shotsfired I’m happy to discuss it.
The name of these drugs is gnrh analogs and they’re used to treat endometriosis, various types of cancer and very early puberty in children - and of course they’re now being used as “puberty blockers”, and people are told they are safe and completely reversible. My experience says otherwise.
I started on this drug 11 years ago for endometriosis, I was on it from 25-27, so long since gone through puberty. It essentially causes a temporary menopause so I had the usual hot flushes etc which were unpleasant but went away when I stopped the drug. That was the least of my trouble.
I permanently lost Hair and breast tissue - these didn’t return. Around a year in I experienced what they term loss of libido but which is actually a complete aversion to any physical contact, or even the thought of sex. I’d hoped that this would go away when I stopped the drug but it continued for a further five years and returns any time my hormone levels change. My bones have thinned and this is not reversible.
Whilst on the drug I began experiencing debilitating fatigue, muscle and joint pain. This was diagnosed as ME and fibromyalgia. I had to stop working a few years after coming off it as I am so unwell. After a lot of research I believe this is actually a thyroid issue related to a problem with the pituitary gland, on which this drug works, but there’s so little research into this type of drug and resulting issues that no one wants to hear it.
I wish I’d never agreed to it now, and the thought of giving it to children is beyond belief. There’s talk of it being necessary because otherwise there’s a risk of suicide - believe me, the mental health repercussions of having no sex drive, shrivelled genitalia, longterm debilitating illness which doctors don’t give a shit about, being unable to work, losing your hair and having the bones of a pensioner at 30 aren’t great either. But nobody wants to hear it.
