No less than 7 on my active threads?? Is it just me who in real life hasn't encountered any transgender people?? And coming from the professional background that I'm in, I see a pretty varied side of life Confused

Am I missing out on something here??

The existence of this thread defies belief.

I can only assume that the people who 'can't understand all the fuss about trans issues' simply can't read.

This stuff is happening NOW. Men are entering women's sports competitions NOW. People are losing their livelihoods because they state scientific facts NOW.

How is it 'over-reacting' or 'screeching' to state these facts?

I mean, fair enough if you don't give a shit about women's rights - but just come out and say it, hey?

People who deny facts are very, very dangerous (or thick/illiterate).

SuburbanRhonda · 14/02/2018 22:45

The club backed the trans woman and told the cis woman to make alternative arrangements.

Most likely because the adverse publicity that would have ensued had transactivists got hold of the story just wouldn’t have been worth it from a business point of view.

I’m ignoring your use of both “cis” and “transphobic” btw.

What's that GoldenBowl? Are you incinerating that people who disagree with you are thick?

That's so unlike you!

Huskylover1 · 14/02/2018 22:47

I am SO perturbed by trans women entering female sports, that I could almost weep. And I don't even like sport. It's just so fucking unfair.

Like Fallon Fox, the trans female Boxer, who is almost killing her opponents and injuring some of them so badly, that they have to retire.

I was talking about this with my husband over dinner, and he hit the nail on the head....quite simply, this madness will end when a woman is killed in sport by a trans woman.

Only then, will the authorities sit up and realise what an absolute fuck up they have made, by allowing born males to compete against females, simply because they had tit implants and maybe inverted their penis.

And that day is coming....

CoolCarrie · 14/02/2018 22:53

Well said Poffley

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 14/02/2018 22:59

uite simply, this madness will end when a woman is killed in sport by a trans woman

I dont even think that it will end under these circumstances

OvaHere · 14/02/2018 23:03

I dont even think that it will end under these circumstances

Neither do I. If victims of sexual assault, some as young as 12 at the time, can be dragged on social media for misgendering their attacker (who has a penis) then I think there would be more outrage levelled towards people pointing out this happened because of a male bodied person than the fact a woman was dead.

Samantha77hat · 14/02/2018 23:05

I’ve often wondered why female athletes don’t simply refuse to participate in any event that a trans woman turns up for, like how there was an unwritten rule that the female contestants on USA Weakest Link always used to gang up on the men and vote them off first

It wouldn’t take long for it to cause a furore. I can hardly imagine they are thrilled about it.

One thing that I find particularly disappointing is that feminists helped get this issue the traction it is now enjoying

Datun · 14/02/2018 23:06

To be fair, we were given notice. You can't say we weren't warned.

What's with all these transgender threads?!

I keep hearing people say this

But i still don't understand what it means

DreamyMcDreamy · 14/02/2018 23:17

Datun, that's chilling reading. Is that a real tweet? Just looked her up on Twitter, all nice as pie and that ^ is horrendous and if genuine needs putting about as ughhhh

Samantha77hat · 14/02/2018 23:22

There have been prominent feminists going back to the mid 70’s supporting transgender, Dworkin was one. For context Dworkin widely propagated the position that pornography is rape so she has good feminist credentials. And self determination was promoted by Judith Butler more recently who is one of the new style third wave crew. I find it disappointing that they have supported an agenda that I find harmful to females.

DrawingLife · 14/02/2018 23:25

Umm. I think posting and mocking pics is actually not great. I thought the debate was outstanding. Shame to let it descend into a transphobic pile-up?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 14/02/2018 23:26

I think a lot of people support transgender people

I just dont think that back in the day there was an agenda

OvaHere · 14/02/2018 23:31

Umm. I think posting and mocking pics is actually not great.

If you are talking about Danielle Muscato I wouldn't waste too much sympathy. Danielle would have none for you.

DrawingLife · 14/02/2018 23:32

Samantha the Woman's March movement in the US has put about categorically that "trans women are women". The website "Daily Feminism" (which may be an imposter site?) has a whole page explaining away our shared experience as born women.

Hard to think that without feminist voices this agenda would have made it anywhere near to the prominence it has.

Samantha77hat · 14/02/2018 23:40

It’s turkeys welcoming Xmas, completely mad

But even here on mumsnet it’s only been relatively recently as far as I’m aware that the opposition has started to gather pace, too little too late however, like protesting about a property development in your area that has already been built

further to this, today’s liberal ‘right on’ brigade are actually also brainlessly facilitating what is obviously a massive erosion of female achievement, as no doubt all the sporting records will be broken by transwomen, equality advancement will regress and in some cases basic safety is put at risk

DrawingLife · 14/02/2018 23:41

Sorry, posted too soon.

I think the reason is that if you don't think about it too deeply the concept seems only fair, and most of us feel that as an oppressed minority trans people deserve to have more protection. The argument against the state regulating and medicalising your body is one that is naturally close to women's heart (no wonder that in Ireland trans ppl and feminists work closely together).

This was my broad opinion until I realised what the implications are for women. It's not just about a few male bodies in female toilets. If we let the concept of womanhood become a purely philosophical one and forget the physical, biological reasons behind historic oppression and why we are still not treated equally, then women's rights become untenable.

DarthNigel · 14/02/2018 23:45

Pickle-but you can say to the bar staff-'I'm worried that this man is following me because he means me harm' in the same way you can say 'I'm worried that this woman is following me because she means me harm'...
Plus I think the Reality of it in many situations would be that it would be self policing to a degree. In your average night club an obvious man walking into a crowed women's toilet and proclaiming they could do so because they were a woman would be laughed out of there. In a deserted toilet you'd be in grave danger anyway if a sexual predator had in mind to attack you. The fact that it's a woman's toilet wouldn't put him off.
I get the principle of the objection to it for the reasons you've stated-I do. But I think the reality of it is/would be different and as I said up thread I just don't think it's the most dangerous thing affecting us societally or even as women at the moment.
Thanks for giving me stuff to think about however-I will continue to do so-and it's good to talk about it wether we agree or not.

DailyWTFMoments · 14/02/2018 23:45

Sexual predators are impulsive, and opportunistic. I just don't fully believe that self ID alone will increase the existing numbers of sexual predators in the general populace.

darth - no, it won't increase the numbers, it will reduce the risk to predators.

There are five basic Crime Prevention principles - and one of those is to increase the "risk" of offending.

At the moment, the risk to potential offenders is increased if they choose to target victims in sex segregated spaces. Their presence is unusual enough in those spaces to be noted and challenged. Yes, it's based on appearance, and so is not always accurate, but it is a crime prevention method designed to reduce the number of offences.

Removing the segregation reduces the likelihood of offenders of being considered "out of place" and therefore reduces the risk of their being challenged.

DreamyMcDreamy

Yes. Shon Faye, a prominent transactivist. Talks on the TV.

Also Ada Wells, transwoman. Erstwhile head of the LGBT soc at Edinburgh uni.

Also Lily Madigan. A 19 year old male currently holding the post of Labour Party Woman's officer. (Cis means not trans), whose remit is to attract more women to the Labour Party. (But set up a secret fb group to get women who disagreed with him that 'biology is irrelevant' ousted from the party).
