Kids names...

To wonder why people care so much about other people's lives...?

My kids have unusual names and I get constant remarks and it has begun to piss me off my standard reply now is It's not of anyone else's business and it's so rude.

Perhaps we should all care more about important issues and less about other people's names!

because she is the only one in her company and its helped her do well sure she's pleased to know it wasn't talent or intelligence, just an unusual name

FlipOff · 12/02/2018 15:56

We liked Elizabella but not Elizabeth...
oh and I have a cousin who called her oldest son Jaxon and people always spell that wrong.

If Elizabella is the name you chose, OP. that isn’t an regular name with an unusual spelling; it’s a combination of the names Eliza and Bella.

Are you wanting people to say it is Elle-is-a-bella or E-lie-za-bella?

ToddlerIs2 · 12/02/2018 16:01

Elizabella isn't a usual name with an unusual spelling OP. Its a cut and paste of two. Which is fine, but I get why people might be Hmm
However I was raised with manners so would simply say oh that's different or cute or suits her etc.

I had people telling me I would be to blame when my son got bullied because of his name! People can be arses

FlipOff · 12/02/2018 16:22

Toddleris2 - yes that's my point! I don't care if people hate the name but have some manners and mind your own business.

It's pronounced; Elle Izz A Bella

If you make up a name of course you will get comments!

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 12/02/2018 16:56

This is as funny as fuck! Let me guess, other people put "Jackson"?

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 12/02/2018 16:56

That's not a different spelling of an established name is it? It's two names combined which I imagine does get some brows raised.

How old is DD? Does she understand yet her name is unusual?

lookingforthecorkscrew · 12/02/2018 16:59

You made up a name and admit you wanted to name your child something 'unusual' and yet you don't like people commenting on it? Hmmmmm...

ToddlerIs2 · 12/02/2018 17:00

Once its done its done though. StRing at you and asking why you would do that to your child is just rude

Snowonsnow · 12/02/2018 17:02

I think made up names are best for pets and dolls.

FlipOff · 12/02/2018 17:06

spiteful why is that funny?

OP posts:
FlipOff · 12/02/2018 17:07

She's 3. It's not unusual for her, it's just her name, some kids at Nursery have a lot weirder names.

Having an "odd" surname has been a general boost in life. It's a great ice-breaker at interviews, and being asked a question you can answer (with as much eloquence as you want) isn't a bad start.

First job I ever got (my sandwich year at Uni) my boss commented I was the only candidate all the panel remembered, because of a joke about my name. (Which isn't my username Grin).

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/02/2018 17:15

FlipOff I imagine it’s hilarious because Jaxon isn’t a name (just another ~creative~ spelling), whereas Jackson is.

some kids at Nursery have a lot weirder names.

Like what?

SilverySurfer · 12/02/2018 17:16

Elizabella isn't a different spelling of an existing name, it's two names stuck together.

Those who insist on a 'yoonique' spelling of an existing name - like Jaxon instead of Jackson run the risk of being thought too stupid to know how to spell.

NiteFlights · 12/02/2018 17:16

I think Elizabella is a sweet name, OP, and not hard to spell either. I wouldn't be judgy about that name, I'm surprised people are rude about it. Perhaps they just need to check it's not Isabella?

I must admit I think Jason is an awful name, but I'd never say so in a real life situation! We can all give our opinions on here but IRL it's rude to comment negatively on someone's name, surely?

lookingforthecorkscrew · 12/02/2018 17:17

My DS has a common name. It suits him and it's lovely. Why call him something made up just for the sake of being different?

NiteFlights · 12/02/2018 17:17

Jaxon! Not Jason. Stupid autocorrect!

GrateItUp · 12/02/2018 17:21

If I saw it written down I would assume it was pm Ee-Lize-A-Bella.

She's in for a lifetime of correcting people.

DGRossetti · 12/02/2018 17:21

Jaxon

as in "Jackson" ? Like Hendricks or Hendrix ?

DGRossetti · 12/02/2018 17:22

She's in for a lifetime of correcting people.

I hope she's sociable Grin ...

WonderLime · 12/02/2018 17:24

The interesting thing about 'Jaxon' is that I've already come across 2 in DS playgroup - it seems to be on of those misspellings that's becoming commonplace.

DGRossetti · 12/02/2018 17:27

misspellings

Mis ??? Given names are excluded from the dictionary, who gets to call right or wrong ?

PatheticNamechange · 12/02/2018 17:28

I would also pronounce it ell-eye-za bella.
