Even he is not that thick.

His laziness and arrogance started this in the first place. This entire mess comes down to him. And he's not getting nearly enough shit for it if you ask me.

BonnieF · 14/02/2018 13:40

No.

I’m a strong remainer who works in a global industry, has worked in many different countries and still regards herself as European. Fortunately, I am entitled to an Irish passport, for which I will apply if necessary.

While I'd certainly like to see him getting more shit instead of leading his 'cushty life', it's the brexitteers to blame, 100%.

LakieLady · 14/02/2018 13:42

Cameron is a cunt but he's not a brexiteering cunt

But he is the cunt that got us into this cunting mess by calling a referendum to try and neutralise Farage and all the other swivel-eyed loons.

He is the man who put his party above his country, and for that no amount of opprobrium is too great.

specialsubject · 14/02/2018 13:42

Ah yes, greenhouses. Now do remind me what heats them?????

Stuff the planet, eh.

BonnieF · 14/02/2018 13:44

Agree about Cameron, and the equally culpable Osborne. They were completely reckless with the country’s future because they never considered the possibility that they might actually lose.

LakieLady · 14/02/2018 13:47

Wow, you're lovely aren't you. hmm On behalf of all those areas, I really hope that it hits you where it hurts.

Wow, Silvery, big of you to expect everyone to bear the fallout of the stupid decisions made by you and your ilk.

I'm going to get a badge made that says "Don't blame me, I voted Remain".

honeysucklejasmine · 14/02/2018 13:49

No, nothing. The so called "Dream Team" FOTTFSOFATFOSM would be a start, but even then...

LaurieMarlow · 14/02/2018 13:53

and the equally culpable Osborne.

Not sure if this is true, but I heard that osbourne was very against the idea and tried to change Cameron's mind.

For that reason, I give him a bit more slack. Never thought I'd stand up for that fucker, but there you do.

As a minor issue, if people really are so ignorant that they don't realise that you can't grow salad crops in the UK in winter, there really is no hope.

You absolutely can. You can grow salad crops all year round under glass. You can use the salad crops as a filter for indoor freash water fish farms, so you get 2 crops - fish and salad.
All organically grown.

It just takes a bit of lateral thinking to realise we could be doing so much more, if we just applied a bit of brain power.

Efferlunt · 14/02/2018 14:03

Cameron is definitely not getting enough of the blame. He put party before country which I think is almost treasonous. He gambled with things that were not his to loose.

scottishdiem · 14/02/2018 14:04

The problem is not just remain voters being reconciled to a brexit, the leavers all have different versions of brexit. Very soon they are going to have to try and reconcile themselves to whatever option is chosen. Very few people are going to get what they want out of Brexit.

Cattenberg · 14/02/2018 14:12

Associate EU citizenship (or a passport from another EU country), for myself and my descendants, would give me peace of mind.

I still think Brexit is a stupid idea, with many adverse consequences that most Leave voters didn't even think of, but I could grin and bear it if I knew my family weren't going to lose the opportunities I had as a youngster.

Palermonese · 14/02/2018 14:17

Not really sure I can reconcile myself to something which has terrified my DF (85 and blind) that he won't be buried next to my DM who passed last year, because he's not a UK citizen, but will be picked up and dumped back to where he came from. Or something which has seen my own DS told to "go back home" when people hear his name.

What's that ? Blue passports ? Why didn't you say ? Bring it on.

MimpiDreams · 14/02/2018 14:22

Nothing could reconcile me to Brexit. The outright nastiness of it has already led to a complete breakdown of my family relationships. I've had no contact with my parents or any of my siblings since the referendum. I just thank my lucky stars that I'm already off the sinking ship.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/02/2018 14:28

No. The fact that we are, 18 months later, still expected to believe the man behind the £350 mil for the NHS slogan should set alarm bells ringing all by itself.
