Romeo? 🤔

(TBH, Apple is just as bad...)

But, seriously, celebrity names are stupid!

Love some of the crazy baby names such as Wawrick, Ocean, Radley, Miracle and Haarmony...just lovely.

Another thread was talking about a child called Hannibal...not good!

My Canadian cousin has Duncan Danger and Pandora Wonder. I love the eccentricity.
My ex-bf was Australian and called Kit Bags McPhee and his brother is Tom Bombadeel McPhee ( hippy, Tolkien loving, very young parents).

Pocahontas McGuire is alive and kicking in Paisley, just outside Glasgow. My sister was in the police and actually met her as a baby, so it's not a myth. No idea if she had a brother Versace, but the rumour is she changed the name at 16.

My own 3 DS have very Scottish names, inc surname, so seem unusual outside Scotland but not so much here. I've heard of a few of each name but not actually in their school. I like the fact that they're a bit different but still traditional.

I’m a Cass and autocorrect always changes it to Crass. It doesn’t help it also changes my surname to Idiot (not the same word but a similar equivalent). So I sometimes inadvertently sign off as Crass Idiot or get letters addressed to me as such. Grin

@squarecorners My name is Rebecca and I love it, my Mother named me after her favourite book.

I don't think it was about "originality" it's about what suited me.

Christ, this post makes me hate people even more than I already do

My midwife colleague delivered a La-A, pronounced Ladasha. We honestly thought the registrar would refuse it but unfortunately not

No, she didn't, and I'd advise you to stop repeating that racist urban myth.

@taytothough Like I said, my name is one of those names and I thoroughly dislike it. You might love your name, some people might love being called tallulah, some people will think it's shit. That's life, sweetheart.

@squarecorners Please refrain from calling me "sweetheart" when you are going to use it to be smarmy. Really not arsed with that kind of chat. Change your name if you hate it

Youngest son started talking about his new friend Horace. Horace? Are you sure? That's a bit unusual these days... But he swore his friend was called Horace. So every time he came to the house I called him Horace. Hi Horace! How are you, Horace? Would you like a snack, Horace?

One day he took a jotter out of his school bag and there on the front...Harris! Thanks a lot, son!

@Lady T
Mingus could have been named after Charles Mingus, a renowned jazz bass player. I haven't heard of anybody else called Mingus, but there may be some out there.

Well, DD2 went to school with a girl called Beetroot.
She had a taster day and told us all about the lovely girl, who was her assigned ‘buddy’ , and was definitely going to be her best friend when she joined the school the following term. We tried to find out if in fact she might have misheard. But my DD2 can and will argue black is white, and persuade any unbeliever with the strength of her conviction. This was around the time of Gwynnies Apple, so, you know, we were prepared to non-judgementally believe. Fast forward a few months when she’d started and had her first party invite. Turns out she’s called Beatrice after all. Bloody DD2 grrrrr.

I like Romeo, but I think it probably needs to go with an Italian surname. I think my lovely DS could probably have carried off the name Romeo or even Adonis (not that he would have thanked me) but due to his heritage I had to go for a rather safe choice that worked in English and Russian. Looking at the Semyon/semen confusion upthread, that was probably for the best!

DD's dad wanted her to be called a "jazz" name like Mingus or Hoagy. (Like, nobody would ever think 'minger' or 'bogey'? But he wasn't British.) She has a normal name thank god, but the other DCs still call her Hoagy on occasion to wind her up!
