You can get a divorce
You can get an abortion
And yet we are still subjected to judgment for doing so.
You can use birth control
Yes we can, and we are often forced to use hormonal birth control because the men we sleep with either refuse to use condoms or don't want to get the snip, but also get sulky when they're denied sex.
You can say no to sex
And yet we still get raped. Why is that?
You can choose whether or not to get married
And yet forced marriage is still commonplace. Why is that?
You can enter nontraditional fields of study or career
And yet we are still discriminated within them.
You can walk alone in public
And yet we still often get harassed when doing so.
You can wear pants; you don’t have to follow a dress code
And yet we do. Why do you think that is?
You can choose whether to wear makeup
And yet pretty much all make up is marketed towards women.
You can wear provocative clothing if you want
We can, but if we do and we receive unwanted male attention, then that's our fault.
You can choose whether or not to have children
We can, but our choices are still subjected to rigorous scrutiny one way or the other.
Helped get laws against marital rape
And yet men still rape their wives.
Helped get laws against stalking
And yet women are still stalked.
Helped get laws against child molestation
And yet children are still molested.
Helped get laws against sexual harassment
And yet women still get sexually harassed as a matter of course.
Helped get laws against spousal abuse
And yet four women a week are murdered by a male partner or former partner.
Continued to fight for equal pay for equal work
And yet we still haven't got it.
